About this listing
Our spacious first floor Monadnock Room sleeps two people while our fantastic breakfast gets you ready for a great day. Relax by the river behind the house, walk into historic downtown Peterborough or explore the many outdoor wonders of our area.
We are a recently renovated 1870s farmhouse situated along the scenic Nubanusit River in Peterborough, New Hampshire. We offer modern amenities, casual elegance, and warm hospitality.
The Monadnock Room is a spacious room with a low footboard Queen size Sleigh Bed with a large private bath, gas stove fireplace (window AC for the summer), writing desk, wifi and television.
Every day begins with a delicious multi-course breakfast that always includes fresh fruit, a delicious baked good or our now world-famous homemade granola, and one of our signature entrees like Blueberry Baked French Toast, Summer Vegetable Strata, or French Baked Egg. We use local eggs from free-range hens, local fruits and vegetables when in season, and offer fair-trade organic coffee.
There are snacks and home baked cookies available all the time as well as tea and hot chocolate.
Guests have access to their private room plus all the common spaces (sunroom, living room, dining room, outdoor river deck and the Adirondack chairs by the river).
Interaction with Guests
We are around the B&B much of the time and love to visit with our guests but guests can interact or not interact with us as much or as little as they want. There are four guest rooms so unless guests have booked all four rooms, they could run into other guests on the property as well.
Peterborough is a quintessential New England town which inspired Thornton Wilder's classic American play "Our Town" and has a pedestrian friendly downtown. Browse antique shops, shop in unique boutiques and art galleries, take advantage of Peterborough's rich arts community, and enjoy great dining with a variety of cuisines available.
Located in the Monadnock region, the undiscovered Southwest corner of NH, there are many opportunities to get outdoors. Hike Grand Monadnock (the most popular hiking in the U.S. with forty miles of trails and panoramic views of six New England States) and the rest of the Wapack Range, kayak the Contoocook river or some of our lakes and ponds, golf, bike, enjoy back-road scenic Fall Foliage, or just lay back and unwind in the serenity of the region.
People love to walk around Peterborough but it is a hard place to visit without private transportation. There are taxi services that service the region.
Other Things to Note
Peterborough is a fantastic, pedestrian friendly, culture rich, outdoor enthusiast area with great dining and shopping. There is something for almost everyone in our quintessential New England town.
We do not recommend the B&B for children under twelve years old and there is no smoking permitted anywhere on the property.
This B&B was perfect for our stay. The house is immaculate, yet not sterile looking. It makes you feel like you are in your own home. Rob and Paula as so accommodating and very helpful with surrounding activities and places to eat. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were soft, and the towels were fluffy. Great shower also. My wife and I felt very, very comfortable staying here and will make it our number one choice to return necessary.
One couple I met at breakfast had taken a B&B tour through New Hampshire and up to Boston last year. They were back here because they said it was by far the best B&B they'd stayed at.
About the Host, Robert
Hi I am Rob. Along with my wife Paula, we will be your hosts at Little River B&B. We are originally from Long Island, NY and the Hartford, CT area and also lived in Cleveland, Ohio for ten years. We love living in Peterborough because it has a little of most everything we love to do: hiking, kayaking, cycling, geocaching, live theater, unique dining experiences and many other things.
But it isn't about us…it's about our guests. Ask us about anything and everything…we love to chat with our guests!
