Hello! We are two friends living in a 2 bed, 2 bath flat in the heart of San Francisco. Depending on our schedules you will be renting one of our two bedrooms. Each room has its own bathroom - YES, your very own!
Attention: We are currently accepting reservations through March 2015.
Enjoy eclectic artwork, a spacious back patio that opens to a yard, and a "homey" feel in our flat. Each room has a real bed with comfortable linens, blankets made by our family members, and decorations and treasures from our world travels. Depending on our schedules, you will be renting one of the two bedrooms. Whoever is not out of town will be available to give you tourism info, make you a pot of morning coffee or tea, or enjoy a glass of wine together.
Fresh linens, blankets, towels, and wash cloths are provided. We do keep clean extras of everything just in case. You may also help yourself to coffee or a huge selection of tea (herbal, black, green, white, loose leaf - you name it).
***Please note this is not a guest room - these are our own bedrooms that become available whenever one of us is out of town. Typically we know our schedules 6-8 weeks in advance. If you are looking for accommodations several months from now, we likely cannot fully commit to your request. Feel free to send us a message, though, and we'll do our best to accommodate you!
You will have access to storage in our entry hallway, kitchen fully stocked with pots/dishes/utensils and a gas stove, living area with cable TV, your own bedroom and own bath, and our gigantic (by SF standards) private back patio.
Interaction with Guests
Kate has a busy career in sales, and Vanna works in IT for a gaming startup. One of us will be staying in the other room during your time here. Because we each have our own bathroom, you will have plenty of privacy. However, if you'd like to share travel stories over a glass of wine, we love meeting new people! Kate has a car and can offer rides to BART if it works with her schedule. We love showing new friends around our beautiful city, so if time and schedules permit, we could go on an urban adventure together.
Our flat is nearly the geographic center of San Francisco. We are one block from Golden Gate Park, 6 blocks from Haight-Ashbury shops and bars, a 15-minute walk to the Divisadero corridor, and a 10-minute walk from a variety of restaurants on Clement Street. Our guests find that it's a very convenient location for those wanting to try new restaurants, visit major SF landmarks, and use public transit.
Parking in our neighborhood is really easy. (Wait, seriously? YES.) It's free and there's no time limit on the weekends. USF is just down the street, so the students take a lot of spots on weekdays, but I never have to park more than 2 blocks away. At night I almost always get a spot on our block. On weekdays it's free 2-hour parking from 8am-6pm (there are non-timed spots available a few blocks away) and you'll need to keep an eye on street signs for street sweeping times. Other than that, it's convenient!
Because we are located by USF, several major bus lines are within close proximity. The 5, 21, and 31 are within a block of us and the 38 Geary Express is just 4 blocks away. These will all take you downtown in 15 minutes. The 33 is also a block away and will take you to sweeping views of the city on Twin Peaks, then go through the heart of the Castro and the Mission on 18th St. Many restaurants and bars are within reasonable walking distance. We can provide you with a map for bus lines and tourist landmarks to help you get around.
Other Things to Note
There is no on-site laundry, but there is a laundromat at the end of our block. Lucky Supermarket is just a few blocks away and has free underground parking. Arguello Market has the best turkey sandwich in SF (try it!) and is 2 blocks from the house. Cafe Velo Rouge next door to the market is open for brunch and into the evening for happy hour.
Kate reuses hotel toiletries from her own travels for guest use, and extras are donated to a homeless shelter. We provide basic toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, your own bar of soap, a small hair dryer, and lotion. We do ask that you only use what you need so that the rest can be donated.
We offer a 10% discount for return guests. If you are a frequent visitor to SF, please send me a message and we can work out recurring accommodations.
Kate occasionally works from home but keeps to her room. We ask that you don't "bring the party home" but do want you to enjoy your stay here. Just be respectful of us and our space, and we will do the same for you!
Clean room, and a friendly as well as available host. I was encouraged to text Kate if I had any questions at all, even if I was just looking for advice on where to go or what to eat. It appears they have been renting rooms on and off for around a year, and it shows. They answered all of my questions before I even had them. The neighborhood is a fantastic residential area with lots to do, and very friendly people all around. Lots to do within walking distance--museums, parks, bars, shops, restaurants. I would certainly stay again.
