About This Listing
Your private room is located in one of the best neighborhoods in Chicago. We are located in Bucktown and are a 15 minute walk (one el stop away) from both Wicker Park and Logan Square. Enjoy a true Chicago experience.
Your comfortable, private room is located in the first floor apartment of our private home. We use the first floor as a freelance graphic design office. Your bedroom is one of two rooms we offer on airbnb (the other room is https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4667333?s=-FGw). The room is always completely private, and the rest of the apartment is for your use as well. The office space is generally in use during business hours, but we use it during nights and weekends since I use the space to oil paint as well.
The room has a queen size futon bed, lighting for reading, a computer for staying connected and streaming movies, a closet for storage, and a full-length mirror. It's a small room, but has everything you need.
The unit has a separate entrance for the rest of the house, so you can come and go with privacy. You have access to the unit which includes a kitchen, bath, dining area, reading area, and WiFi. You will also be able to relax in our back yard garden with a patio, canopy, grill, comfortable seating, and lighting.
Interaction with Guests
This is a working office during the days, so there will be phones ringing, music playing, and keyboards clicking during office hours. Once in a while we do have meetings here as well.
We want to give you as much privacy as possible, but we will be available to give you any tips and assistance with your stay in Chicago. Also, there may be other guest staying in the other room. Please respect their stay as well.
Bucktown and Wicker Park are really fun neighborhoods to visit. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, bar, coffee shops, and clubs. There is a free pool a block away.
We're close to major interstates, and have plenty of parking (not all of Chicago can say that). We're a 10 minute walk to the el (blue line) and a 10 minute ride from there. There are also rental bike nearby that can be checked out and returned all over Chicago.
Other Things to Note
No pets, no smoking.
Carrie & Brad were perfect hosts, the room and restroom were clean and comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and well located between the city center and airport. Me and my wife strongly recommend their place to stay in Chicago
Quiet street and fine to lay your head after exploring all day. Bucktown/Logan Square/Wicker Park is way more interesting than staying in an area populated by hotels. Amazing coffee shops nearby. Three block walk to the train, the blue line straight from O'Hare. I only met Brad briefly, but he was nice. There were some ants in the bathroom, which was obviously not good, but hopefully they'll take care of that... the room is in the lower level/basement, though. I was barely there, so I didn't care much.
The neighborhood was great! I really recommend staying in Bucktown. There were good restaurants nearby and it was easy to get to downtown by train. The room was quite small but nice and clean. There were some ants in the bathroom but we didn’t mind, they were small ones and didn’t do any harm. However, some people might be bothered. Overall, we had a great stay!
First and foremost, I'd like to say we never met Carrie and Brad; but they were quick to respond to all emails. And came across as a very nice couple. I apologize for not writing a review in an expeditious manner; but I wanted to find a delicate way to express my concerns. This was not my first time utilizing Airbnb. However, this was my first time experiencing a property where the owners were on site. My previous experiences have been in renting the entire property. And thus far, any property I've rented in the past had far exceeded my expectations. As a treat, I had decided to bring my sister along. It was my hopes that she would enjoy lodging in a new and unconventional way. In selecting the "Bucktown" property, we used the pictures/reviews as a determining factor in choosing a property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a chalk board; that stated that; "there were ants, and the problem was being dealt with". (I felt like, I should have been contacted, and told about the situation and asked if we wanted to retain our reservations). It was quite obvious, that this problem hadn't just begun; due to the ant carcasses on the bathroom floor, and in the tub. Thank goodness for having water shoes with, I would never have gotten in the shower any other way. The pictures posted on the Airbnb site, appeared to be pics from when the property was new and fresh and originally posted. The apartment was worn, the throw pillows and area rugs were soiled, the kitchen was dirty, the floors were dirty and not mopped, there were unclean dishes in the sink, and all the garbage cans had not been emptied, the beautiful stainless steel appliances were dirty and the refrigerator had old carrots, milk and other food particles stored in it. We put paper towels on the shelf, in order to store our restaurant food. (Imagine if we wanted to prepare a meal?) It's apparent that this space rents out at a high volume. It's my belief, that you must put back into an investment property what you get out of it financially ( i.e. new linens, bedding, area rugs, throw pillows) etc, in order to continue to maintain a high volume of business/clients. Perhaps a cleaning service might be in order (if the property can't be maintained by the owners). Also, there is no sound barrier/insulation between the owners property and the Airbnb rental. Check out on Sunday was at 12 (noon). We tried to sleep in, but was awakened at or around 07:45ish by jumping, thumping and sounds of furniture being dragged about. I was aware there were children, but not at that noise level. We left earlier than anticipated, silence was not an option. The experience was a little disheartening. I paid for two rooms for one night. With housekeeping improvements, we believe there is potential. Best wishes...
We had a nice stay at Carrie & Brad's Bucktown home. The apartment is located in a fantastic neighbourhood, within a short walk of the L-Train. Carrie & Brad are friendly and were kind enough to let us leave our bags at the house after checking out. Thanks for making our trip to Chicago a pleasant experience!
This was my first airbnb experience and it was pleasant. I didn't have any trouble. Brad and Carrie were so nice giving us directions around town. The location is convenient to get to the train and bus stop. Not hard to find at all.

About the Host, Carrie & Brad
Hi, we are Brad Miller and Carrie Hood. We live in Chicago with our three children. After having such great times traveling with AirBnB to San Francisco and Michigan, we're inspired to try it ourselves. We are excited to host guests and share this great city with travelers.
We rehabbed the bottom unit of our house as a rental unit, but currently use it to run a design business. Our out of town guests stay in that unit, so it's perfect for AirBnB. We're excited to get the best us of our guest space.
It will be a pleasure to share our home that we love.
