Old San Juan @ your footsteps

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Cll San Francisco, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico

Apartment located in the historical Old city of San Juan. Great balcony view and close to all the great restaurants and shopping streets. Still quiet and comfortable for a good sleep. One queen size bed & 2 full size futons, fits up to 6 people.

The Space

**** At the moment (due to security and cleaning issues), we are not accepting reservations from guests with children younger than 8yrs old stay at our place. Sorry for the inconvenience***

This apartment has one private bedroom with a queen size bed, one bathroom, a kitchen, a common area with two futons and a small terrace over-viewing 'Plaza Barandilla'. Great for a group of 4-5 people, but can be rented out by couples and singles alike.

It's located in a centric area of Old San Juan and within walking distance of all the cities main attractions, areas of historical significance, colonial buildings, plazas, cafes, restaurants, shopping district, live music venues and events!!! We love to meet our guests and share information about other places to visit within Puerto Rico and around the world!

This is a 3rd floor apartment and there are no elevators... all stairs! So, you get a great stay and a small workout, all-in-one ;) The building and the apartment itself is quite old (it has the original floor tiles, high ceilings, iron and elaborated stairs handrail) but it is kept clean and in great condition. Since Old San Juan is the oldest settlement within Puerto Rico, the building is a nice example of early Spanish colonial architecture. San Francisco street is safe and well lit ; there are always people and local residents strolling the area so, feel free to mingle at any time.

Although breakfast is not provided, coffee, tea and drinking water will be available to our guests. At the moment we don't have cable TV, but do have a TV & DVD available, as well as an iPod doc stereo. No internet, but you can get public WiFi access at any of the nearby plazas and most cafes.

  • My mom and I loved staying at Carla's Old San Juan apartment! The location is ideal... centrally located, walking distance to great restaurants, bars and Castillo San Felipe del Morro.
We didn't mind walking up to the third floor as the view made it totally worth it! The doors opening to the deck provided great ventilation, opened up the entire space to the gorgeous city and the deck was great for enjoying coffee or wine while people watching.
As two women traveling to PR for the first time, we felt very safe in the secure building and the surrounding area even while walking at night.
The futons are not your typical, flimsy Ikea type. The mattresses are heavy and thick and provided great sleeping space.
Shampoo, soap, etc. is provided. The bathroom was spotless.
The kitchen is somewhat stocked, check out what is already provided before making your trip to the nearby SuperMax.
The street noise may keep you up at night if you're a light sleeper and opt to leave the doors/windows open at night. Closing the doors and turning on the AC and/or fans is a good alternative.

  • The apartment was perfect for me and my boyfriend - we spent four days in Puerto Rico. The location is just superb. Right in the heart of old San Juan, everything you need is in walking distance. The main square is also close (where most of the tour groups for excursions to the rain forrest, etc. depart). A tourism kiosk is located right across the street in the square. Standing on the balcony one evening, looking at the stars, a seasoned brass quintet played well selected jazz standards. Nothing short of magical.

  • We stayed at Carla's place for two nights three days , 3/13/2014 thru 3/15/2014. We flew into San Juan, rented a car at Charlie car & drove maybe 15 minutes and parked at Dona Fella parking garage. (Super inexpensive and safe) walked two short quick blocks to the apartment. True there is no parking at the apt. , but parking is at a premium anywhere in old SJ. Easier to park at DF. Met Carla's dad at the apt. We called, he met us with the keys & filled us in on the apt. Yup it really is three flights up with no elevator. Not for the elderly or physically challenged. We were ok with it. It is literally close to everything in old SJ! We never moved our car. Groceries, ATM, Walgreens , Burger King, Subway, coffee shops, restaurants of all flavors. Around the corner The forts , cathedrals, museums a couple blocks away. These are short blocks not New York blocks. The apt is quaint, comfortable and just as pictured on the web sight. If you want a resort or five star accommodations search else where. We liked it. We liked the independence. There are futons no beds. One bath, reached by going thru the bedroom. Hot water in the shower. A/c only in the living room. Ceiling fan in bedroom, there is a fan only option built into the a/c (you have to slide the remote open to find it) you can keep the place cool if you want. We just enjoyed the breeze from the open air windows and balcony. One of our favorite features. The street noise is loud at times. You are in the middle of an active city. Tourists, businesses, taxis, your on one of the main streets. The bus stops right outside. Not a bother in the day ( we were gone) and at night you can shutter the doors and windows and turn on the a/c to mute it. If you need silence to sleep may I humbly suggest ear plugs and a sound machine. Everything you need in the kitchen. There were four adults in our family. It was fine. Might be a little too close with six adults. It would be fine for two adults and four kids of walking age. AirBnb was great! Carla was great, answered any question quickly. Her dad was very nice. Thanks Carla and AirBnb we had a great visit in Old San Juan.