I stayed in Kate's room over the weekend, when I was visiting San Francisco after attending a conference in a nearby town. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable, and both Kate and Vanna were very flexible with my schedule. The rate was also quite reasonable. The bed and mattress were perfect, and I slept really well. I had a rental car, and was easily able to get parking on the street, which has 2-hour free parking on weekdays from 8 AM to 6 PM. The location is excellent, right by Golden Gate Park, and is walking distance from bars etc. on Divisadero, as well as a short cab/Uber ride from restaurants in the Mission and Castro. The street itself is quiet and seems pretty safe; it is close to the USF campus. It is about a 40-min walk to the Marina and the touristy spots out there.
Kate and Vana were great hosts. I only met Kate during my check-in and during thst moment she explained how everything worked in the house plus gave me some travelling tips. The house is incredibly clean, bed is super comfy plus I got my own private bathroom. The area is super well located. It is really close to the Golden Gate parc and the trendy neighborhood i loved: Haight and Ashbury.
Some mentionned in other feedback that the room was cold but i thought the temperature was perfect in the apt despite the heavy rainy days.
I also want to thank the little old man (neighbour) who helped me find a cab on A busy Friday evening.
I really recommend this place.
We had a great stay in Kate's room! Vanna was very helpful and available for questions, and the place suited us perfectly! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was very nice and super clean. We used the kitchen for a quick breakfast each day, and appreciated the tea selection provided! We hope to stay again some time!
Awesome experience, their home is very charming and well decorated. Past airbnb rentals have been at other people's investment/secondary homes. Kate & Vanna place, they live there so it's really homey. Super quiet, beautiful street. Easy ride on the 5 fulton to downtown. Uber/Lyft rides will set you back $11-13 civic center/16th Mission Bart station.
My girlfriend, Lori, and I spent a weekend at Kate and Vanna’s place and had a wonderful time. Both Kate and Vanna were very accommodating, helpful, and friendly — they want to ensure their guests have the most fulfilled stay while in SF. Because Lori & I were running a race in Golden Gate Park that weekend, location was perfect for us, as it was, literally, right around the corner from the park. Haight and USF are also right down the street, so there were plenty of things to do within walking distance of the location. The apartment, itself, was very charming and neat. We loved how homey the apartment felt and were very impressed with how well kept it was. The outdoor porch was pleasant for enjoying an afternoon cup of tea, and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed cooking-wise. We couldn’t have been more pleased with our stay, and will definitely recommend Kate & Vanna’s place to our friends and family!
I had a great experience at Kate and Vanna's place. I stayed in Kate's room which was very comfortable. The bed is a little high, which was fine for me at 5' 7" but for shorter/older people I can imagine that might be problematic. It's cold in the apt (true for many SF apts) but the heat in Kate's room works very quickly to warm up once you put it on. The neighborhood is very nice and close to lots of other fun neighborhoods. Kate was very nice and and responded super quick to questions via text. Overall great experience - I hope to stay there again!
Kate: Born and raised in Indiana, I transplanted to San Francisco 5 years ago. I love SF for its food, culture, people, and landscape.
I have a fast-paced job in outside sales which takes me all over the Bay Area. My company works with commercial building owners and property managers to increase the energy efficiency and sustainability of their buildings.
When I'm not hard at work, I'm hard at play! I have a ton of hobbies including rock climbing all summer, skiing all winter, wine tasting year round, yoga, playing the violin, and baking. My favorite places in Northern California are Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Sonoma, and West Marin.
I enjoy traveling, both domestic and international, which is usually the reason my listing is available. While I'm out of town making new memories, stay in my cozy room and enjoy all that San Francisco has to offer!
Vanna: Originally from Trinidad, I grew up in NYC and moved to SF 3 years ago. I work in IT for a gaming startup. I enjoy live music, knitting, and wearing costumes whenever possible!
We are very easy going and love making new friends. Our goal is to invite people from all over the world to have a safe, comfortable place to stay in San Francisco. Our hope is that one day we can come visit you, too!
