Other Things to Note
We're happy to welcome you.
Clean appartement tussen station en centrum, vlotte afhandeling zonder live contact.
Perfect location halfway between train station and Aachen Cathedral, about 10-12 minutes either way. Clean and easy to get into with the codes Sarah gave me.
Thanks for your speedy response and eventual stay last minute in Aachen.
You may or may not get a place that looks the photograph. I did not. What I did get was a very clean and well organised little apartment.
Everything you need.
I was not very happy with many aspects of the apartment. I was given the wrong house number in a initial email (no. 24) . When I arrived and entered the code at the door that I received in a separate email, I believed it was the right address. I had to carry my very heavy suitcase 5 flights of stairs up since there was no elevator (a fact the owner forgot to mention to me!), only to find out that I could not get into any of the apartments. I tried calling the owner but without success. After much confusion and after calling a friend who had internet access , I was able to locate the apartment next door No. 26! I had to haul my heavy suitcase all the way back down and another 5 flights of stairs up for the second time. Apparently, the owner has several rentals in different buildings and forgot to mention the change of address in the information she had given me. The apartment itself was fine. However, the balcony door would not properly lock which left me slightly uneasy since there were fire escape stairs that went all the way to the ground floor from the balcony. What really frustrated me greatly was the lack of information and availability from the owner. There was only a small paper with some access codes for wifi but no real instructions on how to use the wifi. It shouldn't be this difficult. I travel a lot and have never had any difficulty connecting to wifi before. I could not get the wifi to work and continuously tried contacting the owner without any success. I eventually was able to speak to someone that clearly knew nothing and told me to call back the next day. Although, I heavily relied on internet access, I could not do anything that evening and tried calling back the next day. The person I spoke to the following day stated that they would try to fix the situation (including the balcony door) and call me back. I never received a call back and finally gave up since I did't want to completely ruin my short stay in Aachen by chasing down the owner. Even after I left, I never received as much as an apology email or call back. This was definitely one of my worst experiences staying in a rental. It's so unfortunate because the location is great and the stay there could have been great too, had it not been for the absolute carelessness and indifference of the owner.
Dear Jenny, I'm really sorry for the experience which you've made with the communication and WIFI. I went to the US for two weeks and hired someone to take care of all things, tried to explain everything. But as it turned out this didn't work out properly and I even didn't really knew what went wrong. I will definately handle that differnetly next time - or better said I won't rent out the apartment when not being there myself to make sure such things won't happen again.
Again I'm really sorry you didn't get proper instructions how to use the WIFI and didn't get quick enough help to take a look at the door.
I think the apartment itself is a nice place, located very well. I chose the one with a balcony for you, cause I thought that would be even nicer (that's why the housnumber had changed in your instruction which I've send via Email, didn't mean to cause any confusion as both houses are directly next to each other - it really was just meant-well.)
I hope you've still had an ejoyable stay in Aachen.
