About This Listing
Our appartment of 105m2 on the first floor of the building is situated on the beautiful site of the Old Veterinary school of Brussels. Big windows all around let lots of light in, great view, a terrace in the summer, great for kids to play.
At 7 minutes walk from the South station, and 20 min walk to the Grand Place, the appartment is situated in a parc, hardly any traffic, therefore great for kids, and quiet. The appartment is entirely renovated with ecological materials. In the summer there is a private terrace and the rest of the parc to enjoy. The ancient features of the appartment with wooden doors, moldings on the 4m high ceiling and a marble mantelpiece in the master bedroom have been kept and restored.
Most walls have been insulated and with the underfloor heating and a wood stove give a very pleasant indoor climate. The ceiling in the guest room still needs to be insulated as it has directly a piece of roof above it. Until then we provide in the winter an extra stove and blankets.
On the site live mostly expats from all over the world, so any language goes...
For 2015 building works for the big building at the entrance of the site are going on, so please expect to see some "building site rubble" when you enter the site. The noise is not really an issue, as most of the works are inside.
Depending on us being here or away you have either a bed and couch in one of the rooms for 1 (exceptionally 2) persons or access to the whole appartment for 3 to max 5 persons, including the living, kitchen, master bedroom, office/guest room and the children's room. There is also a separate toilet room, a shower and a bathroom that has a shower, 2 lavabos and another toilet.
If not otherwise indicated, in the next months we can host 1-2 persons, only during holiday season we will make the whole appartment available.
Please note: The bathroom is the only room that is not entirely finished, (e.g the door is currently still a curtain and the second level of the bathroom where a bathtub will come one day).
Generally we (couple with a child of 5,5 years) love to interact with our guests, invite them for dinner, show them around. When we are not here we will provide you with all necessary information for an enjoyable stay in Brussels. Also we speak English, German, French, Italian, Dutch and some Spanish.
The neighbourhood is a special one, with this park area in the middle of a mainly old and new immigrant neighbourhood with a growing influx of young belgian couples as housing prices are still affordable. The area used to be the top address of Brussels 100 years ago. That's why you find the most beautiful art deco houses in this area. The cultural and conference center "The Egg" is literally around the corner (2min walk).
A mediterranean atmosphere in the neighbourhood provides for lots of little shops and makes it easy to talk to the people in the bakery, fruitshop, butcher, fish shop, pharmacy etc, all friendly and with good prices. The other side of the coin is a certain amount of disorder on the streets and walkways (+ official rubbish bags in the streets on different days during the week, waiting to be picked up by the municipal waste utilities). Lots of smaller grocery shops around with ok prices as compared to big supermarkets.
The Brussels South station with Eurostar, Thalys, ICE high speed trains from all over Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt), Metro station, lots of busses and trams. It is currently possible to park on our site next to the building.
We enjoy civilised, responsible and solution oriented people, no problem if sth goes wrong, just talk about it and we can find a solution.
I had a perfect visit with Bettina and her sweet family. The room and it's setting was a Perfect retreat from the bustle of the city and the hassles of travel. She was very helpful with tips on using the and neiborhood restaurants, etc. The location was perfect. An easy walk to the station - even with luggage. The windows overlooking the courtyard garden and grounds was especially nice. The right combination of privacy and company with good intelligent conversation.
Bettina is a good host and very responsible and friendly. The water heater was not working when I was there, and there was no hot water. Bettina told me about this before my arrival. The flat's location is 10 mins walk to Bruxelles Midi station from which you can visit anywhere. The room and house itself is a bit dusty but clean overall. Overall, it was a nice experience save for the hot water.
It was nice staying with Bettina and her family. The apartment is spacious and walking distance from Midi station. Really feel home all thanks to the hospitality given :) Would recommend the stay with Bettina when visiting Brussels.
I had a pleasant stay in Brussels. Bettina and her husband and son made me feel very welcome in their home. There were a couple of uncontrollable issues that happened, but they were easily resolved. The bed was very comfortable! I hope to return to Belgium someday. Thanks!
I had stayed 7 nights in Bettina's house. She and her family were so nice to me. Her family's smiles allayed my fatigue due to long time flight:)
The location from the nearest station is really accessible. In addition, it is possible to walk from the house to Grand Place, so I didn't use any transportation to visit Grand Place. A room I stayed was clean and specious.
If I have next chance to come to Brussels, I stay in her house again. Thank you for hosting me. I really enjoyed my stay in Belgium and appreciate you and your family.
I really enjoyed staying at Bettina's. She was super friendly and I felt welcome at her place which is spacious and allowed me to work without distractions.
It turned out we have a lot in common and had some good chats.
