Forest View Bungalow

Apartment - Entire home/apt · George St, Lorne, VIC 3232, Australia

The Space

A new self contained garden studio apartment in Lorne on the Great Ocean Road. Overlooks the Otway forest and is a short walk to Teddy's Lookout and Lorne beach, restaruants, and cafes. Queen bed, kitchenette, separate ensuite, private deck with weber barbeque. Air conditioned with TV/DVD. A great place to stay for a relaxing getaway or for beach, bush walking, or sight seeing along the Great Ocean Road.

If you are travelling the Great Ocean Road Lorne is a great place to stop as it offers the only protected surf beach along the coast as well as access to the Otway Forest which surrounds the township. You therefore have the beach as well as the forest walks and waterfalls at your doorstep.

At the time of writing a family of Koalas were living in the trees over the road from our house (see photo of mother and young one) where Forest View is located and they have been there for some months. We are also regularly visited by King Parrots, Sulfur Crested Cockatoos, Black Cockatoos, Gang Gang Cockatoos as well as many other smaller native birds. We also often see Kangaroos and Wallabies in the forest behind our house and it is a very special place for us because of the wildlife here.

During peak holiday periods or popular weekends a two night minimum may apply.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • This is a very pleasant, clean and comfortable place to stay overnight. The bed was really nice, with noticably good quality linen. There was even a block of Lindt chocolate to make our stay even better (which after the big hill climb back to the room could be enyoyed without guilt). Very self-sufficient little studio, quiet and secluded.

  • I did not have the pleasure of meeting Ray during our stay, but communication with him was excellent all the way through and the bungalow was a great place to stay. The room was immaculate, private and furnished with all the trimmings. There was tea, coffee and even yoghurt, fruit and muesli for the morning! Ray also put an iron in the room for us after I asked if I should bring one, and he also let us check in early because we had to get to a wedding ceremony in the early afternoon. Overall it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely stay with Ray again if I'm ever in Lorne! Thanks!

  • Ray's place is gorgeous, we love how everything works in this little self-contain bungalow. The layout is a little different from the one shown in the photo, but it suit us even better. If we visit Lorne again, this will definitely be the first place we looking to stay.

  • Great place! The room and facility is better than most hotels. We had a wonderful time. Ray is a wonderful host, communication is very smooth. Highly recommending this bungalow in the forest.

  • We spent one lovely night at Ray's place. Everything was well organised and ready for us. It's a very comfortable room, nicely set up. We would've liked to have spent more time there but we had to get on the road and explore the Great Ocean Rd.

  • Our stay with Ray was perfect. His spot was just magical. One side you are looking into a forest of green and then going out the other side of Rays home was the ocean. The space was just as we had previewd but better. We enjoyed talking with Ray on numerous subjects and will miss his insight into the area and other subjects we all shared. We still miss his dog, Acacia! The communication leading up to our arrival was just fantastic and it was obvious that he was doing everything leading up to our arrival as it should be. We would definitely recommend to anyone his property and hopefully we can return again at another time.

  • Amazing bungalow! Beautifully designed, modern furniture and fittings. I particularly loved the rain shower head! Ray was very helpful and is one of the most kind people I've met. We'll come back here on our next visit.

  • Fantastic location, on a calm and panoramic hill, just 2 min. driving from the seaside. This little stylish apartment is furnished with rare taste, totally new and fully equipped. 4-stars class hotel amenities are available in the room,
    Wish to stay there again.

  • The apartment was ideal for us. Although not far from the hustle and bustle of the main area, it was in an ideal tranquil setting with an outlook of trees and birds, although no koalas there during the period we stayed. The furnishings were of a very high standard and the shower room is definitely the type I want if and when we move homes. Ray was very helpful in our difficulty in the initial linkup with Wifi and extremely trusting.

I am married with three adult children who have all left the nest. My partner Anne still works but I am retired and spend most of my time bike riding, swimming and doing small renovation work either on our Melbourne house or at our house in Lorne where Forest View is located. Much of my time is also spent as a volunteer English language tutor and doing handyman/building work on remote Aboriginal communities around Australia. I love cooking and have a love of most food but especially cheese and I am also a home cheese maker, my favorites being soft washed rind cheese and blues. My aspiration (probably unachievable) is to make a blue that comes near the best French blues like Roquefort and Saint Argur.
