Enjoy paradise in this darling "casita" situated on the grounds of one of the most admired private properties in downtown Boquete.
The cozy, comfy and convenient one-room guest cottage sits behind a charming wrought iron gate overlooking a beautiful bubbling stream.
The "casita" is stocked with mini-fridge, microwave, toaster-oven, electric kettle and coffee maker - the basics for preparing breakfast or a light meal.
Walk to language school, restaurants & cafes, shopping, golf course, eco-touring, transportation! Or just hang out in the hammock, listening to the running stream.
The setting is perfect for a romantic weekend, a week of Spanish language immersion, or a longer visit to explore all of the region.
If you are considering a move to Panama, your hosts would be happy to answer questions and give you some "insider" tips.
If you wish, you can arrange to take a course in silk painting with Barbara, an artist/teacher in Boquete (rabkindesign). You may also wish to take one of Mort's artisan bread baking classes. See boquetebread for info about his Boquete Artisan Baking Seminars. Mort, known as The Rye Guy, sells his fine breads at Morton's Bakehouse (opened October 2013) .
We and Maggie, our
sweet Labradoodle, look forward to welcoming you as our honored guests.
See our many glowing reviews. Our guests often remark that we have thought of every detail a visitor might need to make for a truly comfortable stay. We are proud of that!
Wow! What a perfect place to stay..
Barbara and Mort really thought of everything with there Casita by the river.
We stayed for 3 nights and slept perfectly on the bed that was hand made by Mort! We nick named the bed "The Marshmellow" as it was very soft in a good way.. So comfortable it was hard to get up!
Barbara and Mort are hosts that go out of there way to make you feel so welcome and at home.. We totally recommend staying at the Casita.
We also recommend visiting Morts bakery, the best bread and pastries that we have tasted in Panama! World class actually..
Barbara is also a great artist and her artwork is even on the walls in the Casita making it even nicer inside.
We really look forward to staying again sometime in one of our future visits to Panama.
Oh and Hello to Maggie! Their friendly dog.
Jason and Gabbi.
We had a wonderful time with Barbara and Mort. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel like friends. Their accommodation is lovely, well equipped with all amenities and in a perfect location. It is only 1 minute walk to the main street of Boquete and lots of good local restaurants and cafes. Mort¨s bread baking class is a MUST. We can´t recommend Barbara & Mort and their cottage highly enough. We hope to return and we feel like we have made good friends. Victor and Teresa, Kingston Ontario Canada.
Barbara was a very good hostess. She did her best to make us feel at home and took care of all our needs. Great experience
We loved Boquete and a big part of that was Barbara, Mort, their sweet dog Maggie and the Casita. It is BEAUTIFUL! The location is perfect and the main street of town is a block away. We also were given a delicious loaf bread when we were first got there, made courtesy of Mort, who is quite talented. That bread was gone within a few minutes :)
Barbara and Mort were just the perfect hosts. We got to spend some time with them on our first night and they helped set us to go on a coffee farm tour with Richard at Finca Dos Jefes, which was amazing. A must do in Boquete. They also gave us a lot of great suggestions on food and in the Casita, there is a detailed guidebook with things to do. They were always willing to go the extra mile which is so helpful when you are visiting a country you've never been to before.
A treat for us was that Barbara and Mort so kindly invited us to their Hanukah dinner party they were having and we got to have a great meal and meet some wonderful people.
I highly recommend staying with Barbara and Mort. We sure hope to again!
Our stay in the Casita by the river was wonderful! The location is perfect for exploring the town of Boquete, and was a very short walk to Boquete Outdoor Adventures which we used for our fun activities during our stay. Barbara and Mort are wonderful hosts, and our stay here was definitely a highlight of the trip!
Stayed two nights in the beautiful casita sirena. With the river running by next to it and the beautiful landscaping, it was a great place to be. The best parts, though, were the fantastic hosts, Barb and Mort. A warm welcome was matched by caring attention throughout my stay. I am so glad that I had the chance to meet them both, see Barb's beautiful art, and enjoy Mort's delicious bread. I know that anyone who is lucky to stay at the cottage by the river will enjoy it immensely. Thank you Barb and Mort!
Barbara and Mort provided the perfect home away from home for our five night stay in Boquete. The casita allowed us privacy and security, and the sounds of the river nearby was delightful. The location can't be beat - just steps from the town centre. Boquete has a lot of ex-pats and some great shops and restaurants. We were able to sample the local theatre and go on several tours, and our hosts went out of their way to pick us up, get us settled, and help us to make the most of our short stay at their beautiful home.
We loved our stay at cottage by the river! We came in from Costa Rica Caribbean side--see below for transportation recommendation if you are doing the same thing and not renting a car. Not only did Mort have a loaf of fresh bread waiting for us, Barbara had us try her new recipe of chocolate chip cookies with avocado (delicious-not kidding!!) and raspberry crisp. I think one of the reasons we love this city so much is because we were so well taken care of. Barbara emailed us details on daily trips and tours we could take and recommended the best restaurants. Check our "Mango" if you get a chance-it's in the neighborhood and then there's a beautiful gated in community above it "Valle Escondido" which we enjoyed walking/running through! Yes, location is excellent. The river drains out any other noises so you feel like you're in this little oasis. Their labradoodle Maggie is a darling-she likes Mort's bread too! ;) We always felt safe! The internet was good enough to send and receive emails daily (I had to work while in Boquete). Although it was difficult at time for (website hidden) voice conference calls. When that was the case we just went to the Oasis apartments and used their internet-very reliable as a back up! Tons of amenities offered in the cottage: tea, coffee, shampoo, freshest sheets and cozy bed! SUPER clean. Hot water in the shower-but it doesn't last long so wash your hair quickly! Thank you to our new friends Mort and Barbara! This really felt like home away from home! The mountain air is so refreshing. *Transportation from Costa Rica Caribbean side: bus to the border, walk across, taxi from the border to the Marina in Almirante ($10/person for collective taxi- 1 hr ride), then rather than taking public buses all the way to David and catching a taxi from there to Boquete, reserve in advance the "Mamallena" shuttle ($25/ea & 3.5 hrs)-It will drop you off at their local hostel in Boquete. From there it's only a 5 min walk to the cottage).
Cottage by the River is the perfect location for visiting Boquete.Mort and Barbara were the perfect hosts and a joy to meet and talk to. Boquete is a wonderful place to visit and many end up making it their home. The "Casita" is thoughtfully equipted and very comfortable. Easy walk to great restaurants that are very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend Cottage by the River and hope to return.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay in the
cottage. The location can't be beat - one block from main street. It made it very easy to not have a rental car. Once we got to David we took a taxi right to front door and spent the rest of the week walking around the town.
Barbara and Mort were great hosts and we spent an evening and a bottle of wine getting their perspective on Boquete and Panama.
We would highly recommend their cottage.