  • We stayed in this apartment for two nights and it was the perfect location to discover Old San Juan. You can walk everywhere and shopping is close by. The best treat for us was the balcony, where we would sit in the mornings and evenings to enjoy local meals and the view. The apartment had all the necessities, was nice and roomy and we felt more like locals than tourists. If you want to experience Old San Juan with all that a city has to offer, this is the best location. We didn't mind the noise of a city, so we left the windows open at night and didn't turn the AC on, but I am sure it's nice to have an AC in the summer.

  • This is the perfect location for seeing Old San Juan. The entire city is accessible by foot. The apartment was just lovely. Every morning you could look out the balcony and see OSJ come alive. Carla had the bathroom stocked with shampoo and all necessities. The kitchen had everything you could need, and if you wanted something extra, the mercado was just down the street. I could not have dreamed of a better spot to stay. Thank you so much Carla. I'll most definitely be coming back!

  • We had a wonderful experience with Carla and the apartment. Amazing location, historic sites within walking distance but if you would like to take the trolley the house is conveniently located for that as well.

The building is very secure and there are several locks needed to get in and out. Balcony was lovely and the apartment is exactly like it is in the pictures.

Carla was great. She kept in touch with us and met us when we got to the apartment. She provided information about the area, restaurant choices, and some nice walking routes in the city. She provided us with clean sheets and towels. Overall, she was very nice and accommodating. I would most definitely rent from her again.

  • We had a great 6-night stay. This unit is right in the middle of Old San Juan, making for super easy access to everything it has to offer. Being right in the center of it, there can be a fair amount of street noise at night. This didn't bother me, as I sleep through everything, but the second night there my wife found a box of ear plugs at a local store that she used to help her sleep.

We had a delayed flight, but Carla kept in communication with us and met us right on time for our keys, despite the touch-and-go with the flight schedule. Everything was clean and orderly. People complain about the stairs, but we didn't find that to be a problem. If you're going to walk the city anyway, what's a few stairs?

One thing to note is that the bed is less of a bed and more of a futon with additional padding on the top for comfort. We found it to be more comfortable than many hotel beds we've slept on, but some people with sensitive sleeping might want to keep that in mind.

Great time - Old San Juan is pretty and there area a few restaurants with great dining. We made a couple day trips out to other parts of the island that I highly recommend doing. We'd definitely stay at this unit again.

  • This place was beautiful! We felt like we were really in the culture here. At night we heard classical music played in the square, a flute, oboe, and piccolo! It was really clean, lots of towels, sheets and pillows. Great experience for Old San Juan!

  • We adored this in-old-town townhouse: the location, the layout, the view. Plenty of towels, bed was comfy, and futons good for an afternoon snooze. Kitchen was well provisioned--even the fridge had drinks, coffee, tea, and snacks for us! Thanks Carla! Same for the bathroom. We arrived with no toothpaste, but we were well provisioned.

Carla was terrific to work around our arrival schedule to introduce us to the abode.

We played dominoes on the wee veranda overlooking San Francisco Street while we sipped our Rum & Tonics. Plenty of good places to eat nearby, and just below is one of the Old Town trolley stops, which we used the first day to get oriented.

Cities can be noisy, so we used the AC at night, as much for sound control as comfort. It worked just fine.

We loved Old San Juan, and that included our home while there!

  • Great appartment well located in old San Juan. Carla and her father helped us when we had questions (parking, shops, etc). I highly recommend this place! Everything was exactly how we expected.
