Treehouse #3 is a cozy room on the 2nd floor in an authentic Hawaiian home surrounded by trees near the Anahola River. The gentle sound of waves can be heard in the distance at the local beach down the river. Walk to the local secluded beach where you can swim, snorkel, boogie board, surf, bask in the sun or take a long walk on the beach. The Anahola beach is a 3 minute drive or 25 minute walk from the Treehouse. Also walking distance is the local farmer's market every weekend, a convenience store for basic groceries, a Hawaiian shave ice stand and Kauai's best charbroiled hamburgers on the island.
Treehouse #3 is tucked away in a quiet local Hawaiian town for those who want to get away from it all, especially the tourism, and feel like you're in old Hawaii yet perfectly located to see everything on the island. We are halfway between the wetter and more lush north shore (Hanalei Bay and the world-famous Napali Coast) and the dryer south shore which is hotter and sunnier, but more touristy. Here in Anahola, the weather is absolutely perfect – sunny and warm virtually every day with occasional 3-5 minute refreshing tropical rain showers to bring everything to life. You can have the best of both worlds staying here and see ALL of Kauai from one place using our home as your home base and choose which way to go depending on the weather and your interests.
Treehouse #3 features a cozy suite surrounded by windows with stunning lush views of tropical paradise. Being surrounded by lush abundant trees makes this room my favorite room in the house. Sun rays stream into the room in the morning and birds just outside your window sing and welcome the new day.
Treehouse #3 includes a private outdoor deck with amazing views, a private sitting room, a bedroom with 1 queen bed (with memory foam mattress topper!), 1 outdoor shower, 1 shared bathroom with shower, full access and use of the shared kitchen and dining room and another shared outdoor deck for enjoying meals outdoors with the birds and the trees. Coffee and food are not provided; however, there's room in the pantry and refrigerator for your food - you get your own shelf!
What you need to consider before reserving this room is your comfort level with cat(s). There is a house cat who thinks this is her room and she likes to hang out in this room. There is only a curtain to this room with no solid door to keep her out, so you need to be really comfortable with cats to rent this room.
The other consideration before reserving this room is your level of comfort with "limited audible privacy." As you can see from the pictures, the shared dining room and kitchen are just outside your suite. The bedroom itself is enclosed in a bamboo wall and a solid curtain for visual privacy.
Your sitting room is just behind the dining room divided by a sheer curtain to give you privacy, but you are likely to hear our other guests making breakfast in the dining room/kitchen area in the morning and evenings or walking up and down the stairs. We inform all the guests that talking needs to be at whisper levels between 9pm and 9am in the kitchen and dining room. This helps tremendously, but if you rent this room, please acknowledge that you have read this section about "limited audio privacy" and sharing the room with a visiting cat so I know your aware and accept these conditions before booking this room.
The main criteria I care about more than anything else in sharing my space with guests is "quietness." If you think you are "loud by nature" or want to play music or watch a movie without headsets, or make cell phone calls on speakerphone, this would not be a good fit for either of us. Instead, please choose one of the 2 private units offered under my listings.
While staying at the Treehouse, we are close enough to the beach that you can hear the gentle sound of waves in the background at night. Smell the fragrance of Plumerias (a favorite in leis), night blooming jasmines and gardenias that fill the air. Listen to the birds sing and coo all day long. Chickens with their baby chicks and scuttle through the yard looking for worms. Palm fronds and banana leaves flutter in the tropical breeze and dance in the rain. Banana trees burst with inflorescence producing an abundance of bananas. Coconuts drop daily so watch your head – if you’ve never had fresh coconut water, you’re in for a treat. Exotic birds of paradise mingle with the Papayas. In every case without exception, everyone has one or more of the following experiences here: fun-filled, joyful, restful, peaceful, magical, memorable, spiritual, uplifting, life-inspiring and sometimes all of the above (especially if you sign up for one of our Epic Excursions (described in greater detail below) and offered exclusively to our guests.
