Enjoy our relaxing and charming lake from the comfort of this airy cottage. Located directly on the lake, the house features a full kitchen, bath, and two bedrooms. The large yard/shoreline is well-shaded with a fire pit, dock, and picnic table.
Need a relaxing getaway? Come and enjoy our beautiful lake! This cottage is located on the eastern cove of Loon Lake, under a shady canopy of trees. The 2 bedroom house has plenty of sleeping space, a full kitchen, bathroom (no tub, shower only), and a cozy living room.
The front door leads directly through the lawn to the dock, where we have the best fishing on the lake. There is a fire pit next to the water for nighttime chats, s'mores, and hot dogs.
You are welcome to use the kayaks, paddle boat, floating toys, etc. You may even use the cornhole boards, but prepare to be challenged by our neighbors!
This getaway is great for couples who want some time to relax, or for families with children. Children will enjoy swimming and boating, and there is a platform for jumping and diving in deeper water.
There are friendly neighbors on either side. We have a good mix of retired people, couples with children, people who live on the lake full-time, and people with weekend cabins. Plenty of parking, no cable, no internet (sorry, we like occasional technology seclusion). Phone service can be spotty.
The lake is near to Columbia City for groceries, as well as many other lakes. There is much in the area to explore, and several nearby geocaching points (including one by the boat launch we've never managed to find). There's a putt-putt center on the main highway for kids, or adults will enjoy frisbee golf, a tea room, and other nearby oddities.
Boats are welcome. They may be launched at the public launch not far from the cabin and docked on our pier.
There is ready parking available for two vehicles. Additional parking arrangements available upon request.
Outdoor amenities include kayaks, paddle-boat, gas grill, fire pit and wood, water toys, life vests, yard games, additional lawn furniture. Motor boat is strictly off-limits, but you may dock your own boat here.
Indoor amenities include coffeemaker, toaster, stove, microwave, fridge, cooking and eating utensils, linens, towels, window fans. Television is limited to over-the-air stations.
Interaction with Guests
Julie and Shane are readily available by phone/email/text, but will not be present during guests' stay.
Please note that there are neighbors nearby on both sides, but they are welcoming, helpful people (who enjoy fishing and cornhole if you care to ask).
This is really a lovely lake. The fishing is very good on our side of the lake, and you can do very well fishing directly off the dock. It is generally quiet, and there is a speed limit of 10 mph, except during 1-4PM which is "fast time". The lake is large enough for tubing/skiing and many people take advantage of these hours.
The neighbors are pleasant and helpful, generally retired, and live here full-time. There is a pretty even mix of summer homes and year-round homes on this lake.
The lake is a bit remote from the city, probably around 15-20 minutes south. Though once here, there is a selection of grocery, shopping, and food/dining options. There is a small grocery store/gas station very nearby for quick trips, including a deli and beer/alcohol (if not native to Indiana, note NO ALCOHOL SALES on Sunday).
Other Things to Note
Swimming and water play are allowed and encouraged.
There are no fences, and so children and pets often wander through yards. This is fine. Be aware that other children in the neighborhood are allowed to swim to and jump off of the platform anchored in front of the house. The parents will often come down and ask first, but don't be alarmed if they do not.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or problems!
Please respect the lake rules (no fast boating except 1-4 PM), along with the general atmosphere of the neighborhood which is fairly quiet.
No smoking in the house.
Pets must be approved and may require a deposit, but we've not had any issues with their staying in the house so far.
The cabin was beautiful. The view was amazing. Julie and Shane's cabin proved to be a much needed location for a weekend away
Julie and Shane have managed to keep the perfect balance of functionality and charm in this ideal lakefront cottage. For an active couple split between Cleveland and Chicago, we found our brief stay to be relaxing yet were able to pack all sorts of fun into two short days. From kayaking, swimming, bike riding and even local coffee shop and antique store visits in Columbia City we managed to feel like we were in our own little world every step of the way!
Simple, accommodating, comfortable and peaceful.
We were looking for a place to relax and that is just what we found, the cottage was comfortable in every sense of the word. We really enjoyed our stay!!!
We spent a fun couple of days at the cottage. It has everything one would want to enjoy the lake, a firepit with smores, kayaks, paddleboat, diving board, places to fish, corn hole, etc. The neighbors are quite friendly and even shared with us their days catch of fish, which we were able to enjoy for dinner.
Julie was easy to communicate with and quickly answered all of our questions. We were very happy that we chose to stay at the cottage.
Nice, quiet getaway....cottage was just as described. Nothing fancy but beds were comfortable and we all slept great. Our only complaint was that the water pressure was not very good since it's an old house. You may also want to bring drinking water if you aren't a fan of well water. We spent a few days here (2 moms, 4 kids ages 1,2,3,4) and enjoyed swimming and s'mores. The pedal boat is only a two-seater so we had to take turns but the kids felt cool just sitting in it and not going anywhere! We also took the kids to the nearby elementary school which had an awesome playground. Wish we could have spent more time on the lake in the boat/kayaks but it wasn't possible for us with 4 little ones. Thanks, Julie, for sharing your home with us and making us feel so welcome! It was so nice having a kitchen, towels, etc. so we could just stay put and relax once we arrived.
My family just enjoyed a several day stay at Julie's cottage. The setting was very peaceful. There is a fabulous view of the surprisingly quiet lake. We utilized the fire pit and lawn chairs each evening - which was a wonderful way to end the day. The property has a pretty big lawn. The cottage is only a few minutes from Columbia City - which was convenient.
The listing description was spot-on. There are no bells and whistles, no good phone/wifi signals, and the house/appliances/furnishings are "old school". We liked it this way!
I would mention that if you are used to purified water - bring your own. The water is very high in mineral content.
Julie was a very considerate host. She answered all my questions promptly and was very helpful. I recommend this listing!
The Peaceful Lakefront Cottage is exactly that! The view of the lake was beautiful, and I'm sorry we didn't have more time to enjoy it. The cottage is adorable, and Julie is a very thoughtful host. My son said it best: "This place really is peaceful!"
