Thoughtfully designed two-bedroom apartment located above a former millinery shop built in 1880. Beautiful natural light. Mix of vintage and modern amenities, including two guest bedrooms, full kitchen and bath, high speed wifi, onsite laundry and work desk. Private tree-shaded back porch overlooking Kinderhook Creek and Pachaquack Preserve. 20 minutes to Hudson. 30 minutes to Albany, the Berkshires and the Catskills.

The space
An effortless upstate getaway combining modern convenience and vintage charm. Perfect for two couples, a small group of friends, or a live-work home base in the Historic Hudson Valley.

Includes two guest bedrooms—one king, one queen. Full bath. High speed wifi. Apple TV. AC throughout. Calphalon cutlery and cookware. Linens and necessities. Private tree-shaded back porch overlooking Kinderhook Creek and Pachaquack Preserve.

Centrally located on Valatie's Main Street with all of the village's amenities within a 2-minute walk—restaurants, antique shops, bookstore, pilates studio, wine shop, library.

Easy access for tubing, fly fishing and swimming in the creek—entering through Pachaquack Preserve. (Please note that we don't provide kayaks, tubes or other outdoor gear, so it's best to bring your own)

We're right next door to the Main Street Diner, one of the best diners in Columbia County. They open at 6, close at 9. We eat there at least 3 times a week. They're like family to us.

You can park in the free municipal parking lot directly across from the house.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a second floor apartment up a flight of stairs, in case anyone in your party has mobility issues.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire second floor apartment and private back porch off.

Guests can access the creek for tubing, kayaking, swimming and fishing through Pachaquack Preserve—a 5 minute walk from the house. Access to the creek is not allowed through our private backyard. (Please note that we don't provide kayaks, tubes or other outdoor gear, so it's best to bring your own)

We have electronic keypad locks on all the doors, which makes it easy for checking in and out—and there's always someone to reach out to by cell or text if you need anything.

Other things to note
Discount weekly & monthly rates available.

On-site laundry.

GUESTS TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN: Due to our collection of artwork, antiques and furnishings, we've opted for a no child policy. We love children, but the apartment is not baby-proofed or set up for kids. That said, we have made concessions for guests traveling with mature children and babies in the past. We are completely open to working with you to see if the apartment is a good fit.

Valatie, New York, United States

Warm and welcoming, Valatie is one of the nation's first self-sustaining industrial villages—now a tightly knit community of small businesses, creative professionals and craftspeople. Pronounced “Va-lay-sha,” a Dutch word meaning “little falls,” Valatie is named after the three beautiful waterfalls that surround it.

The tranquil Kinderhook Creek bisects the village and is a favorite swimming hole and tubing destination—as well as a Blue Ribbon trout fishing waterway reminiscent of the shallow, meandering rivers of Montana's big sky country.

Prior to the Dutch settling the area in the 17th century, Valatie served as as a spiritual meeting place for the region’s nomadic Mohican tribes whose ancient footpaths are still walkable today along Pachaquack Preserve, a 5 minute walk from the house.

Proud of its diverse history, Valatie is central to many of the Hudson Valley's landmark destinations. The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, Luycas Van Alen House, Edna St. Vincent Millay's Steepletop, Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse and the Benedict Arnold House are all within a quick drive—as well as cultural destinations like the Jack Shainman Gallery: The School, Art OMI, the Shaker Museum at Mount Lebanon and the Won Dharma Center.

A popular antiquing destination, Valatie is located just 20 minutes north of Hudson's thriving restaurant and cultural scene—and just 10 minutes away from Chatham's beautifully redeveloped downtown with a weekend's worth of shops, bookstores, bakeries, breweries and culinary restaurants—not to mention a vintage art house movie theater, the Crandell Theatre.

Valatie makes for the perfect launch point for easy day trips to the Catskills, the Berkshires, Woodstock, Saugerties, Vermont, Lake George, the Adirondacks and Albany's Capitol District (including Troy's bourgeoning creative scene).
