Ideally located along the Wild Atlantic Way, and within easy reach of Sliabh Liag (Europe's highest sea cliffs), Lough Anna Cottage is available to let either as an entire house or a single private room (hosted by the owner).
Situated 2km from Glenties, which is east of Ardara and north of Donegal town, this traditional stone-built cottage is about 200 years old. It is in good condition with reasonably spacious and comfortable rooms. It has one medium sized bedroom with a double bed and one bedroom with two bunk beds, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room with a working fireplace. There is the possibility of an additional bed which can be made up in the room with the bunk beds.
The cottage is fully furnished and the kitchen has a large and good quality gas/electric cooker, table, chairs etc. There is also a washing machine, but no television and no tumble dryer. Washing is generally dried on the line outside or on an inside dryer rack in bad weather. Both wood and turf are supplied for use in the living room fire place. The house also has a good oil-fired central heating system. All household linen and cleaning is included in the price. It is set in about an acre and a half of woodland and meadows with its own private drive and parking space. There are two friendly cats, who live both inside and out. If people prefer, they can remain outside for the entire duration of their stay.
For a single room only (sleeps two or three with additional bed made up) - €45/night plus €15 supplement for 3rd person. Full irish or light/continental breakfast included.
For the entire cottage - €90 for one night, €80 per night for two or more nights. Will sleep up to 5 persons. Self catering only.
For both options, an evening meal can be provided on arrival by request - €12 per person.
Guests have access to all areas of the house and garden.
Interaction with Guests
I live in a secluded and private location with complete tranquility, yet am surrounded by very caring and helpful neighbours. This sort of sums up Donegal : peace where you want it and help when needed. Add to this the stunning coast line and mountains, walking opportunities and great wealth of traditional music, the pubs and their people and you have a place I call home. - a little slice of heaven.
Public transport in the immediate area is a little limited. Buses from Dublin and Dublin airport are very regular, but most go as far as Donegal Town which is 35km from Glenties. I occasionally give lifts to people who have come without a car, but most come here by car.
Smokers welcome as long as they refrain from smoking indoors. House should be left reasonably clean and tidy, given that there is no cleaning charge.
Please be aware that there are two resident cats.
Allaye's warm welcome, the beautiful cottage amidst impressive scenery and her recommendations about what to do in the area made our stay in Donegal perfect. Any time again.
Allaye was a very kind and welcoming hostess who provided us with a very comfortable stay. Her cottage is very quaint with a beautiful outlook and the smell of home baking throughout. We had a lovely stay.
Allaye's warm welcome, lovely breakfast, the very nice cottage and meadow, made our stay in Donegal a beautiful experience! And it is always sunny too in the meadow!!!
Allaye was a great host. Met us with freshly baked bread and armed with a wealth of information about the local tourist spots (including the tip about parking in the 'second' car park at the Slieve League cliffs!). Beautiful cottage in amazing surroundings. Would definitely like to return. Thanks Allaye!
We really enjoyed our short stay! Allaye and her partner received us with tea and muffins in front of a fire in the fireplace. They were very welcoming and warm, giving us a lot of ideas what to visit in county Donegal. The cottage is cosy, idyllic and clean. We also got a great breakfast with Allaye's housemade bread.
Allaye was a great host! It was lovely to stay at this beautiful place! We felt comfortable and home. Totally recommend her as a host.
cheers Julia and Marc
