Hello! We are two friends living in a 2 bed, 2 bath flat in the heart of San Francisco. Depending on our schedules you will be renting one of our two bedrooms. Each room has its own bathroom - YES, your very own!

The Space

Enjoy eclectic artwork, a spacious back patio that opens to a yard, and a "homey" feel in our flat. Each room has a real bed with comfortable linens, blankets made by our family members, and decorations and treasures from our world travels. Depending on our schedules, you will be renting one of the two bedrooms. Whoever is not out of town will be available to give you tourism info, make you a pot of morning coffee or tea, or enjoy a glass of wine together.

Fresh linens, blankets, towels, and wash cloths are provided. We do keep clean extras of everything just in case. You may also help yourself to coffee or a huge selection of tea (herbal, black, green, white, loose leaf - you name it).

***Please note this is not a guest room - these are our own bedrooms that become available whenever one of us is out of town. Typically we know our schedules 6-8 weeks in advance. If you are looking for accommodations several months from now, we likely cannot fully commit to your request. Feel free to send us a message, though, and we'll do our best to accommodate you!

Guest Access

You will have access to storage in our entry hallway, kitchen fully stocked with pots/dishes/utensils and a gas stove, living area with cable TV, your own bedroom and own bath, and our gigantic (by SF standards) private back patio.

Interaction with Guests

Kate has a full time job in sales and Erika is a full time nanny. One of us will be staying in the other room during your time here. Because we each have our own bathroom, you will have plenty of privacy. However, if you'd like to share travel stories over a glass of wine, we love meeting new people! Kate has a car and can offer rides to BART if it works with her schedule. We love showing new friends around our beautiful city, so if time and schedules permit, we could go on an urban adventure together.

The Neighborhood

Our flat is nearly the geographic center of San Francisco. We are one block from Golden Gate Park, 6 blocks from Haight-Ashbury shops and bars, a 15-minute walk to the Divisadero corridor, and a 10-minute walk from a variety of restaurants on Clement Street. Our guests find that it's a very convenient location for those wanting to try new restaurants, visit major SF landmarks, and use public transit.

Parking in our neighborhood is a breeze. (Wait, seriously? YES.) It's free and there's no time limit on the weekends. USF is just down the street, so the students take a lot of spots on weekdays, but I never have to park more than 2 blocks away. At night I almost always get a spot on our block. On weekdays it's free 2-hour parking from 8am-6pm (there are non-timed spots available a few blocks away) and you'll need to keep an eye on street signs for street sweeping times. Other than that, it's pretty easy!

Getting around

Because we are located by USF, several major bus lines are within close proximity. The 5, 21, and 31 are within a block of us and the 38 Geary Express is just 4 blocks away. These will all take you downtown in 15 minutes. The 33 is also a block away and will take you to sweeping views of the city on Twin Peaks, then go through the heart of the Castro and the Mission on 18th St. Many restaurants and bars are within reasonable walking distance. We can provide you a map with bus lines and tourist landmarks to help you get around.

Other Things to Note

There is no on-site laundry, but there is a laundromat at the end of our block. Lucky Supermarket is just a few blocks away and has free underground parking. Arguello Market has the best turkey sandwich in SF (try it!) and is 2 short blocks from the house. Cafe Velo Rouge next door to the market is open for brunch and into the evening for happy hour.

Kate reuses hotel toiletries from her own travels for guest use, and extras are donated to a homeless shelter. We provide basic toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, your own bar of soap, a small hair dryer, and lotion. We do ask that you only use what you need so that the rest can be donated.

  • My husband and I mostly interacted with Kate. She was friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a comfy and warm room. Clean towels and private bathroom. She offered us coffee and tea. Over all a great stay. Free street parking (in SF!!) Street level entrance. A cute patio for a cup of coffee. We met Erika on the way out and she was just as kind. Will definitely stay again.

  • We had the apartment to ourselves since Kate was gone for the weekend. Communication with her was very good and we were greeted by a friend who showed us around and gave us the key. The place was clean, fresh and comfortable. Street parking was surprisingly easy for San Francisco. Coming from Sacramento's heat, we found San Francisco and the apartment cool for our heat acclimatized bodies, and so we used a space heater as needed. There was a lovely little back porch and yard complete with visiting chickens which provided entertainment. The street was quiet, but close to everywhere we wanted to go including a block walk to Golden Gate Park and the University of San Francisco. We had a lovely and comfortable stay.

  • My wife and I really enjoyed staying at Kate and Erika's place. Kate was out of town, so we were in her room, which was comfortable, clean, and cozy. The bed was very nice. Erika was very welcoming and helpful in getting us settled.

The location of the apartment was great for us as well, as it was a little removed from the bustle of downtown but close enough that it didn't feel too far away. It was great being so close the Golden Gate Park and parking was very easy in the neighborhood, especially during the weekend since there were no time limits.

Thanks so much for a nice stay. We hope we can come stay again sometime!

  • My girlfriend and myself stayed in Kates room for only a few nights, but it was great. We had an extremely comfy bed in our own room with our own en suite. You can't beat the location, it's so close to everything! We loved walking to Haight street for breakfast or dinner and strolling through Golden Gate Park. The bridge is very easy to get to aswell.
Kate and Erika are both sincere and lovely and I cant find one fault. Although we didn't meet Kate in person, communication with her was easy and she helped with ALOT of my queries and she seemed happy to help. Erika is bloody great, she'll willing help you get your bearings and tell you all the cool places to go.
We wish we could have stayed longer!
Highly recommend staying with these girls.

About
Born and raised in Indiana, I transplanted to San Francisco 5 years ago. I love SF for its food, culture, people, and landscape. I have a fast-paced job in outside sales which takes me all over the Bay Area. My company works with commercial building owners and property managers to increase the energy efficiency and sustainability of their buildings. When I'm not hard at work, I'm hard at play! I have a ton of hobbies including rock climbing all summer, skiing all winter, wine tasting year round, yoga, playing the violin, and baking. My favorite places in Northern California are Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Sonoma, and West Marin. I enjoy traveling, both domestic and international, which is usually the reason my listing is available. While I'm out of town making new memories, stay in my cozy room and enjoy all that San Francisco has to offer! My housemate Erika is a recent graduate of USF and is enjoying the working world for now. She plans to do some extensive world traveling later in 2014, so swap some travel advice with her over a glass of wine! We are very easy going and love making new friends. Our goal is to invite people from all over the world to have a safe, comfortable place to stay in San Francisco. Our hope is that one day we can come visit you, too!
