Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Within 25 minutes of Burlington and 75 minutes of Montreal, you will find our airy and sunny home with a friendly vibe. We are a liberal couple that shares a love of diversity. Therese works from home as an accountant. She is also a fiction writer. Tom is an engineer with a passion for cycling and home brewing. We love meeting new people from varying backgrounds.

Our home is a tobacco and vape-free zone. For those that suffer from allergies, our home is also pet free.

The space
We are located 7 miles from St. Albans, which boasts three great restaurants, 2 breweries, and a lovely park. Hard'ack Recreational Area is 7.5 miles away, with trails for biking and winter sports. St. Albans also connects to the Rail Trail for biking, walking, and cross-country skiing. We are only 24 miles from Burlington (with 10 breweries) and 75 miles from Montreal. We are surrounded by back roads, perfect for cycling and walking. (Bike mechanic on the premises!) Lake Champlain is a few minutes' drive away for kayaking and swimming. In the fall, the local area is filled with Farmers Markets, apple picking, and leaf-peeping galore! For winter guests, we have cross-country skiing and snowshoeing right outside the door, with the VAST trails within walking distance. Smuggler's Notch is 40 minutes away for skiing and boarding. Our large deck is the perfect spot for stargazing. It is a quiet "neighborhood" of dirt roads and plenty of space.

The pictures show a small couch in the room. However, if you are a writer and are here for a retreat, we have a desk that will be swapped out for the couch, so that your time here can be spent at your craft. With a writer in residence, there is also the opportunity to discuss writing in general, or your work in particular.

While we do have a 4-night maximum stay, if you contact us through the reservation process and explain why you might require further nights, we can discuss.

Guest access
We love visiting with our guests over a glass of homebrew. Our shared space is comfortable and inviting. There will always be tea and coffee available. We are currently in the process of making our lower-level home gym available to guests. (Light weights, treadmill, and elliptical)

Other things to note
We will provide coffee, tea, and a light breakfast (toast, pastries, cereal.) Therese is gluten-free by choice and can accommodate a guest who prefers that, too, if you let her know.

This is a very rural area with neighbors visible but nicely separated by acres of fields. We live on a dirt road perfect for an early morning walk or evening stroll.

During your stay
One of us will always be at the house during your visit. We love interacting with others, but if you so choose, we can also be hands-off and let you relax in peace and quiet. Our home is definitely not "baby-proof" but we have had a couple of guests who brought young children, and with supervision, they have had a wonderful time interacting with us as much as we did with them. We have only the one king-sized bed, but they seemed to make it work.
