The space
Over four generations of my family have lived in this house beginning before 1900. You can rent the entire historic home for a weekend or longer and enjoy the Ohio scenic byways and the Buckeye trail during the day, eat out in restaurants in nearby Dennison, Cadiz, or New Philadelphia, visit Amish country, Tappan Lake Park, or create your own masterpiece in our fully furnished gourmet kitchen. This is a rare gem and perfect for families, hunters, or for weekend getaway- just you and your special love. Hazel's House sleeps 8 in four bedrooms. Please note this is the "country," and this house is imperfect and very old. Although we do our best to create a relaxing and special environment for you, the swallows nest in the eaves and window ledges on the porch every summer and bugs can fly in. I have taken this spring while waiting for the return of families from afar to reunite and relax in Hazel’s House to spruce up! We have added a new full bath upstairs with a luxurious soaking tub, fresh new plush towels, and in addition to our normal cleaning routine, all kitchen and bathroom surfaces and appliances are cleaned and disinfected with food grade commercial disinfectant after every guest. We want you to stay healthy and safe!

Guest access
In addition to the three bedrooms upstairs, soaking tub and full bath upstairs, and the bedroom downstairs connected to the full custom bath downstairs, you have access to the BBQ charcoal Weber grill outside, full kitchen furnished with basic supplies (flour, sugar, oil, etc.), steam sauna shower, heated bathroom marble floor, soaking tub, hot tub, all linens, free WiFi, down pillows, and down alternative comforters, plus a washer and dryer (bring your own detergent). Basement rooms and owner's stock rooms are off limits and locked, but you will enjoy the new large 16x20 deck and huge back yard, fire pit and the hot tub through the basement stairway.

Other things to note
If you have any questions about this area or the house, just ask. We want you to enjoy a hassle free vacation in Hazel's Home. We can refer you to attractions and restaurants, help you find a boat rental, or guide you to the Bald Eagle nesting nearby! We have good cell phone service (Verizon) and WiFi in the house if you must connect to the world.

Neighborhood highlights

There is no prettier place in the world for us than Deersville. Hazel's House is located in the middle of this tiny village, home to 60+ souls. If you come in the summer or fall, you might catch a live production of the Deersville Community Theater. The Deersville General Store next door offers its famous homemade ice cream and has a well stocked beer cooler, milk, eggs, bread, etc., pizza and deli counter. Clendening Lake Park and Tappan Lake Park both offer boat ramps and fishing in the spring and summer. The Marinas offer boat rentals of all types. Harrison County is renowned for deer and turkey hunting. Holmes County, home to Amish wares and antiques, is less than an hour west. We love to head into Pittsburgh for shopping and fine dining and pro sports for the day. Dennison offers up the Trax Diner and the Train Museum. You can shop for groceries at Mako's in Uhrichsville, or Buehler's in New Philadelphia on your way home after a day of touring, however the nearest gas, pizza, beer and food convenience store year round is right next door at the Deersville General Store.
The Tappan Lake Park has a beach with a lifeguard and trails through the woods for hiking and it’s only a 5 minute drive from the house. You can launch your boat, kayaks and canoes there, or for free at the boat ramp on Tappan Lake along Hwy 250, or contact the Tappan Lake Marina and check on boat and kayak rentals. You can get fishing licenses and live bait next door at the Deersville General Store. There are also trails at Lake Clendenning, another MWCD park a few miles away. That Marina rents pontoon boats and kayaks. Both parks have websites with loads of information, too. And you can hike a portion of the Buckeye Trail that runs through Deersville- we are located in the Bowerston section. If it’s rainy, we have plenty of board games in the house to play and homemade ice cream is just a short walk next door. You can also contact the Harrison County Tourism Council for more activities and places to go and see.
