Retreat to the sanctuary of the Nicasio Creek Cottage, a beautiful historical getaway at the geographic and cultural heart of Marin County.
With the constant stress of daily living, most of us need regular contact with nature to switch off, unwind and reflect. Just 45 minutes from downtown San Francisco, 20 minutes to Point Reyes National Seashore, 30 minutes to the Sonoma Wine Country and just up the road from the Lucas Film's creative epicenter, Skywalker Ranch, a stay in this newly remodeled cottage - once the deer camp for the local ranch - has you perfectly situated to enjoy all that the area has to offer.
Whether its just a short weekend refresh or a peaceful extended stay amongst the beautiful natural surrounds, you will come away inspired and revitalized! Enjoy the serene country setting by day and dance the night away to live music at the celebrated Rancho Nicasio. Or pick up some delicious locally made cheese at the Nicasio Valley Cheese Company, California's only certified organic farmstead cheesemaker, and enjoy it on the sunny, creek-side deck with a glass of wine. If you are more the active type, this is a paradise for cyclists, hikers, bikers and naturalists of all sorts. Hike the hills around the property or bring your road bikes and enjoy one of the many famed rides that begin at the cottage's private gate.
The cottage has a private entrance (owners live at the other end of the property), large deck overlooking a seasonal creek and waterfall, full kitchen, bedroom with queen size bed and cozy living room that opens up onto the deck. A television with DVD player is available and fresh eggs are stocked in the fridge upon arrival. There is limited wireless internet available.
In addition to chickens there are horses, goats, cats, birds and dogs on the property so for their safety and comfort there are absolutely no visiting pets permitted. Even the very sweet and well behaved visiting cats and dogs are disruptive to the animals that live here so please don't ask! Sorry, NO exceptions.

Holly's cottage was cute as ever. The back french doors opened to a little creek, a great view for morning coffee. My husband and I didn't get a lot of time in the cottage as we were busy visiting family in the area, but it was so nice to have such a beautiful place to escape to.
Holly was a truly gracious host. She provided us with local Information before we arrived including great hikes and places to eat. She provided us fresh eggs every morning and introduced us to her horse and Pygmy goats and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. the cottage was perfect, nestled in the Nicasio valley by a lovely stream. It was exactly what we were hoping for: a great getaway close to Point Reyes and Mt Tam. After a great day on hiking along the beautiful Marin Coast we retuned to the cozy cottage to sit on the deck and drink a glass of California Chardonnay along the Nicasio Creek. Absolutely great getaway. We will be back the next time we are in Northern California.
Holly, first off thank you so much for being so accommodating and easy to work with in our initial setup of our visit. Being a first time AirBNB visitor you made it very painless and any future host will be compared to the standard you set. In regards to the property, this is and excellent place to stay. The "old fashion" style ranch house has a old world touch yet completely modernized with a very comfortable and welcoming feel.
Watching the farm animals play and go about their business is a great addition. The French doors leading out to the large deck is awesome. The cottage is isolated, yet your within a 5 to 20 minute drive to major trails, restaurants or the ocean.
Overall, no complaints and I'll be back with my family some day in the future..
This charming cabin in beautiful western Marin was perfect for our little family. Set on its own acre this property was very private and the hosts provided a great environment for us. The pygmy goats are a plus!!
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The setting is absolutely gorgeous - tall trees, piney smell, a babbling creek. From every window is a view of the sheep + goats grazing. It was such a treat to be in this setting, but still have many of the comforts of home.
The cottage was well appointed - finishes were nice (gorgeous floors), bed was comfortable, and lots of extras like nice bath products, well stocked fridge, and good coffee.
We had our one year old daughter with us, and she was in heaven along with us. She adored visiting the animals multiple times per day, but throwing rocks into the creek was the highlight. She would never have left if we hadn't made her. :)
There are loads of lovely hikes nearby. In our 48 hour stay we managed 3 of them. We can recommend the Bay Area Ridge Trail, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Samuel P Taylor State Park.
Holly was the perfect host. She answered a LOT of my questions, and she was friendly, but gave us plenty of privacy. We would love to come back to the cottage again!
We spent a couple of weekend nights at the cottage, and had an excellent time. The house is tiny but feels very welcoming and homey. Everything was very clean and in good condition, and the kitchen was well-stocked (including fresh eggs from the hens outside) for preparing a few meals. The bed and linens were very comfortable, and the bathroom was clean.
The cottage sits on a narrow piece of land between Lucas Valley road and Nicasio Creek, with the road about 50 yards away, the host's home about 200 yards away, and a pasture for sheep, goats, and a horse in-between. There is some noise from the road during the day, but otherwise felt very private and secluded. Having a chance to check out the animals was a highlight for us city dwellers.
Serene, beautiful, comfortable. This was a terrific stay. The space was a perfect size for one or two, and the kitchen was well-equipped so we could cook at home. The couch and bed were very comfy, and the property was peaceful and gorgeous.
I highly recommend it!
About the Host, Holly
Our family is thrilled to be able to share our little piece of paradise! On five acres along Nicasio Creek sits this lovely cottage which was, at one time, the deer hunting cabin for the local cattle ranch. Now renovated to be bright, airy and relaxing its the ideal place for a little R&R.
Enjoy the view of the beautiful forested creek side setting and keep an eye out for the wildlife that also call this home including deer, quail, foxes, hawks, bobcats and much more. Or, if dometic animals are more your thing say hi to the horses and goats right out your door and enjoy the freshly layed organic eggs provided to guests by the hens in the Chateu du Poulet.
Offering plenty of privacy while not being too isolated the Cottage is a convenient jumping off point for exploring the North Bay. We look forward to hosting you!
