  • Fabulous place Dalkey and the house is in a great location. We stayed four nights with our small dog. This house is perfect for long walks around Dalkey, really close to the many lovely restaurants, pubs and cafe, as well as round the corner from the train station for trip into Dublin. Although this is airbnb no breakfast is provided.
Paul is a welcoming host with a lovely family, and really helpful suggesting places to go. Would def recommend.

  • The place was very nice. Had a great time in Dalkey. Paul was very friendly and so was everyone else we met in town. Definitely would stay there again.

    March 2014
  • It was great, though a bit cold and smelt a bit moldy it the back room. Otherwise it was very nice, would love to go back again.

    Thank you Paul

    Response from Paul:

In the back room, we have replaced the old window with a new double glazed uPvc bay window and repainted the walls,
Also the radiator heating the room had a 'air lock' stoping it from heating correctly , this has now being repaired.
The Bedroom is now cosy & warm again.

  • The previous reviews really say it all: The Lodge was a wonderful place to stay, and Paul and Geraldine were great hosts. We stayed for 10 days with our children, ages 1 and 3. Paul picked us up from the Air Coach stop and had milk, bread, cereal, butter, and coffee waiting for us -- which was greatly appreciated after traveling 20 hours from the States. The Lodge has every amenity you can imagine, and Paul even arranged for us to have a travel cot (crib), push buggy (stroller), and books for our kids.

The house is small (1 bedroom and a trundle bed in the living room), but it was perfect for our family of four. The 3 year old got the bedroom (with black out curtains), the 1 year old slept in the travel cot in the laundry room, and we slept in living room. But everyone fit just fine. There is no bath tub (just a shower), but 3 year old got used to showers and the 1 year old bathed in the kitchen sink.

Killenny Hill Park is an easy walk up the hill, and it was one of our favorite spots in Ireland. It has a great kids' playground with a zipline and birds' nest swing. And easy hiking trails with a 360 view of the Dublin area, Dublin Bay, and Irish Sea. While you're in the area, also check out the Bray Cliff Walk.

Dalkey has a great food/pub scene with bakeries, restaurants, and butcher shops so you'll also eat well!

  • Our stay at The Lodge was everything we expected and more! Paul and Geraldine are lovely hosts who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They even drove us around the town, showing us all of their favorite spots (and some of mine). One evening, we sat outside and shared a bottle of wine and talked about life in Ireland. It was a perfect introduction to Dalkey.

The house is equipped with everything one needs. A comfortable bed, towel heaters and A great hairdryer!! Washer / Dryer.. extra blankets to keep warm on chilly nights. The list goes on and on. We enjoyed ourselves very much and would recommend "The Lodge" to anyone wanting an authentic travel experience.

  • We loved the lodge in Dalkey. Paul was welcoming, checked in with us on a daily basis to see how things were going and if we needed anything such as tips for places to eat and shop or things to do. The accommodations were lovely. Nice kitchen and cozy bedroom. The washing machine worked well too.

We really loved the town of Dalkey. The lodge is a gem and we would love to go back soon. Thanks Paul for a wonderful stay.

  • Paul and Ger were very gracious hosts. They picked us upat Fizpatrick's Castle early in the morning we arrived and offered to do the same as we left. We enjoyed a drink with them and got to know the family. The apartment is compact, with a sizable eat-in kitchen separating the two rooms, which leaves plenty of privacy. A couple with two children can fit comfortably. Above all, the location is fantastic: less than 5 minutes walk from charming Dlakey Village and the DART station (25 minutes to center city) and within easy walking distance of the Vico Road and Killiney Hill.

  • Paul was a generous and funny host to my family (with two kids, 5 and 7). I wish we'd had more time to sit and chat with him and his wife Geraldine, but we were there for a family wedding and rushing off to event after event. This is one of those above and beyond places, I think. The apartment is lovely - perfect for families because the bedroom & the lounge (w beds) are separated by a great deal of space. Strangely, the pictures seem to make it look smaller than it is. Don't be fooled. There are two bathrooms (one with shower) - also useful. Kids were very happy with their beds and the main bedroom was lovely. Curtains definitely blackout all the light, perfect for the jetlagged. Everything very clean and convenient - LOTS of space. Fabulous hairdryer, better than the one i have at home, made my life easier ( i was there for a wedding). Cat & Dog were both very welcoming - my kids are not dog people and they loved Bono, the Scottie (I think) who was quite a gentleman (no barking, no jumping, just charming). The cat visited to inspect us and joined us when we sat at the cafe table outside the front door. The kitchen is lovely and fully kitted out with all the gear you could need. There are bikes which was exciting though we didn't use them. Did laundry and had miraculous dublin weather which meant we even dried it outdoors. And the DART line (brilliant, cheap, coastal commuter type line) is ridiculously close making Dublin (and/or seaside towns of Bray & Dun Laoghaire) as easy as could be. Dalkey village high street (5-10 min walk) itself is lovely if costly and just a bit twee. Groceries easily available in a fancy SPAR market or even fancier purveyors in Dalkey village. We enjoyed icecream and coffees at MUGS, and drinks in Finnegan's pub, and treats from the bakery. There is also a public library. Families must check out the amazing park on Killiney Hill, complete with fantastic view of Dublin Bay for parents not into the zip line and climbing opportunities. After dark it was a great place to contemplate the existence of witches and ghosts. Last word about Paul. Not only did he pick us up from the airport bus drop off, and take us back there after our stay, he also dropped us off for the wedding...and came BACK after we forgot a tiny sweater that was part of someone's wedding gear.... Again - wish we had more time, for Ireland and this lovely apartment. Recommended!

  • We stayed at "The Lodge" with our two young daughters in June 2013. We really enjoyed the warm welcome from Paul and Geraldine. The place is very well located. In 5 minutes walk, you can reach the train station or Dalkey's hearth. We will definitely book again for our next trip to Dublin.
