My girlfriend and I always get stir crazy when we are cooped up in the city for too long. We decided to head south from Chicago and stay at the Savannah Retreat and man was the 7 hour drive worth it. We were looking for a quiet location where we could enjoy silent starry nights. We arrived way later than we expected but George was so amazing in waiting up for us. We felt so bad for making him stay up but he said it was nothing and continued to give us a marvelous tour of the retreat. We loved our stay at the Savannah Retreat and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The surrounding nature is beautiful, the people are authentic, and it's a great place to sit back and relax. But like they say, "I hope you like bugs!"

I was very glad to return to the Savannah Retreat for another writing getaway. CD is a gracious host and involved me in the naming of a newly arrived kitten. The gold bedroom is quite comfortable, and the newly added private bathroom was great to have. I highly recommend the Savannah Retreat to those looking for peace, comfort, and serenity. I hope to return again in the future!

This place is special. CD and George couldn't be more welcoming, and the house itself and surrounding farm area are charming. Just sitting on the dock and watching the sunset renews your faith in the world. Couldn't recommend it more.

We had a great stay at CD's home in Mount Sterling. It was easy to find, and was close enough to downtown Mount Sterling for our drives to and from wedding events for the weekend, yet such a vast and secluded estate that allowed for an immediate relaxation from everyday stress. Most of our friends stayed at the Comfort Inn off of the interstate exit. Let's just say the following day at lunch after discussing each others unwinding out of town experience following the wedding reception, all were green with envy. The home, at just over 100 years old, had great character, and your occasional spider or insect. But I would take some country bugs over the confined, filthy hotel alternative any day. A very relaxing patio pulls you in late night after lighting the rustic stand alone chimney fire and pulling out the acoustic guitar, or a good book, whatever your flavor. Our local host was extremely nice and gave us a clear, detailed walked through that also included some interesting stories of the home. He made himself available at all times throughout the stay, and coordinated easily by phone in order to meet at the house at the exact time of our arrival. CD also called to make herself available throughout the stay and to discuss any questions I might have upon expected arrival. In fact, our local host even personally mailed me an item of mine that I left at the home just a day after we had left. I would stay again at CD's Savannah Retreat, that is if I have another Mount Sterling event to attend in the future, or maybe simply if my creativity may need a down home, Kentucky roots inspiring weekend getaway.

My stay at the Savannah was truly the experience I hoped it would be. I was looking for peace and quiet, a taste of Kentucky countryside, and a relaxing atmosphere that felt like home. The house was clean and comfortable and I had everything I needed for my stay. The rolling hills and fields that surround the farmhouse give you privacy and a quiet escape from the everyday noise and fast pace of city life (I'm from downtown Louisville, KY). The neighborhood that surrounds the farm is safe, and it's a convenient 5-10 minute drive to Walmart, Lowe's, Kroger, fast food, etc. Moreover, the Savannah is a short 30 minute drive to one of Kentucky's most beautiful landmarks, the Red River Gorge. I had the pleasure of meeting CD during my stay at the house, she was a wonderful host, truly accommodating, and someone I'm now happy to call a friend. If you are looking for a genuine taste of Kentucky countryside, this lovingly cared-for home in the foothills of the Appalachians is the place to stay!

I came to the Savannah Retreat to hole up in a quiet, comfortable space and work on some writing. I have to say, George was a very welcoming and accommodating host, and it was clear that he and CD take great pride in customizing and designing the space as an inspiring retreat. The rooms were much bigger than I needed, and the workspace (which I assume is one of CD's own workspaces) was just enormous. I felt totally at ease and got to experience the beauty of autumn in eastern Kentucky. This place is a treasure, and I intend to make another trip soon!

I am CD Collins, owner of The Savannah Retreat. I am writer who divides my time between Kentucky and Massachusetts. I have spent the last ten years restoring my beautiful Victorian farmhouse so I and guests may enjoy a quiet, beautiful retreat.
I have devoted my life to my writing and to pursuing social justice.
Although I may not be in town during your visit, your host and Innkeeper, George will look after you. You may also call my cell phone at any time.
My house reflects my values, a love of nature, books, and the knowledge that respecting each other and the natural world is the key to a good life. I want you to rest, relax, create and truly enjoy the rustic elegance of this farmhouse.

And now... George.
George Preston Taylor here.
I will be your host, local contact person, caretaker of The Savannah Retreat and person to help guide you about our area attractions and the history of our small town of Mount Sterling, Ky. I received my high school diploma at our local high school and am a proud graduate of Morehead State University with a concentration in horticulture and animal husbandry.

I am active in our local arts facility, The Gateway Regional Art Center, which supports local and regional artists in performing and visual arts. We are delighted to count The Savannah Retreat’s owner and part time artist-in-residence, CD Collins, as one of our own.

I am a champion of the environment and believe in and protecting the beauty that Kentucky has to offer---from our breathtaking natural rock and water formations to our unmatched diverse animal and plant life. A large part of my life has been identifying, nurturing and enjoying what natural wonders Kentucky has to offer.

I believe in supporting our local merchants, especially our local farmers who provide fresh fruits and vegetables as well as home-preserved foods and baked goods. We are Kentucky Proud. That is, we take pride in what we produce and understand what it means to be stewards of our lands.

My goal is to make your stay at our retreat a place of comfort, security and create an environment for your best creative talents to blossom or just to relax and enjoy some well-deserved peace and quiet.
Our house is the first house built on this road, and is the last working farm remaining. The home was built in the Victorian Eastlake style and features a wrap-around porch, poplar hardwood floors and tiger-oak mantle pieces.

Come relax and enjoy.
