The Atacama desert is unbelievably beautiful. Lokals do not have an easy life there due to difficult weather conditions. We stayed among the local people. The accomodation was very basic, on the other side, it was spacy, the bed was comfortable, water running. We quickly adapted and enjoyed our stay.
We arrived to a great disappointment. The place was not as shown in the listing. As others have said Alejandra was most helpful before arrival, but we couldn't stay and ended up finding alternative accommodation. This is basically a shack stuck out on the outskirts of the town. It was also not very clean. Not even any toilet paper or clean soap was left for us. You can do much better in the town.
The reservation was canceled 48 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The beds are made from old wooden pallets, the "furniture" on the "balcony" is also made from old wooden pallets, there was no hot wáter. The place is tiny and has the distinct feel of having been knocked together with spare ítems lying around the yard over a weekend by a couple of school kids - it is not a proper house/cabin. Don't bother even thinking about it - find one of the hundreds of comfortable rooms in a hostel for the same price or less (which is what some of our party chose to do).
In summary - awful!!!
The cabin was in a great location - only a few minutes from the center of town. It was hard to find so make sure you get good directions and definitely bring a flashlight to navigate down the dirt road at night and early in the morning. Our hosts lived in the cabin next door so that made us feel safer in case something went wrong. The hot water heater was a little hard to use but our hosts next door were very nice and helped us when we got stuck. The cabin was moderately clean but in my opinion, it was definitely worth the cost considering other hotels in San Pedro are so expensive. Overall it was a good experience.
Alejandra was a super host. We were lucky to be staying there while she was also in town leading some tours. Alejandra is very friendly and super helpful. She gave us tips about things to see and do, and even made sure we had a thermos of hot water for tea ready to go on one of our early mornings.
Make sure you understand the directions to the place before hand as roads are small and unmarked and dirt, but this is par for the course. We didn't have any trouble.
This is not a super fancy hotel accomodation, but that's not what you're paying for. For us it was a great place to catch some sleep before spending all of our time out and about.

About the Host, Alejandra Werlinger
I am an outdoor person living at the moment in San Pedro because of my job. I own a tour operator this is the reason why I came to this nice town to live. I do all the supervising operation here.
Now I do have some apartments in Santiago which I run with my business partner, providing not only accommodations but all the services a guest may need as a foreigner in our country.
I travel from San Pedro to Santiago so we might meet either in San Pedro or Santiago.
