The Workshop is set in 4ha of landscaped grounds on historic Kinloch Station overlooking the Jack Nicklaus 18-hole golf course and Lake Taupo. The B & B offers couples the chance to relax in tranquil rural surroundings close to the lake, golf, bush walks and mountain bike trails.
Dee's place was perfect, I could only stay overnight but i got there just in time for one of the best sunsets of the whole trip. The property is really something special, it overlooks a chunk of massive farmland with a west-facing ocean view as a backdrop. There is a vegetable garden on the property & scattered sheep grazing in the farm just in front of the property. Their guest house is detached from the main property and offers complete privacy. The breakfast was a nice touch as well.
After traveling exclusively on airBNB over the last 30 days throughout Aus and NZ I have to recommend this property as the best little secret out of all of them. The photos simply don't do it justice.
My only gripe was that the internet was a bit tempremental anywhere inside the guesthouse since it is a bit far from the router. When I sat outside, the connection was fine.
Quite possibly my favorite airbnb stay so far! Beautiful views, wonderful hosts. Everything about this place was perfect!
Dee made us very welcome. She left us our privacy but was always available to help. The property was very clean, modern and homely- great real views to the sea from the extensive garden. Lovely myo breakfast wa supplied.
Kinloch has 2 golf courses and a lovely waterfront. There are 2 mountain bike tracks along the shore. We loved being away from busy Taupo but within easy (15 mins) reach.
This property is really great!
The workshop is very well organised, clean, tidy and beautifully located, approx 20km from Taupo which suited us rather than being in town. The self-contained accommodation means we could arrive at a flexible time and make our own plans to come and go as we pleased. The view of the lake is very special and the local village of Kinloch on the lake is very pretty, perfect for treks around the lakes, swimming or water activities. Dee is a very friendly host and the breakfast provided was perfect for us.
Dee was the most wonderful host. She was incredibly easy going, welcoming and friendly. We almost felt as if we were part of the family. The Kinloch Station Workshop was beautiful and secluded. We had the most luxurious view over the farm, golf course and the lake in the distance. The Workshop was rustic and comfortable. A very comfortable bed, and a quant little sitting room that both have views out over the farm. This is a hidden, untouched gem. We're going to be recommending this to our close friends ( we don't want too many people finding out about this treasure) and will be back for another stay in the very near future. Thanks Dee.
Many thanks, Dee and Bruce for being such welcoming and considerate hosts.
The accommodation is clean, comfortable and everything works. If Dee’s around and is able to offer you an evening meal the only sensible answer is “yes please”, they we’re delicious. The property, and its scenic location are unique and conveniently situated for Kinloch and Taupo’s amenities. The view across the lake to the mountains beyond is captivatingly World Class. It is no coincidence that the Jack Nicholas golf course is building accommodation lower down the same hillside. (I suspect their room rates may be a touch higher.)
Dee and Bruce know the area and give good advice that’s worth listening to. The Thermal Spa at the Wairakei Terraces is a real treat and just along the road the quirky Thermal Valley tour is an inexpensive and engaging place to get up close to some steam vents and very hot mud. There are loads of well-marked local lakeside and bush tracks. Bruce can point you in the right direction. Kinloch Station is a great base from which to explore the New Zealand’s Central Plateau, which alas we had too little time to do properly. That said it means we have lots to go back for and would unhesitatingly book at Dee and Bruce’s place again.
Live at Kinloch Station . We love Taupo's relaxed way of life and the beautiful environment and make the most of the lake and the outdoors - boating, trout fishing, bushwalking,
lake picnics, water skiing, mountain biking
