Overall it was a great experience with Hans and Susanne. They responded to emails quickly, were very flexible and attentive despite not being on premises. The house was exactly as described and for me, it was plenty close to the beach as I enjoyed the 5 minute stroll. The walk is easy with the exception of a small hill going up to the house. If you can handle 5 flights of stairs back home, you can handle the hill. I was here during early July and it was quite warm. The overhead fan was a bit weak, but after an email asking for a solution their caretaker had a brand new at the door after returning from dinner in town. I needed Internet to do some studies and they have it here too. The ISP was pretty stable and fast enough to stream videos or a movie if you want. They were flexible and allowed me to stay an extra day. The house is beautiful and VERY well taken care of by the caretaker and a gardener who shows up every couple of days. The cleaning lady came once and because it was just me and I was on my own I felt it was necessary. If I come back to Sayulita, I will stay here if it is available.
Hans and Susanne have a lovely house on top of a hill on the North side (non-touristy) side of the bridge in Sayulita. The house has many little nooks and spaces, with truly impressive views of the town. Their lounging room on the second floor was breezy and wonderful. An excellent place to drink, eat snacks and watch the sunset. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could ever need to prepare food. Hans and Susanne were friendly, inviting and great about sharing their space with their guests. As for our private room, our hosts supplied us with plenty of towels and blankets. Personally I found the bed a little hard, but my partner thought it was fine. While there was some fairly disruptive palm tree maintenance and heavy cleaning during our 7 day stay, the only truly upsetting thing was that an envelope of money from the locked safe inside our room went missing on the second to last day of our trip.
Clean, comfortable, quiet, and safe room in a very pretty setting. Ten minute walk to beach and also 10 minutes to restaurants, cafes etc. of town yet far enough to be quiet at night. I was fortunate to be there at same time as Hans & Susanne who were very friendly, helpful, informative and gracious hosts. No hesitation in recommending these hosts for a great stay in Sayulita.
We stayed at Casa Mar y Montana for a week. We were there on our own so had full use of the kitchen. The location is great with gorgeous views of Sayulita and a short walk into town and to the beach. The garden is really beautiful with lots of nice plants and flowers to admire and birds visiting. There are shops and restaurants near the house so it was easy to get groceries or eat something when we didn't want to cook. The fan in the bedroom was a bit weak and so we had a couple of fairly hot nights trying to get to sleep. The other thing worth mentioning is that the walk up to the house is quite steep (in common with many places in Sayulita) and not very well lit so shoes that you can walk in and a torch are essentials!
Hans and Susanne are not on site but we had no problems with getting in touch with them when we needed too and their manager was very helpful. We found our staying very relaxing and enjoyable. Sayulita is a lovely place to visit for a holiday and I hope we can make it back there one day!
My boyfriend and I stayed in Casa Mar y Montana for one month this spring. We really felt at home here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable base in Sayulita. The location is great, even if it is a little ways to the center of town. The walk to the beach is short, and there are shops and restaurants starting right at the bottom of the hill, so you definitely don't feel like you're far away from the action. In fact, one of our favorite places to eat was Purillo's, and I don't think we ever would have gone there if we weren't staying on that side of town!
The room itself was pretty basic, but comfortable and clean and airy - a great place to enjoy the outdoor living of Mexico! One thing to mention is that the ceiling fan in the room was not very powerful. We had a bit of a breeze most nights, so it was OK, but it might get pretty hot in there in the middle of the summer.
The shared kitchen situation worked out just fine, and we used the kitchen a lot. It might depend on who is staying in the other unit, but while we were there, a long-term renter was living next door, so it was really fun to get to know her and get some tips on the house and life in Sayulita.
The hosts aren't on site in Sayulita, but they are responsive and seem to do a good job managing the property from abroad. We had one minor incident where ants decided to march into the kitchen for whatever reason. I emailed the hosts and the property manager and they dealt with the situation immediately. So we felt well taken care of there.
All-in-all, we had a wonderful time. This is a great place to call home while you're enjoying the town and beach of Sayulita!
