Response from Mel:

1) This community was built on the beachfronts rainforest. There are an abundance of wildlife, and I do believe there might have been 1 or 2 geckos. If there were 20+ I think this merits a picture. I do leave windows and doors open all day to catch the ocean breeze, so 1 or 2 may have snuck in.

2) We have 24 hour video surveillance (16 cameras) and tapes were reviewed. You were greeted by the general manager and told you that my property manager was waiting for you at the villa. His office is right at the entrance which I posted a picture of. There are bars on the windows as you can see in the photos but this is normal for costa rica and any research would indicate this is our way of life. In the USA you use ADT and webcams as a security system and this doesn't make me feel insecure or make it wrong. You claim you don't feel safe but you checked into the hotel across the street that also has villas on the public beach that are not even gated.

3) As you said a $10 deposit is required for the phone cause I do not ask for a deposit on the house for my rentals, the $10 can be reimbursed if that amount is not exceeded. This phone has access to international calls and we are protecting ourselves from paying large phone bills even though $10 is too low.

4) As a host I provide a book exchange and tourist info in my home, but you borrowed a book from the tour guide in the office and never returned it, you even scheduled a fishing trip with the office.

5) I visited the villa after your short stay and found dirty dishes in between the clean ones in the cabinet. The sauce found on them matched the pasta you left in the garbage. I expect more cleanliness from a guest in my home.

5) I too have a young family and I also grew up here. My daughter is 2 years old and has spent most of her life in this home. There are families with small children and elderly couples that also reside here year round.

I am disappointed that you weren't satisfied but we spoke in private messages a lot and I was never deceiving at all, maybe your family expected a hotel/resort experience. We rent our home year round and we have a very high satisfaction rate.
