Attractively decorated one bedroom vacation rental apartment in a quiet coastal village. Repainted and refurnished in the winter of 2012 after a long term tenant of thirteen years moved back home to Ohio. In fact, when we had to come up with a name for the apartment, he had lived there so long and had become such a part of every ones lives we continued calling it "Fred's Place".

The space
It's perfect for a party of two persons on a budget like ourselves. Situated a little bit over a mile from the park, less than a mile from the ferry and a little over a half mile from the ocean and center of town.

Here you can have remote, secluded, quiet or crowds anytime you want, it's just simply your call.

Winter Harbor is less commercialized than the other tourist spots but there's still a lot to do especially those guests who desire a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere. There are shops, restaurants, kayak/bike rentals and other businesses to explore including one of the oldest golf courses in the country. You can purchase lobster fresh off the boat that like everything else here won't break the bank. Two weeks during the summer there is an arts festival nestled around a one day lobster festival and year round just about every weekend there is a program, theater, concert, dance or some other event going on.

Acadia National Park is the most visited national park in the country and the majority of that onslaught is to Mount Desert Island. Fortunately we don't experience the immeasurable daily magnitude of people, traffic or cruise ships that MDI sees. Here you won't have to wait in long lines for ice cream and you won't feel like you somehow mysteriously ended up at Coney Island instead.

Anyway, Winter Harbor is a smaller seaside community across the bay from Bar Harbor with the only section of ANP on the mainland. The entrance road to the Schoodic District is a few hundred yards down Main Street where you'll find miles of hiking and biking trails. At Frazers Point there are picnic tables, many with fire rings and also a long pier and float for fishing. The views from the seaside loop around the park are gorgeous. Schoodic Head the highest point on the peninsula offers panoramic views east, west, north and south. At the southern most tip of the park is Schoodic Points expansive ledges that reach down into the sea with the waves breaking against them

And finally there is the Bar Harbor-Winter Harbor Ferry making daylight runs every hour back and forth during the tourist season. Combined both legs of the trip are a 14 mile leisurely 1 hour trip

Hope you enjoy yourself wherever you end up!

Guest access
You have complete access to the grounds.
The laundry is shared. Open Monday to Friday 6:30am to 9pm

Other things to note
PLEASE: Look at the picture of the bathroom, it is narrower than normal. I am 5'10" and I am embarrassed to say I have weighed as much as 210 lbs and it has been alright for me but it may not be suitable for you.

From the last week in June thru the 1st week in September rentals are 6-7 nights that must be scheduled between a possible arrival on Sunday and departure the following Sunday.

This apartment is one of two in the building. We live on the property also and have been renting these two apartments both residential and seasonal for over to 30 years now.

7/10's mile to Main st and the ocean.
1 Mile to the park

The internet is DSL and up to 10Mbps which is "normally" enough to watch a hi-def movie while someone else is also using the internet.
***Someone has reported problems working "at home" so I'd rather you not try to do a working vacation here. Thanks.
