Description

The space

This is a large, sunny room with its own spacious bathroom , looking out over private gardens. We are in an early Victorian house in a secluded corner of St Leonards' bohemian quarter . It is really peaceful here with private communal gardens in front of this row of beautiful villas. We have our own large garden with studios at the back. We are just 5 minutes walk from the sea and a 30 minute walk along the seafront to the historic old town with its unique fishing fleet on the beach. We are 10 mins from the train station taking you directly to London and fashionable Brighton. The room is large and airy with a comfortable double bed with cotton sheets and its own en suite bathroom. It looks out onto the lovely communal garden. We can accommodate a carry cot or put up an extra single bed for a child. We are on a private road so it is very peaceful and quiet. Parking is available.

We have wi-fi and limited parking. A simple breakfast of tea/coffee toast, homemade preserves and cereal is available on request and is included.

We have a piano if anyone feels the urge to play.

The neighborhood

A couple of minutes walk away is an excellent restaurant, St Clements, serving locally sourced food, though you may need to book at weekends. Next to it is The Horse and Groom , the oldest and best pub in St Leonards. On Norman Road 5 minutes away we have a wonderful new independent cinema/gallery/restaurant, Kino-Teatr (URL HIDDEN) The cinema is the original 1913 cinema beautifully restored. Also nearby on Norman Road and the seafront are lots of lovely cafes which sell good food, and there are some fun vintage and second-hand clothes shops as well as antique shops and galleries. In the Old Town is the recently opened Jerwood gallery . Hastings is an eccentric town that likes any excuse to celebrate so there is usually a festival or event of some kind going on such as the Seafood and Wine Festival and the Coastal Currents Art Festival both in September, the Green Man festival in May and Old Town week in August..
A great place to visit nearby is the De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill which has high profile art exhibitions .There is also easy access to the gorgeous Hastings country park by taking the Victorian funicular lift from the Old Town.
A perfect get-away from the city!

Getting around

We are a 10 minute walk from St Leonards Warrior Square train station and a 25 minute walk to the Old Town. Only 5 minutes to the sea front. You can get to Bexhill and the De La Warr Pavillion by train in 10 minutes.

Adrienne's place is homey and cosy, we didn't spend a lot of time there or with our hosts - maybe next time as we hope to return to St Leonard's!

I had some really lovely days in Hastings / St Leonards and Adrienne and Nick are absolutely wonderful hosts. The room is exactly as pictured, large, clean and cosy. The place is perfectly located 5 min from the sea and a nice walk along the coast from Hastings old town. A great place to stay!

We didn't meet Adrianne, but had good communication. Nick, her husband however was very generously hospitable and welcoming. There was a relaxed and creative atmosphere in their home, and we had some interesting and experimental conversations. We also loved to walk around and see some great art pieces. Was a perfect way to spend a birthday weekend and we hope to return one day

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Adrienne's interesting house. I like the books you read and noted a few of the authors I have not read... Thanks for all the breakfast choices.Sorry not to have met you Adrienne...maybe next time when we visit Hastings.

Our stay was during windy November weather and this house was really warm. The bed was comfortable and hot baths/showers were available. Our room was large with bathroom, slightly tired but ok for a few nights. For those who appreciate art, this is the place to stay. There is a walk down to local shops and restaurants and car parking is easier if you have a smaller car. The hosts were friendly and helpful.

I work in education as an efl teacher. I am also an artist as is my husband. I enjoy cooking, gardening and swimming and have 3 children aged 17, 23 and 25. We enjoy being outdoors and our favourite thing is to go to our beach hut and swim in the sea . We love good food, music, art and films- all the good things in life!