If you want to experience the most magical and beautiful parts of Kauai not open to the public or found in any guidebooks, please let me know. While living on Kauai and spending quality time with local Hawaiians, I have been shown the most pristine and beautiful parts of Kauai, places most residents living on Kauai still haven't seen. I can arrange for you to be guided to the most surreal places with by far the best scenic views of the island (Top of the World), or experience the magnificent power of the largest waterfall on Kauai by literally being taken inside and behind the waterfall (Waterfall Immersion) or a day exploring Secret Caves and Coves frequented by turtles and dolphins, or rock hop up a river and hike through a green lush valley to the base of another stunning waterfall (Makaleha). These excursions vary in price and are not offered by anyone else. These are our discoveries and are only offered exclusively to our guests. Prices range between $75 - $125 per adventure for each person. It’s important to let me know if you want to take one of our epic adventures when booking so I can plan it during your stay on Kauai around the weather and our schedules. For this reason I advise all visitors NOT to book any activities or adventures prior to your arrival on Kauai. Virtually nothing books up full (even though they will try to tell you otherwise). It's best to wait and book boat tours, plane rides, hikes, etc after you get here around the highly unpredictable weather and ocean conditions so your plans don't get cancelled. I will also give you plenty of custom tailored free advice on what you can do on your own and how to make the most of your vacation on Kauai. Bring a list of what you want to do but plan your calendar around the weather and how you feel when you get here.
Treehouse #3 includes private parking, free high speed Internet, full kitchen, boogie boards, snorkel gear (masks, fins, snorkels), beach mats and umbrellas, beach towels, beach chairs and coolers ALL included at no additional charge so you don’t have to rent, buy or pack these items for your trip. The washer & dryer available on the premises at $5 each per load (due to the very high cost of electricity in Hawaii).
Also included is a very cool hostess and in-house guide. According to my former guests, I'm an excellent hostess. I know the island well, so I'm an excellent resource for choosing what's best to do on your island vacation, including where the best hikes are located, best snorkeling spots, where the dolphins and turtles swim (including their caves), and where are the best secluded beaches, etc. I even loan you a copy of the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook during your stay so you can find your way to the best sights.
Staying with me on your vacation can be either a secluded one where you keep to yourselves or hang out together for a few meals and talk story. It's up to you. I meet very interesting people visiting Kauai this way. Sometimes it's their honeymoon as in the case of Nick and Amy from Vancouver Island, Canada. Other times it's life-changing as in the case of Claudia and Monika from Germany. No matter what, I assure you that staying with me on Kauai will be a most memorable vacation for you and your loved one or guests.
My partner is Swiss so we can assist you in three languages: English, German or French.
The best description of me and place are those written by former guests in my reviews. Be sure to read what they have to say. If you resonate with what they have say, then you'll know you came to the right place and will feel at home in a matter of minutes upon your arrival. This might also explain why my place books up full all year around. For this reason, the best way to help me choose a great fit for both of us is to read the house rules before inquiring to be sure the details fit your expectations AND tell me a little bit about yourselves, e.g. what drew you to my place, how long you'll be on Kauai, any special needs, etc.
The only way Airbnb lets you inquire and write to me is to first find available dates in my calendar first (even if you have to make them up). I highly recommend that you check for yourself by clicking on the "Calendar" Tab above the photos. This will substantially increase your chances of me accepting your reservation. If I'm already booked for your dates, please check the calendars on my other listings which are adjacent to each other on the same property (copy and paste the links below).

