El Castillo village is very unique place even by Costa Rica standards. It offers delicious mountain spring water and successfully caters to tourists on both accommodation and activities. Yet as a hidden gem, and largely thanks to its surroundings, it manages not to be the beaten path, getting you the experience of an uncrowded destination.
El Castillo area, consisting of three loosely separate settlements and its adjacent farms, is considered a land lock, nested in between the Lake Arenal and the forests of the government protected mountains of the continental divide. The massive volcano Arenal completes the lock as it is necessary to drive around it to get here.
This El Castillo vacation rental property is located in the settlement found directly on the main road (the amount of traffic is ridiculously low) known by locals as El Fosforo, consisting of handful of houses.
This house is recommended for large families or groups of up to ten people. It has very spacy living/dining room and the feel of perfect summer house with large pool, patio and BBQ area and four bedrooms. For the rainy days there is a entertainment center with cable TV, wireless internet, and billiard table. There are both fans and AC units. Fully equipped kitchen, wash machine and dryer.
We recommend to come in 4x4 vehicle(s) if you do the driving.
I was born in Prague, left for NY at the age of 20, after two years moved to Key West, Florida, after year and a half moved to Costa Rica
where I acquired a farm to plant an agricultural system known as "food forest" or permaculture. Together with my wife Hannah and other two partners we opened up an artisan shop called La Gavilana Herbs & Art to create and to sell Hannah's art creations, my fermented hot sauces, our forest-adventure tours and to do property management/landscaping.
I come from a musician background and actively play accordion.
I like Natural Philosophy literature and the practice of conscious integration into the world through composting, plant growing, food fermenting, cooking and creating social ties.
The tour to Rancho Maximo Rustic B&B is operated from our shop in El Castillo where it starts. Maximo is a brother to a man with whose family I lived for 7 years, he is my uncle you could say.
I have several life motto I combine to "keep it together" though they at first may not look like to be of the same category:
"It is not your life it is Life itself."
"It is what it is, it is because it is."
"It is what you make it. Do what you can, with what you got, with where you are , with whom you are."
"Never criticize never find fault, never blame."
