We are very close to downtown Gulfport, and even though there are many restaurants within an easy driving distance from here, there is nothing nicer than to walk into town for a meal, and then walk home again on the historic brick lined streets of Gulfport.
If you want to relax and have a comfortable place to return to, this is the place.
Fresh towels when needed and twice a week access to laundry facilities.
Bikes are available for your use.
If you feel creative come work in the clay studio. I will be more than glad to give you a lesson, or just work alongside of you.
I live on the premises. You will hear me calling my cats in at night or throwing the rubber duck to my dog. I was a teacher, and tend to have a friendly helpful nature, and will do my best to help you have an enjoyable stay while in Gulfport. If you are without a car I will help you shop for any food necessities you will need. I usually bake something once or twice a week to share with my guest. It is just a laidback easy existence here.
I have only lived in Gulfport a little over a year, and I love it. Everyone says good morning, or just gives a hello. This place is like stepping back into Mayberry USA. Get this, the little ( full service,) post office is in an antique collective right next to "Stellas" my favorite place to eat breakfast outside. This is a pet friendly place, so you will see people walking their dogs all over the place.
In the morning, or any time of day, take a walk on the pier, sometimes the fishermen will talk to you, but you can just sit and look out over the water towards distant Treasure Island. I prefer watching the morning mist rise, but the evening sunset is just as lovely; afterwards you can stroll over to one of the many outdoor restaurants, there is always a festive atmosphere in the air. If you walk towards the Marina and the Clam Bayou, you will find yourself on nature trails where you can see all the wonderful birds that migrate here.
If you are a bike rider, come ride the Pinellas Bike Trail, which takes you on established bike trails through preserved nature parks and neighborhoods of Pinellas County. There are bikes for your use on the premises.
The bus stop is not even a 1/4 block away, either coming or going, on 28th ave., which the main house faces. There are buses that will take you through the town, and another that takes you out to the mall or into St. Petersburg.
I can will take you food shopping and possibly transport you back and forth from the airport.
I can't say enough good about my two week stay at Susan's place in Gulfport, it was truly a perfect experience. Her description of her accommodations are 100% accurate. Her place is absolutely lovely and spacious with all the necessities one would require. I felt as if I was staying in a European villa! Beautiful linens, plants, and art objects adorn this one room light-filled apartment.
Susan is a gracious host who knows a lot about the town of Gulfport. She's also a wonderfully kind person and a talented artist! As an artist myself I was looking for a place to work that would accommodate both the privacy I needed and some extra support re: access to a more industrial sink and a place to draw. Upon finding out I was an artist Susan immediately offered me a drawing table to use in the apartment and allowed me to use her yard to develop sun prints! I also appreciated how quiet the neighborhood was. Walking to downtown Gulfport from her place was enjoyable and she was quick to lend her bike when she wasn't using it. I highly recommend Susan's Gulfport accommodations, it's a five-star treasure!
The artistic Clay Cottage guest suite was a perfect way to enjoy our recent dance weekend at the Gulfport Casino! Everything in the suite was clean, fresh and appealing! Plenty of sunlight fills the space and the "treehouse" feeling was terrific. The street is quiet but convenient and easy walking to the downtown area.
The Clay Cottage bed was comfortable and well-appointed with lovely sheets and down comforters, the towels were lovely and plentiful. The added inflatable bed was high quality and our host was savvy enough to put a blanket on the sleeping surface so it was cozy and warm with no loss of heat from below - a nice touch! Susan made sure we were well taken care of in all ways, including adding space heaters for the unexpected cold and a welcome perk of fresh yogurt and juice in the frig.
Susan was a perfect host, seeing to our needs and offering us help. Wish we could have had more time just to visit her.... possibly on another trip.
Overall excellent experience and we can highly recommend the Clay Cottage.
Susan is a terrific host- very accommodating and generous. She really went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and that we enjoyed our visit in St Petersburg. We would definitely rent from Susan again. Kevin and Claude
