Oakleaf Cottage is a large and cosy house, with an open fire, central heating and a warm welcome - waken up to gorgeous scenery all around the house.
It's only 5 mins drive to Westport where there are great cafés, restaurants and lively pubs serving Irish craic, Guinness and live music.

A drum Barbecue is outside - just bring your own charcoal, steaks and beer and create happy memories.

Oakleaf Cottage is a 5 min drive to the Best Place to Live in Ireland [The Irish Times Award]! Oakleaf Cottage is set in it's own garden overlooking beautiful Croagh Patrick and the Connemara mountains with lush scenic views. It's a quiet neighbourhood with adjacent houses nearby. The house is in the countryside without light pollution at night, so you get to see lots of stars!
Best to drive by hiring your own car and really getting to know the area, however, there is transport via train and buses to Westport, and local taxis are available to and from Westport town, the train and bus station to the house.
Other Things to Note
We provide fuel for the fire for your first nights stay, then you can purchase your own wood, turf or briquettes for the open fire inside [no coal please]. These are easily found in the local store and petrol station along with charcoal for the outside drum barbecue for summer months.
Oakleaf Cottage Terms:
Strictly non smoking inside the house.
If you do smoke inside the house, the security deposit is non-refundable.
There are reclaimed pitch pine floors throughout the house. These will damage easily with high/stiletto heels. Therefore we ask only flat shoes or indoor shoes/slippers are used when in the house, and please do not wear high heels inside.
Please leave the property in the exact same way as you found it - clean and tidy. Please ensure the oven, hob and fridges are cleaned and emptied of all food and spills on your departure. All dishes must be cleaned, dried and put away on your departure. Please ensure the Barbeque is clean and the area around it is tidy and left in a state you would like to find it. Do ensure only Barbeque utensils are washed and returned to the kitchen drawers when finished using. Do dispose of any cold charcoal ash in the bins provided. Failure to do so will result in an additional charge for extra cleaning.
Please place all rubbish in the wheelie bins provided at the bottom of the laneway. One is for landfill rubbish, one is for recycling. Ensure all plastic bottles, tin cans and cardboard boxes placed in the recycling bin are squashed and flattened.
Please dispose of your own glass bottles before departure as we unfortunately cannot offer recycling for glass. There are glass recycling bins in Westport in the car park behind Lally's Pharmacy.
The bins are emptied every other week and will be emptied on Wednesday mornings, if either are too full, then please let our Caretaker Neil, know well in advance.
It is VITAL that you use these recycled and landfill bins appropriately as we may be fined for incorrect waste being in the wrong bin. If we are fined, we will pass this charge onto you after your stay.
There are two bins inside the house, 1 for landfill waste and 1 for recycled waste to help you with the sorting. Do not leave any rubbish around the house inside or out and ensure all ash from the fire and the Barbeque are disposed of in bags and placed in the bins provided when cold.
DO NOT FLUSH BABY WIPES, FACIAL WIPES, SANITARY TOWELS, KITCHEN ROLL or NAPPIES down the toilet - you can use the bins provided for these in the toilets. Only flush toilet roll please.
Please note: the downstairs ensuite toilet has a soft close lid. Do not force the lid to close - let it gently close itself. If this is broken during your stay, the cost of a new one will be deducted from your deposit.
Please note: The shower in the ensuite downstairs and the large ensuite upstairs need hot water supplied heated by the immersion heater or supplied from water heated while the central heating is turned on. They are not electric showers so won't heat the water automatically like the smallest ensuite shower upstairs does.
Also note the water temperature in the downstairs shower changes slowly so allow a couple of minutes for the water to change temperature before stepping into the shower.
Electricity is metered, further instructions on the use of this will be provided on arrival. Normal usage of Gas is allowed for in the rental cost, however if this exceeds the usual amount, then we will seek additional payment to cover this.
With the exception of Guide dog, pets of any kind are not permitted without prior express permission from the owner.
Loss of valuables:
The proprietors are not responsible for any loss of valuables or property or injury to any persons during your stay. They will not be responsible for any belongings left behind after departure.
A baby cot and stair gate can be provided on advance request. Cot linen/bedding needs to be brought along with you as we cannot provide this due to health and safety reasons.

If clients behave in a disruptive manner, cause damage to property or behave in any other manner deemed unreasonable by the officer of the company, rental of the property may be terminated with no rental refund.
The clients are liable for any damages that they may incur while staying at the property.
Your deposit will be refunded at the end of your stay through Airbnb as long as these Terms are followed and no damage is incurred during your stay. If there are damages, we will alert you of this as soon as possible and also provide photographs of the same damage, along with the necessary costs to repair. Please note this also covers stained bedlinen or towels which we cannot remove using normal cleaning. If special cleaning at the Laundrette is required to remove stains, then a fee will be charged to cover same. If bedlinen or towels need to be rejected then the cost of new bedlinen will be payable.
Do NOT separate the L shaped sofa in the living room. It is not designed to be taken apart.
Do NOT move beds from one room to another or any other furniture from one room to another.
Please ensure you bring your own beach towels for swimming at the local pool or at the beach.
Bath and hand towels MUST NOT be removed from the house for any purpose.
Please bring your own tea towels with you as these are not provided.
Please bring your own tea towels and dish cloths for the kitchen as we do not provide these.
Please do not use house towels while using hair dyes or applying fake tan as these stains may not be possible to remove.
Any dispute or difference of any kind whatsoever which arises or occurs between any of the parties hereto in relation to any thing or matter arising under, out of or in connection with this Contract shall be referred to arbitration under the Arbitration Rules of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – Irish Branch.
Alternatively a claim may be pursued through the Small Claims Court.
Payments: All payments must be made as requested and in advance. No cheques.
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time.
I just love Oakleaf Cottage, Westport, Co Mayo - it's a real luxury home from home with extra comfort, warmth, and fabulous views of Croagh Patrick and the surrounding countryside. The house is large and so relaxing for a large group of guests with loads of room for everyone of every age. Kids have plenty of room outside to play ball, games and on their bikes. I love Oakleaf Cottage for the scenery and the fresh air [sometimes you can smell the sea from Clew Bay] and also because there's loads to do to suit all ages and abilities close by: cycling, mountain climbing, river and sea fishing, walking, surfing, cinema, skateboard park, horse-riding, Adventure Sports, Spas, great restaurants, pubs, lively nightlife, sightseeing and loads more...we always leave a bottle of wine and chocolates and a bale of fuel for the open fire to welcome our guests in, so why not come along and see for yourself?!