FACTOID: Did you know that when the Dalai Lama of Tibet came to the Hawaiian Islands in 1994, he asked to see only two places. Both requests were on Kauai and surprisingly he did not even ask to see the world-famous Napali Coast on Kauai. Instead, he asked to see Anahola and Polihale. When his surprised hosts asked why, he said "We [the spiritual leaders of Tibet] know Anahola is a portal where the souls or spirits enter this world and Polihale is where the souls or spirits exit this world." So there you have it, Anahola recommended by none other than the Dalai Lama himself. This is more than just a legend. There is a sacred pyramid shaped mountain peak in the backdrop of our home. In recent times this pyramid was filmed in the movie King Kong, but it's importance to Hawaiian history and culture is of much greater importance. There is a sacred birthing temple thousands of years old at the base of that mountain which is still guarded today by a living Kuhuna (Hawaiian priest of royal decent). Anahola is one of the most protected places on Kauai by the Hawaiians hence why there is very little tourism here and its the only town on this side of the island where portions are reserved exclusively for Hawaiians. Our home is one of the few in this Hawaiian village that is allowed to be owned and occupied by non-Hawaiians. We hope that you enjoy this unique opportunity to stay in a Hawaiian village far away from tourism yet conveniently located to see everything on the island from our home-base.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION (FAQs)
#1) I often get asked why am I being quoted a daily rate that is higher than the listing price? Our rates vary monthly and sometimes weekly based on demand and availability. The listing price is the usually the lowest available rate for the room. Your actual nightly rate can be seen on the calendar for your nights of interest. In addition, each listing is for a single person. There is an additional price of $25/night for each additional guest. A cleaning fee is also added plus an Airbnb booking fee. These get added up and divided across the total number of days in your inquiry to give you an "average daily" rate.
#2) Why can't you stay longer? We book up full all year around and we like to keep it fresh and give as many people as possible a chance to stay here, so we have a 1 week maximum on the shared Treehouse(s) and a 2 week maximum stay on the private units.
#3) Why can't I stay just 1 or 2 nights? I have a 3 night minimum on all my units so I can balance my days spent cleaning with days off enjoying life. This makes me a happier healthier host. I will consider making an exception if there is only 1 or 2 nights open between bookings on my calendar.
#4) I'm not able to book a reservation with any of your listings, may I still join you for one of your epic adventures? We want to offer the very best service and give the greatest attention to guests staying with us without getting stretched too thin or distracted from our core business of being excellent hosts for those staying with us on Kauai. For this reason, we only take our guests on these epic adventures.
#5) Do I need a rental car while visiting Kauai? Unequivocally, the answer is YES, unless you don't mind missing out on 80% of the best sights on the island. All the sights worth seeing are spread out across the island and the local bus and hitch-hiking cannot get you to most of these sights. Remember, Kauai is a remote tropical island with low population, not a major city with tourist buses. That's why you're coming here right?
#6) Can I save money and rent from one of the discount car rental places? Without exaggerating 70% of discount car rentals are unreliable and have problems so you are likely to play car rally for your first few days and that's assuming they have another 'running' car to offer you. The best car rental choices are the national brands, e.g. Enterprise, Thrifty, Avis, Hertz, Dollar, etc. Most of you will NOT need an SUV or 4WD vehicle unless this is part of the thrill you are seeking. Our roads are paved.
#7) What the best way for me to be a great guest? Print out and bring the directions sent to you with your reservation confirmation and then text me when you have your rental car and you are on your way here. The rest is easy. Just be considerate of others, especially with respect to the quiet peaceful harmony on the property.
#1 is the have fun and be prepared to experience paradise on earth. It really is.
#2 is to practice being laid back. Everything moves slower here and according to nature's pace (not man-made pace).
#3 is be open to a new way of life and living. You may find yourself transformed by this ordinary vacation. This has happened to many others who have stayed with me and for no apparent reason. It just happens sometimes.
#4 is plan on being quieter than usual and being mindful of letting the outdoor nature sounds be louder than you. Sound carries and the walls are thin. For this reason, I prefer that you use cell phones and other audio devices in your room for personal use (rather than the common spaces) and please bring a headset to use with these devices so as not to disturb other guest's peace and quiet.
#5 is to clean up after yourself in the shared spaces and If you treat me like a respectful friend we'll get along great.
#6 is no smoking anywhere on the premises (because it just floats back inside the open windows from the breezes that are always present).
#7 social drinking is fine, but please no heavy drinking (like getting drunk and loud).
#8 is be open to magic! You'd be surprised what happens here on Kauai. Coincidences are common.
