Sylvester was a true host. He met me at the train station and helped me find the way to the course I was doing in Munich. He was easily contactable, friendly and helpful.
Overall the house that Sylvester offered us was quite fine, but there were just a few things about it that kept it from being great.
Pros: House was warm, comfortable, and the rooms were plenty spacious.
Cons: - The first thing that took us by surprise was the 80eur key deposit that Sylvester demanded upon arrial. There was no mention of it beforehand, neither in the description nor in the conversations leading up to our stay there. As young frugal travelers without much money to begin with, we were lucky to have even that much spare cash on hand.
- We found the shower to be of an impossibly stupid design. It is not possible to use that shower without sitting down on a tiny window ledge in the tub. My sister is quite small, 5 ft 2 in (155cm), and even she could not stand in the shower without hitting her head on the ceiling!
- No dining area, no table, no place to sit (or even stand) to eat. We had to make our meals in the kitchen and then bring them onto one of the beds to eat. Drinks were usually placed on the floor beside the bed.
- We found it strange that one of the rooms was being rented out long-term to someone else, although he was quite pleasant and it was never a problem.
Sylvester's a great host and his apartment is at a central location. I'll definitely stay there again if I go back to Munich.
Sylvester is a really friendly man and he can to collect us from the HBF and actually offered us a different room in his other house for me and my boyfriend to have extra space. The other house was near the olympic park and quite convenient to get the the city in about 10-15 mins via the nearby tram stop. The house itself was beautiful with high ceilings and polished floorboards, and the room we stayed in could have accommodated 8 people- with a cool library design- bookshelves placed on different levels so that there were 2 beds halfway up the wall and 2 large beds in a loft style. It was a really spacious place that I'm guessing would have lots of people during octoberfest. We also did clothes washing which was about 4 euro per wash/ 4 euro per dry. If you plan to use the kitchen get instructions for the ultra modern stove first! A really cool place (but a different house than in this ad). Highly recommended!
I liked Sylvester's place as it is close to the tumult bar where I had a great party during the Oktoberfest ! Then I was happy to be back there...
Hopefully that Sylvester is a nice and wise man because I was not organised at all when I arrived..but he helped me anyway !
Will go back there next time !
I did not like this place: when I arrived the room was dirty (I had to sort and clean myself), there is no real kitchen, no livingroom, it is impossible to stand in the shower (if you measure 1.40 you gonna hit you in the roof! unusual), there is no privacy in the bathroom, the heaters do not work well (I was in winter). No confortable furnitures (chairs, tables, etc...).
The only good thing: it is very well located. Close to Poccistrasse U-bahn, markets and laundry rooms.
Me and my friend go to Munich for the Oktoberfest 2012. Sylvester's flat is very close to the fair. And it is in central, we are easily to travel around the city centre! If anybody want to be a part of the Oktoberfest in the future, Sylvester's room would be a nice one to choose.
