My boyfriend and I stayed at Rancho Diandrew for 4 nights. We chose this lodging to avoid the commercial madness, and to experience a true Costa Rica. Andrew had mentioned you'd want to stop by the groceries before heading up the mountain to avoid another drive into town after a day of travel. I was nervous about driving up the mountain after sunset so we stopped and had diner in Uvita before we made our way up. We were told we needed a 4x4 so the drive up was smooth as well as finding the location! (Glad we rented a car even though it's a 10min drive the walk would be crazy to do to make your way in every day) When we arrived Juan, Andrews assistant gave us a tour of property, also made it very clear that if we needed any more towels or water witch is provided in the cabanita to just let them know at the big house. I'll be honest I looked out to the stunning view as the sun was setting, and back out our cabanita, and then thought now what?? I thought well there isn't any concierge to help us book tours this isn't any restaurant on the grounds to order or get food from for the following days!!!? What was I thinking, glamping??? I didn't even do enough homework and I'm usually traveling with daily itineraries. After we settled in we made our way to the big house where the wifi was available. There we got the opportunity to meet Andrew and some friends he was hosting. I told him about the potential tours I was interested in, including the waterfall tour he leads that I had read great reviews for(which we did do and I would recommend it to all) Andrews was great and extremely helpful with booking our tours since he knows the whole town!lol Juan joked he is like the mayor of the town! This experience was amazing being away from it all and at the same time only a 10 to 15 minute drive down the mountain into town, nearby beaches national parks, waterholes, restaurants and spas. By the end of it we felt like we were friends visiting as well. The last night we tagged along with Drew and his lovely friends and ate at a restaurant in town, then hung out at a bar where they had live music! Which wasn't too crazy I think there were winding it down around 11ish. So if you want more of the party seen Domincal has more of it from what I understood! Saturday morning we followed Drew to meet with some locals where my boyfriend had the best time joining in on their softball game which seems to take place every Saturday! Hey Drew thanks for all your help and for being an amazing host! We wish you the best in your endeavors! Ps Drew is also an amazing cook we would totally recommend you add meals with...
The Cabinas were very clean and spacious. Fan and a fridge were in perfect working order. It was really great using the open shower. There is a well equipped open kitchen next to the cabinas. It was fun living right next to/in the jungle. You can hear a lot of animals and there's virtually no one around. First thing in the morning is a fantastic view over the forest canopy to the ocean and last thing in the evening is an amazing starry sky. Andrew is a very nice host and was very helpful. I would recommend a car ( as Uvita is about 7km downhill) but if you like to be off the track for some days, this is the place to be!! We enjoyed our stay very much and would defintely come back!