#9 is that you will promise to print out and bring the directions (attached to your receipt) with you and not rely on our physical address....because mapping it, even with GPS or a smart phone won't get you here. Unfortunately everyone who relies on mapping the address gets lost because the address puts you out on the highway, when in fact we are down a private road. So, when you call me and ask for help because you forgot the directions, you might not reach me. Please don't start your vacation off by getting lost. The directions are your treasure map and you cannot find this little gem without them.
#10 is enjoy the benefits of an early check in immediately after your arrival on the island and not waiting until 4pm (like most places) because your room will be ready by 12noon. This means I need to coordinate your arrival time to greet you at the house. I need to know in advance what time you land on Kauai and I highly prefer that you come directly here from the airport so I can anticipate your arrival time (and not stop for lunch or groceries while I wait for you at the house). This way I can plan my day around your arrival. Two gold stars if you text me (phone number hidden)) when you're leaving the airport in your rental car! This way I can pin point your arrival time and be sure to be home to greet you to give you a quick tour of the house so you'll feel right at home in no time at all. Then you're free to come and go as you please. I can then head off to work or play after you settle in and make yourselves at home. After hosting for over a year now with 100+ happy guests, this has been the best recipe for the smoothest arrival. You get to check in early and I get to do my thing. Really helps to know in advance the time of your departure as well. This helps me take best care of the next guest(s) with the timing of their arrival. Latest check out time is 11am, but if you have a late flight, you can store your things at my house during the day and come back for a shower before heading off to the airport. So, when you stay with me at the Treehouse, you can enjoy the some of the benefits and flexibility of a virtual late check out and an early check in. My guests have found this to be especially wonderful to check in immediately after a long day of travel rather than drive around the island in a tired stupor until 4pm.
I really loved Kauai and the Treehouse. Perfect spot to start exploring the island. Even if Sean was not there, her friends Geoff and Katita took perfectly care of me before and during my stay.
Everything in the Treehouse is absolutely well organized and it was great to borrow things like snorkel equipment, sunshade, boogie boards etc.
I will definately be back in Kauai and hopefully in the Treehouse!
Big THANK YOU to Sean, Geoff and Katita for all your recommendations!!
Pretty much the only thing I can complain about from my stay here was that contrary to the description, neither of the cats were ever in our room. Other than having a cat-free room, everything about our stay was great.
I did think that the house would be more secluded in its location (it's about a block in from the main road along the island), but that was my own mistake, and you could rarely hear the occasional distant cars driving by amongst all the birds and the rooster crows. Plus the location made for great breakfasts. There's a delicious fresh (organic?) smoothie and acai bowl stand just a two minute walk across the road that we indulged in every morning. Sean was away during our stay but her neighbors Geoff and Katita were there to show us around and they took excellent care of us. I could not have had a better experience!
We had the best experience at Sean's! We were hosted by Sean's friends, Geoff and Katita they were great, very helpful with lots of info on Kauai. The house was wonderful, I would live there permanently!! Well located in Anahola, great view of the tropical forest. Very clean, quiet, peaceful environment, we were in Kauai heaven! I would go back anytime and would definitely stay there again without any hesitation!
This was such an incredible experience! We absolutely loved the treehouse and the location was perfect! It seriously
Felt like you where at a little rainforest retreat. On arrival we where greeted by Sean and she was just amazing! She went through all we needed to know and see in Kauai! Made life so easy and made our trip really enjoyable and relaxing. I would highly recommend this place and the on top of the world hike is a must do! Will hopefully be back to see you again Sean!
We stayed at the tree house #3 for three nights. The room seems a little smaller than on the photos, but the bed was really comfortable. The roosters are crazy loud in the early morning but Sean thought of everything, including the earplugs. She is super well organized and provides everything you might need, even snorkelling/beach equipment and towels. The only issue was a slightly humid smell in the room, but we got used to it after a while. Overall the room could be a little cleaner (the shelves and closet were dusty). The common bathroom was cleaned daily, other people staying in the house were respectful. I can say it was a good experience.
We had an amazing time while staying at Sean's place and felt like we got an authentic Hawaiian experience. Thanks to Sean's suggestions and advice, we were able to experience some incredible local cuisine, beautiful paddle boarding rivers, and breathtaking hikes.
