This is the house we locally named Acopio. It was a fish processing plant back in the day. Now it processes good times and fond memories
Simple airy two bedroom that easily sleeps six.
Located right on the beach in the small fishing village of El Gigante, this is close to both the restaurants and shops of town and great access to surf. It’s just on the outskirts of town, the last house on the beach. The,sometimes monkey filled, trees, shade the house and make it nice and cool in the afternoons. What really makes this a neat place to stay is you have easy access to various restaurants a few shops and great surf. You won't find that at any place in the area even at the tall dollar places your basically stuck inside this gated Gringo Community. Playa Gigante has real charm and real Nicaraguan culture. Surf is a couple hundred yard walk to the north along Amarillo beach ( the most beautiful beach in Nicaragua) and walking a leisurely 30 min you pass two other breaks, one of which is Slackers ,a high tide beauty, on your way to Playa Colarado and Panga Drops. The beach right in town is protected by the Giant's Foot that sticks out into the Pacific and there a calm waters for swimming in the centre of the bay. In front of our place most of the local surfers rode their first waves. It's a sweet little wave and it's never crowded.
Meet the fishermen right on the beach and buy fresh fish and lobsters.
Fruit and veggie truck arrives daily
Close walk to four surf spots, five restaurants and two grocery stores.
A little town with lots to offer
This house can sleep eight but if your bigger group, we also rent out other rooms on the same property.
Nothing quite like waking up right on the beach. You sleep to the sound of surf and wake to the sound of Howler Monkeys in the trees
We are off the path well traveled. Your going to have to take a cab from Rivas or we can arrange to have your flight met. Gigante just got it's first bus that connects it to Rivas twice a day. There is a local truck that take the local kids to school in Tola. It is a ride in to the closest town of any size and is for the seasoned budget traveler or those searching for cultural experiences.
Dale's place was the jam. We spent 4 nights at Dale's and definitely had the chance to relax at the beach. The location to Gigante's store was perfect. There are two great restaurants and a local bar with digital juke box right next door on the beach. We felt like we were on Survivor at times. There is a community feel amongst the folks staying there: eating/cooking together, fires in the fire pit at night together, so we enjoyed getting to know some of the other patrons. The beaches are gorgeous. Playa Gigante, Amarillo and Colorado are all withing walking distance. We hiked up to the cliff at Gigante for some stellar views. Blue Sol played a college football game for us on their upstairs bar- much appreciated. There is no bank and no laundry services in the area although Dale's housekeepers may wash some things for you if you're nice. We took the 7:30AM bus (Monday- Saturday in front of Blue Sol) to Rivas for under 30 Cords. Loved all the hammocks at Dale's and cooking on the stove in the big house. The grocery store had all the supplies we needed but if you're coming from Tola/Rivas, stock up there because you'll save a bit of money. Dale was great to us. He refilled our gas container for the stove quickly after it ran out and gave us a new kitchen knife when he found out ours was chipped. Maximum chill potential at Dale's. Body surfed into many sunsets!
This is the kind of people who Airbnb attracts. I really like the "vibe of my paces now. The people make it I just try to provide the essentials and stay out of the way.
I can provide a taxi to meet your flight and he will stop at the Maxi Pali for shopping and ATM. He charges $80 and the ride is a couple hours.
Thanks again for being so cool and making our place better for you being here. I'm sitting in front of the Gigante store writing this drinking a cold Victoria. You have had to been here to know the feeling
The bodysurfing in the front yard is really good.
This is the perfect place to come by yourself or with your friends or your family to wind down and enjoy a small low-key village with very nice people and meet people from all over the world. I stayed six weeks with my wife and three young kids ages 9,7, and 5. We all did the spanish school which was fantastic. The house has more than enough room and is a very wonderful place to relax. The best part is how quiet it is every day in meeting amazing people from all over the world. Watching the sun set was a great way to finish every day.
This place is not for you if you absolutely need a/c, and can't handle an occasional bug, bat, or lizard inside. We thought it just added character :-)
The staff was absolutely amazing and very friendly. They will help you with anything.
Wow, what to say?! I made a mistake and thought we were staying in San Juan del Sur, but I'm SOOOO glad I did! Dale, you were right, we wanted to stay forever. The house is right on the beach, I mean - right on the beach. We loved the house, the yard and most especially all the dogs. The mostly black one with a little bit of brown was my favorite. I hate to be the cliche gringa/wannabe ex-patriot, but my boyfriend and I want to move to Playa el Gigante and open a small business of some sort. We loved it there! So relaxing and beautiful and the people were so nice! I made a whole lot of friends in two nights. Ladies, I was the only female in a bar full of friendly and very complimentary Nicaraguan men - and yes, we danced and had a great time. Ernesto, the surfboard repairman is one of the nicest people I've met in my life. I miss him already. Oh, and don't forget to book a massage at the Aqua Wellness Resort. It was breathtakingly beautiful and we saw monkeys. People, if you want to take a break from it all and stay in heaven for a while, this is where you want to go. Just bring whatever you think you might need with you - this is a small town. :)
Dale, I'm just sorry we were never able to meet you - we are definitely going to come back and would like to take you out for a drink. One day, I hope we can be neighbors!
Dale was a great host. The house is exactly as described. Location is unreal and the town is very relaxing.
Small Central American Fishing/Surf town with tons of culture. Definitely worth a visit to Dale's place.
Dale was a superb host! He was friendly and very helpful with regard to what to do, where to eat etc..
The house was amazing. It has two spacious rooms with a double bed in each and then a bunk bed in the living room area. You can through a stone into the sea from the house - it's that close. The house is cleaned daily by very friendly staff.
The area itself is unreal. Friendly people and great, chilled out atmosphere.
We loved staying in Dale's place. Our entire experience was filled with fun, good company, and the most beautiful views. I would go back in a heartbeat. The price is more than fair, and we saved quite a bit cooking ourselves a few nights. Great surf super close, and we even treated ourselves to a spa day down the beach at Aqua. I highly recommend this option for your Nicaragua getaway.
Brian was an incredibly gracious host. He was very informative and nice from the moment we checked in until we said goodbye. The house was just as described. And the location watch perfect. I can't wait to come back here!

I left my home in San Diego California to go live in a shack on the North Shore of Oahu. I caught the surf bug early and have spent many years exploring the coastline from San Francisco to the Colombian border. Looking for good waves, nice people and prefect weather. Playa Gigante is where I stopped looking and started building. I believe Playa Gigante is one of the most magic spots on this coast and I have build several small comfortable house to stay in. I hope you will also find the magic that I enjoy here in Playa Gigante.
