Our apartment is perfect for the budget traveler. It's very clean and with about 500 square feet it is spacious enough for 2 guests, although there is a fold out couch if you need it. My wife and I lived here before buying the main house on the property. It was a great place to live and gave us many happy years. I'm sure you will love it too!
Located near Congress and Riverside, just a few blocks away from longtime Austin establishments such as Guero's Taco Bar, The Continental Club, Allen's Boots, and many other amazing restaurants, shops and music venues. The South Congress bridge, where the bats emerge at sunset every evening from March to October, is just a few more blocks away and leads directly into the downtown area only a mile from our apartment, all within walking distance. You can pick up the hike and bike trail at the bridge as well, and it runs for many miles around Lady Bird Lake. Public bike rentals are within a five minute walk on Congress Avenue.
We do provide off street parking for one car.
Rate includes 15% state and local hotel taxes for stays shorter than 30 days.

You can park in our driveway but please leave a space to one side for one of our cars. The door will be unlocked when you arrive and the keys will be on the table. The wireless access code is on the inside of the front door. If you smoke, there is an ash tray under the sink and a place to sit and smoke out front. Please don't smoke inside. There are trash cans to the side of the apartment that you can place your butts in. Thanks!
We live in the house in front but are very respectful of your privacy.

John's place is perfect for a trip to Austin. Three blocks from S. Congress with places like the Continental Club and Guero's. About a mile and a half from E. 6th. for many music choices. We walked everywhere, but Uber into the City runs less than $10 and the drivers were great. Bike share stations are also very close. Plan to keep your car parked. Austin traffic rivals anywhere in the country.....really the only negative. Check out S. 1st also. The place is really starting to happen.
The room itself is a one bedroom garage apartment with an extra sofa bed. Nice touches like organic coffee, half and half and water can be found in the fridge. Wi-Fi, although weak is available. All in all this place rocks! Thanks John....we shall return!
Great apartment in a great location! Met the host once, very friendly and easygoing. This was the perfect place for a quick trip to Austin!
Nice little mother-in-law apartment behind main house. John and wife were very flexible with check-in and check-out....which helped us immensely.
This is very nice residential location close walking distance to a rapidly developing night life and restaurant area. Can walk to bat bridge on Congress easily, but a bit of a shlep to 6th Street. Also close to nice hiking trails along Lady Bird Lake.
Cute, cozy, and comfortable! We felt right at home with the diverse selection of books and music. A very short walk to S. Congress landmarks through Travis Heights was perfect for lunch and dinner. I would highly recommend this property.
John spoke to me on the day I arrived, and had left the door open for me while he picked up his child from school. He gave me a corkscrew when I could not find one in the apartment. (I later found the corkscrew that was already in the well-stocked apartment.) I asked if I needed to check out with him on my final day, and he said, "No, we're good," as I had prepaid. I did speak to John's wife before departing, and she was also very friendly and accommodating. The neighborhood was quiet, tree-lined and peaceful. I had a glass of wine outside the front door of the apartment one night and just soaked up the quiet, informal neighborhood. The Cains have chickens, a dog and a cat, which I liked as an animal lover. I also loved the apartment being full of books and music CDs. The TV requires an upgrade to digital--it worked the first night, but not after that. I didn't miss it, but the next guest might. Plenty of linens and bedding, and I slept well. Two air conditioners kept the place cool. John and his family allowed me to use their freezer in the room next to the apartment to chill my beer and keep some groceries. I used the microwave to make breakfast and a couple of dinners, which was a bit of a challenge, but worked. Dishes were plentiful, but I would have liked to also have a few more microwave pans or dishes--most guests won't need this though, as I doubt most will want to cook in the microwave as much as I did. I would have liked having a larger drip coffee maker in the room. The shower and water pressure were pleasant, and there was adequate light throughout the apartment. Everything in the apartment was comfortable, and I would definitely stay here again if I have the chance. Convenient to a bus stop and South Congress St., where there are lots of places to eat and be entertained. Neighborhood was sleepy in a good way. I did not lock the apartment door when I went out to attend my conference each day, and felt perfectly safe walking back from the bus stop, sometimes after dark. People were friendly in the neighborhood as well, as I walked back and forth to and from the bus stop. The cat and I bonded!
