Wonderful stay at Pepe's Place, which is more Franklin's Place actually. Simple cabin located just across the beach. Very well located: close to town (5 min walk) but not too much, very quiet (except for the waves sound :-) ). Horse ride with Franklin is a must!! Will stay in our memory for a long time, forever I guess. Thanks Franklin, very nice meeting you.
Pepe's place is a great place (with history!) for an authentic local experience in Costa-Rica! Franklin is a great host, very interesting, calm and cool! He welcomed us with a delicious fruit we have never tried before - guanabana! He also offered us a beer, that was so pleasant to drink on the cabin's terrasse. The cabin is very rustic, but provided with everything necessary, and is just in front of the sea! Franklin's dog Mitsy is also very lovely! The last day surprise - we 've seen a sloth female with a baby just near the cabin! Cahuita village and national parc, and all caribean coast are soo soo great!!!
Staying with Franklin at Pepes Place was the perfect spot to rest our feet, enjoy the sounds of the waves and watch a sloth or two. He greeted us with kindness, helped us with our Spansish and treated us to delicious guanabana from his yard. I will be certainly be reuting to saying hello to Franklin.
Simple but nice place near the beach. Franklin was a very kind host. We stayed 2 nights there.
What a magical place - Pepe's Place. Franklin and his beautiful pooch Mitzy, made our stay a welcoming and a wonderfully memorable experience. The cottage is exactly as you see in the photos. Very simple, yet charming. Hot water for showers, a working stove and a small fridge (akin to a bar fridge), a double-sized bed and a wardrobe. When we weren't at the beach, in town or at the national park we'd spend time just relaxing on the porch, listening to the ocean across the street and checking out all of the awesome wildlife and flora in the front yard. We saw - or heard - all manner of wildlife including geckos, hummingbirds, a "Woody" Woodpecker and an iguana or two. On our second night we were visited by a female Sloth and her baby (tucked away on mom's tummy) - the mother was moving slowly along the hydro line that runs down the road. Franklin is a fount of knowledge regarding the area, from the best places to pick up groceries and the best restaurants to eat at, to the medicinal properties of some local plants (the "noni" fruit and leaves; there's a noni tree just across the street). A generous and kind host, Franklin shared some fruit growing on the property (a Guanabana), and he even bought us some fresh chilled coconut water (so g(phone number hidden)d!). And, he even took the time to saddle up three of his beautiful horses for a long morning ride. The "downtown" area of Cahuita is just a small walk away. There's a gorgeous black-sand beach (Playa Negra) just a 5 minute walk down the road, and a stunning white sand beach at the other end of town (about a 15 minute walk), beginning at the entrance to Cahuita National Park. Truly, Franklin is so extremely generous, kind and a genuine, beautiful soul. We are already planning our return.
James, now Franklin, was very accommodating and fun to be around. Excellent english and very educated. If he knows you know a bit of spanish, you'll be 'encouraged' to use it. Fun time! :-) Very good at suggestions and taking care of anything we needed. The cottage was steps from his place so an open back door was a signal that we were home. Enjoyed all the get togethers we had and hope our paths cross again and maybe often. You added to a fun trip and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time at you place.
Location was great for getting to town, beaches and the Park. My favorite place so far!
Our stay with Franklin delightful! He's a very hospitable person who is genuinely curious about his guests. He brought us fish to cook, fresh coconuts and introduced us to new delicious fruits that were growing right there on his property. The cabin is located right across from the road from the beach, as well as an amazing but semi pricey restaurant (highly recommended). The cabin itself was small, rustic and cute. All that we needed. We saw many lizards running around the place but that's pretty normal in the jungle. I definitely wish I got to spend more time getting to know Franklin. I would absolutely come back and stay, just based off his company alone. Overall, beautiful lush property, mellow vibes and a very welcoming experience. I miss it already!!