Our room was open and breezy, yet tranquil and private feeling. The other house guests were very polite and considerate and we never had any troubles with too much noise.
We are incredibly pleased with our experience. Would definitely come back again. :)
Treehouse #3 is absolutely awesome! Wish I had had more time here as it was a very relaxing and pleasant place to stay. The owner has perfected this process making it both easy and awesome. Relaxing mellow vibe was exactly what I needed for this trip! I will definitely be back!

Here's a bit about me since we'll be sharing space if you stay with me and I want to be sure we're a good fit even if just temporarily sharing living space or staying next door in one of our private suites. I'm a vibrant, happy, healthy, and youthful feeling 49 year old woman who loves to hike, surf, paddle board and sunbathe. I surf or paddle board regularly at nearby beaches pretty much all year around. I regularly explore new beaches and new places to hike and have discovered some extraordinary places you can spend a day by yourself in paradise. Happy to send you in the right direction if interested in any of the above. I am also married to the love of my life who I met while staying here as an Airbnb guest! My partner is Swiss so we can communicate with you in German and French as well, a real benefit if you sign up for one of our Epic Excursions and prefer one of these languages over English.
As for your vacation tips, since that's why you're REALLY reading this, I'm an excellent resource for choosing what's best to do on the island whether it's where to swim with the dolphins or turtles, where the most exclusive beaches are located, where are the best uncrowded hikes, and so much more. If you do Kauai on your own without local advice, you're sure to miss the real gems. If we really get along, I'll take you to some local happenings that tourists never get to hear about or find on their own. Are you intrigued yet?
My lifestyle is a very healthy one, both nutritiously and physically. I go to the farmer's market every week for locally grown fruits and vegetables cut fresh that morning and shop at the local health food stores. I spend most of my "free" time either outside enjoying nature being physical in the water OR inside the kitchen where I enjoy being a nutritional alchemist coming up with tasty elixirs of life :) Hmmm, what does that mean? I enjoy creating life-inspiring healthy foods and treats that naturally make you feel happy and your body fit (which is without exaggerating 80% diet and 20% exercise). I have developed some gluten-free, sugar-free, butter-free chocolate chip cookies that my friends call "Sean's Fantasy" cookies.
In general I have a very conscious lifestyle that's highly connected to nature and the spirit of things. So, I'm totally into nutrition having discovered natural fountains of youth in longevity herbs and superfoods, e.g. noni, fo-ti root, shilajit, mangosteen, blue-green algae, and my specialty RAW CACAO that naturally releases endorphins and serotonin that make you feel happy for no particular reason :) Want my recipe? Happy to share it with you. Now, having said all that, I'm NOT vegan or even vegetarian (they have great fresh fish and grass fed beef here on Kauai) so don't worry about cooking whatever suits your fancy. I don't provide breakfast or any meals, so you're on your own, but there's room in my refrigerator for your groceries and you're welcome to prepare your meals at home. Whatever food gets left behind, I donate to the local youth hostel down the road so no food gets wasted here.
I'm a retired electrical engineer and computer scientist from Berkeley and Silicon Valley so I invent things, but I promise I'm not a geek. I'm very open and sociable, but surprisingly quiet too. I'm really laid back and crave the quiet, peaceful, harmonious energy in my home. Happy to share this with you if this is what you're looking for. My place isn't fancy and neither am I. Visualize and feel the energy of an old Hawaiian cabin and that's what you can expect here. If you're even wondering if I have A/C, you may want to reconsider a hotel instead. NO homes on Kauai will run A/C. The Hawaiian Islands ship in over a billion dollars in diesel fuel annually to run our electricity and so you can only find A/C in hotel rooms. Homes happily rely on old fashioned tropical breezes to cool off.
I'm clean and tidy and did I mention quiet? I prefer the same with visiting guests. I read a lot and listen to music with headphones and play with my cats when I'm not creating food/drink concoctions in the kitchen or playing in the garden, but most of the time I'm out exploring heaven on earth. Come stay with me and I'll share a slice of heaven with you.
