Simple airy two bedroom that easily sleeps six.
Located right on the beach in the small fishing village of El Gigante, this is close to both the restaurants and shops of town and great access to surf. It’s just on the outskirts of town, the last house on the beach. The,sometimes monkey filled, trees, shade the house and make it nice and cool in the afternoons. What really makes this a neat place to stay is you have easy access to various restaurants a few shops and great surf. You won't find that at any place in the area even at the tall dollar places your basically stuck inside this gated Gringo Community. Playa Gigante has real charm and real Nicaraguan culture. Surf is a couple hundred yard walk to the north along Amarillo beach ( the most beautiful beach in Nicaragua) and walking a leisurely 30 min you pass two other breaks, one of which is Slackers ,a high tide beauty, on your way to Playa Colarado and Panga Drops. The beach right in town is protected by the Giant's Foot that sticks out into the Pacific and there a calm waters for swimming in the centre of the bay. In front of our place most of the local surfers rode their first waves. It's a sweet little wave and it's never crowded.
Meet the fishermen right on the beach and buy fresh fish and lobsters.
Fruit and veggie truck arrives daily
Close walk to four surf spots, five restaurants and two grocery stores.
A little town with lots to offer
This house can sleep eight but if your bigger group, we also rent out other rooms on the same property.
Nothing quite like waking up right on the beach. You sleep to the sound of surf and wake to the sound of Howler Monkeys in the trees
We are off the path well traveled. Your going to have to take a cab from Rivas or we can arrange to have your flight met. Gigante is not big enough to support a proper bus. There is, however a local truck that take the local kids to school in Tola. It is a ride in to the closest town of any size and is for the seasoned budget traveler or those searching for cultural experiences.
Great location. Five of us stayed here for four nights and we all enjoyed it a lot. Great access to the beach and surf. The town was low key which was exactly what we wanted. We rented boards and Doug lined up a surf lesson for us.
There are restaurants and a coffee shop within walking distance, but the house had basically everything we needed to cook meals in.
Could have stayed much longer!
We were a group of 4 who rented the house right on the beach for a whole month. We had the best time, so much that we are heading back to Dale's and Playa Gigante to finish the trip were we started it.
The house is perfect and here you have everything you need; everything from fully equipped kitchen, clean rooms, nice speakers to an amazing shower. The quiet (Perfect beginner) beach break, Playa Amarillo, is just a 5 min walk away, you have surf in your front yard from time to time and you go to bed at night to the sound of the waves breaking just 20 meter from the house.
Playa Gigante is a very friendly and neat little town and it is one of the most unique places we've ever been. This is the perfect place to come for really good surf (beginners to expert level), fishing, learning spanish or just take it easy.
Dale Dagger and the people working/living on the property are very friendly people and they were the best hosts!
We can Highly recommend this house and to rent any of Dale's properties and rentals. If you're a group of friends, a couple or family; this would suit everyone. Many travellers come to Playa Gigante for just a couple of days, but we can really recommend to rent this house and stay for a whole month. If you rent the house for one month, if you are 4 people, you pay less than a hostel and what you get is totally too good to be true. And if you just want to stay in one spot for quite some time, to surf or study spanish, this is the Perfect place to be! We were there in the "low/rainy" season (for the whole month of October) and it was perfect. It was sunny all day and super cool thunder storms at night, we had the whole beach for our self while we were learning how to surf and it was the perfect time to take some spanish classes.
Over all. We loved everything about this place and Playa Gigante and we recommend this to anyone, at any time.
Thank you Dale, Dougie and Brian, and the other cool people who stayed at Dale's while we were there, for making this one of our best experiences ever.
See you soon!
Mathilda, Sam, Dennis and Niklas
Dale's place is was great. Just in front of the beach with an amazing view was the place to relax. Dale and Doogie fulfilled all our needs during the stay. I will definetly recomend this place to surf or just relax!
Dale's place is where it's at for those looking to keep it real and hide out in a beautiful beach cove. The surfing is all time, the water is 80, the lobster is fresh and delicious, and the sunsets are epic. Dale's description of his property and the house, as well as the town, is spot on and I couldn't ask for anything more. Would absolutely go back and highly recommend staying here to anyone passing through.
We had a great time at Dale's place in Playa Gigante. The house was much larger than the pictures made it seem, with two private rooms and another separate bunk bed. The kitchen was great and had everything we needed to cook meals for ourselves. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a great place to base a Nicaraguan surf or beach vacation from.
We were a bit shocked at first - landing in the dry and dusty El Gigante. Even more - turned out the water was waaaay colder than we had expected! At there was no internet which was essential for we do our work stuff! We went for a walk to the beach on sunset and our minds calmed so much - we realized everything was good ... we wanted to stay at Dales place!
The next day Dale gave us a usb dongle with mobile internet, we went swimming and the water was not so bad, we enjoyed another beautiful sunset! We started feeling us at home! Our girls loved the constant company of the five dogs - never did the dogs even bark at them!
Dale shared his old bodyboard with us and Doug gave us some snorkeling gear! Everybody was very friendly and helpful! Our month there felt like a week - time went by in a blink!
Dales place is awsome and we highly recommend it! Just be sure to stock-up on money before you go there since the closest atms are in Rivas and if you don't have a car, it's quite a run you have to make!!!
Also make sure you never leave your clothes on the wire over-night ... you might never see them again as it happened to us! Anyways - don't let it scare you ... El Gigante is a wonderful place to stay!
Came for one night and ended up staying four!! Playa Gigante is magical and worth the trek to get there. Just plan on staying longer than you originally thought.
