Available to let either as an entire house or a single private room (hosted by the owner).
Lough Anna Cottage is situated 2km from Glenties, which is east of Ardara and north of Donegal town. This traditional stone-built cottage is about 200 years old. It is in good condition with reasonably spacious and comfortable rooms. It has one medium sized bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two bunk beds, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room with a working fireplace. There is the possibility of an additional bed which can be made up in the room with the bunk beds.
The cottage is fully furnished and the kitchen has a large and good quality gas/electric cooker, table, chairs etc. There is also a washing machine, but no television and no tumble dryer. Washing is generally dried on the line outside or on an inside dryer rack in bad weather. Both wood and turf are supplied for use in the living room fire place. The house also has a good oil-fired central heating system. All household linen and cleaning is included in the price. It is set in about an acre and a half of woodland and meadows with its own private drive and parking space. There are two friendly cats, who live both inside and out. If people prefer, they can remain outside for the entire duration of their stay.
For a single room only (sleeps two or three with additional bed made up) - €45/night plus €15 supplement for 3rd person. Full irish or light/continental breakfast included.
For the entire cottage - €80/night. Will sleep up to 5 persons. Self catering only.
For both options, an evening meal can be provided on arrival by request - €12 per person.
Our stay at the Lough Anna Cottage was wonderful, and we were surprised and touched at how welcome Allaye made us feel as her guests. Arriving after dusk, we were welcomed by Allaye and her friend with chairs by the crackling hearth fire and beverages to keep the night chill away. In the morning Allaye cooked us a delicious homemade breakfast displaying her excellent skills as both a baker and a chef. The cottage itself is lovely, 200 years old and bursting with charm and character. If you are looking for a place to relax and recuperate in County Donegal, then this is that place, as opportunities to explore Ireland's wild hills, majestic coasts, and hidden lakes are as close as a step out the front door or as far away as a few minutes drive. Our only regret is that we stayed here for just one night. If given the chance to stay again we would, and in a heartbeat!
Allaye was very friendly and considerate. She made a large fire to welcome us! - which my son loved. I'm allergic to cats but Allaye went out of her way to clean the place well and put the cats outside for the evening. My allergy did not bother me at all! Much thanks Allaye.
WE loved our stay with Allaye. She was warm and welcoming and went out of her way to help us with laundry etc. Breakfast and the dinner she cooked were excellent and it was very fun to sit and chat with her.
The weather during our visit was pretty bad but she had good suggestions for things to do.
The house was small, but we expected that.
You need to follow her suggestion to arrive during daylight hours. WOuld be hard to find in the dark!
We stayed at Lough Anna cottage for one night & found it very easily by following Allaye's wonderfully descriptive instructions. It is nestled away in the most beautiful scenery. We only had one night but we wish it could have been longer, there are two cats but we are cat lovers so it was not a problem. I would highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a restful retreat away from all the hustle & bustle of city life. Just lovely.
The reservation was canceled 85 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We had a great stay with Allaye for our New Year. She has a very cute and charming cottage. We were welcomed with tea, winter-punch and homemade tarte. She lit the fire for us, made delicious breakfast, and was very helpful!!! Also met her two very interesting and great children... We will come back in the summer time- thank you a lot!
That was a very nice stay in Allaye's house. We got lucky to meet her sons and we had very interesting talks. I will keep in touch with Allaye next time I travel to Ireland. Sean, Jaya and Samé from France.
Une seule nuit passée dans le cottage. Allaye parle trés bien le francais ce qui est appreciable. Nous avons pu allumer la cheminée. Cottage tres propre. Accueil chaleureux
I just asked my daughter what she liked the most during our trip and she said "the little house in the woods." (well, she first had said, tonight ice cream but that doesn't count. ) we had a lovely time at Allaye's cottage. it was peaceful, a charming and soulful place. Very clean and comfortable. Allaye gave us great tips on local places we could visit. And she is a fabulous baker, she even gave us some delicious scones for the road. I totally recommend her place as a base to explore this gorgeous region.
