The Space

This house was built as the office of the Islander Newspaper in 1847. The house has been very sensitively restored and is furnished with Prince Edward Island and Canadian Art and Antiques. The house is in downtown Charlottetown. It is on the corner of Great George Street and Water Street. The house is in the 2014 Celebration Zone. This is the year the Island is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the meetings of the fathers of Confederation that led to the birth of Canada. It is close to all the restaurants, theatres, bars, coffee shops and shopping in the city. There are restaurants and bars in the area. There is a lot of activity in the area with restaurants, night life, theatre, and music. The house is also on the Charlottetown waterfront and close to the Yacht Club and Confederation Landing Park and the new Convention Centre.
The house has hardwood floors throughout with persian carpets and antique Prince Edward Island hooked mats. The first floor consists of a living room, dining room and small study. There is a fully equipped eat in kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, and dishwasher. There is a half bath off the kitchen with a washer and dryer. There is a fenced, private backyard and garden with a BBQ and outdoor table and chairs.
The second story has a full bath with a large original cast iron claw foot tub and sink. There is a brass rainfall shower in the tub. There are 2 bedrooms each with queen size mattresses. The third smaller bedroom has a double bed. There is a third floor attic space that has 4 small single beds that is a nice play area for children.

The Neighborhood

This is in downtown Charlottetown just doors away from the Delta Prince Edward Hotel and the Convention Centre. It is walking distance to all the restaurants, nightclubs and theatres in downtown Charlottetown. The house is on corner of Water Street and Great George Street - "One of Canada's Great Streets."

Getting around

There is a bus stop on Water Street across from the house. The Hop on Hop off bus also has a stop in front of the house. The house is also on all the horse and carriage, bus, and walking tours of Charlottetown.

  • My husband and myself and 5 of our family members stayed at Don's place for 3 nights. It was the perfect spot for seniors and kids and everyone else because the house is within walking distance to restaurants, ice cream, the waterfront and bars. Brackley Beach was just a 20 minute drive away. The large kitchen and dining room enabled us to have meals and snacks together at home if we chose to. There was lots of space both in the house and the big back yard behind the house. It was a bit loud at night but we had our own small air conditioner in the room so we all slept well. Our bed and linens were very comfortable. Don was a great host before and during our stay. He gave us some good restaurant recommendations and tips about the town. Everyone was very happy with the house and we had a wonderful family vacation. We would not hesitate to return. Thank you!

  • Great host. Lovely house - really beautiful, comfy beds, nice common area, and very central downtown location. Just a bit noisy late night with people coming home from the bar - noisy drunk people, just outside our window.

  • What a great stay! Don was more than hospitable and very knowledgeable about the area. You are located in a great part of town and everything is walking distance away. The accommodations were great and the beds were very comfy. We wish we could have stayed longer. I would recommend this place to anyone!

  • My wife and I loved having the cozy two-bedroom house at 100 and 1/2 Water Street all to ourselves for four days at the end of August this year --- it is located just a block from the wharf (lobsters, restaurants, shops), and within easy walking distance from the Confederation Center (theater), the Guild (more theater), a movie house, and lots of wonderful restaurants. We loved buying just-cooked lobsters from the wharf and taking them back home to eat on the back porch at half the price of restaurant fare!

Don was very friendly and helpful to us, answering all of our questions about where to eat and what to see in Charlottetown and in the national parks on the island. We followed his advice and were very pleased. We are recommending this place to several of our friends!

  • Don's place is fantastic. Right on the waterfront, easy walking distance of wonderful shops and restaurants. And Don is such a great host, providing lots of valuable info on where to find the best eats. He even helped a friend provide me with a birthday surprise since I was traveling over my birthday. Thanks so much, Don! It was a lovely stay.

  • If you are headed to PEI look no further. You will not find a better location and more comfortable accommodations, not to mention affordability. Our hosts were too kind - we received a warm welcome and (email hidden) to the area with things to do. The unit is completely independent and allows for a great deal of privacy. It is tastefully decorated and extremely spacious, with a beautifully landscaped fenced-in yard in the back. Easy drive to beaches, steps to best dining options in town and entertainment. The Water Street house is also a historic landmark of Charlottetown. When we first arrived at the address we noticed flocking tourists, who were out sightseeing, posing to take photos in front of this beautiful property. We had a wonderful stay and hope to be back - I recommend the Charlottetown Waterfront to anyone who wants to experience PEI at its best!
