The Space

Feel like you want the "Portland" experience without the hustle & bustle of staying downtown?

We have a spacious, furnished, second-story room with a comfortable queen-sized bed (and an additional queen-sized air mattress for any more guests)--and it's a less than 5-minute walk away from an independent brewery/pub with amazing reviews (Breakside!), coffee/pastry shop (Woodlawn!!), a pizza place (Good Neighbor!!), and an upscale yet low-key restaurant serving northern Italian fare (The Firehouse!!)! Kids will love the great park across the street. We're a 5-minute drive from I-5, 15 minutes from the airport, and about 10 minutes from downtown Portland (depending on traffic)...or an easy 40 minute, no-transfer-necessary bus ride.

We have a backyard garden-in-process, complete with chickens. You'll be welcome to help yourself to fresh eggs for breakfast, as well as anything in the garden that's in season (anything from kale to strawberries) or in the refrigerator. We have a (seriously) adorable and well-behaved corgi named Lucy--she's very polite and her furness is not allowed in the guest room.

We're a married couple who have loved Portland for years and can answer most questions. Your room is stocked with local maps and editions of Portland Magazine are ready for perusal, as well as a small flat-screen TV and DVD player with remote control & a complete set of Monty Python's Flying Circus (because nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!). You'll have access to your own dresser and closet, as well as your own bathroom across the hall and a half-bath downstairs. Feel free to use the kitchen. We do not have "fancy" cable, but we do have basic cable, wi-fi, and a washer/dryer that can be made available. Parking is on the street, but never a problem.

  • This was our first airbnb experience and it was fantastic. Katie, Brett and Lucy were awesome. They were the perfect hosts. We only wish we had more time just to visit with them. The house is large, well decorated, well maintained, very comfortable and welcoming. The room is upstairs, also large, and detailed with items a traveler needs such as a TV, ironing board and iron, a fan, and even brochures and maps. The house has central air, but the evenings were cool and it was nice to open the windows and let a nice breeze flow through the room. The house has great curb appeal and is stone’s throw to a nice park, and several eating establishments. Parking was not a problem. The car was safely parked along the curb and could even be seen from our room.
The next time we’re in Portland, the Schneider’s airbnb is a must for us.

    Sincerely,
    Rich & Sherry Baker

  • This was better than staying in a hotel - the house and room were beautiful, and the Schneiders were very accommodating. We loved the fresh eggs and sugar peas from the garden. It was perfect!

  • The hosts, Katie, Brett & Lucy are very comfortable to communicate with. We asked many questions and they answered each single one with kindness. Also we appreciate that they gave us a plenty of space and privacy, however, they are there when we needed them. Lucy (Kogi) is fun to play with. We enjoyed playing with her with her chicken(toy : )).
The house is spacious and the bedroom which we are in is spacious, too with TV, a lot of brochures, magazines, classic radio player, drawer and even a yoga mat : ).
The bathroom is a spacious one, too and it is very clean and neat.
The neighborhood is very safe to walk and there are 4, 5 spots for drinks/eat. All of them are very friendly and have excellent foods and beers (IPA esp.).

Overall, we really enjoyed staying at their beautiful house and exploring portlandia way of life. We love how they live : )

  • I spent 4 days at Chez Schenider together with a friend. Our experience was just PERFECT! The house is really beautiful and comfortable, we felt home very soon. Everything shown on the pictures looks even better in person and the neighborhood is nice as well. If you are either by bike or by car, you will definitely enjoy the wonderful "Portland experience" staying in this gorgeous house. Also, Katie was super helpful and accommodating at all times.
We would absolutely go back to Katie's if we return to Portland, 100% recommended!

  • NO need to look further....What a PERFECT place to stay! I normally stay in either the Hilton brand hotels or Marriott because of the wonderfully comfortable beds and service those hotel chains provide.....but I will tell you, Katie has a complete gem here! The bed was SO very comfortable and private! I used Katie as a resource for gallivanting around town and sightseeing. She is so very knowledgeable and just as sweet as can be. The back-yard chickens were a hoot! I enjoyed sitting on the back deck and watching them. We loved Lucy (corgi) too! This couple did a great job of letting me know they were available 24/7 if needed, but allowed for lots of private time if we were not feeling social. What a nice balance. These two truly have a gift of hospitality. Thank you, thank you!

  • We had a lovely stay at Chez Schneider. My group of four was comfortably accommodated in 2 spacious, clean rooms with a private bathroom. The home was close to a light rail station and to the Alberta area. There was a excellent brewery, coffee shop, market, and park within a few blocks. Katie and Brett were welcoming, friendly, and happy to share information on Portland. It was a lovely stay in a great city to explore.

  • We had a lovely stay with Katie and Bret. They could not have been more welcoming. The room and private bath are very spacious and clean. We appreciated being able to use the kitchen--wish we had more time to take them up on the offer of fresh eggs for breakfast! The location is great--easy drive from the airport and lots of places to eat within walking distance. Thank you!

  • This was my first time with airbnb, so take the rave with a grain of salt I guess, but Katie and Brett have a lovely, comfortable place and were super helpful hosts. Their house is near an amazing brew pub (Breakside) and not too far off the Alberta Arts district, which was a lot of fun to check out. We really enjoyed our stay and would go back for sure.

  • Katie and Brett were great down-to-earth hosts! Their home is so lovely and the room was such a nice place to come back to after a long day. Loved the private bathroom! We stayed during the week with really long days due to work, but Katie and Brett were awesome in being available when needed. Lucy the Corgi is so sweet and is ready to play at any given moment. Best part or the mornings was cooking up the eggs from the live-in chickens in their backyard! Wonderful experience in Portland.

About
Laid back and witty, I prefer to make sure that people can comfortably take care of themselves. I love Portland, chocolate, beer, and a variety of artsy-craftsy stuff ranging from pen & ink drawing to photography to sewing. When I travel, I like to really experience an area for what it is. Tourist attractions are okay, but I'd rather hang out in a cafe and people watch. My favorite Portland restaurants are the Screen Door, the Firehouse, and Andina (I used to work there!). I also love my neighborhood joints: Breakside Brewery, Woodlawn Coffee & Pastry, and Good Neighbor Pizza. I'm generally relaxed, though I also work and attend grad school. My husband also works full-time, so while we'll be around, you won't see too much of us during the week.
