We really liked our stay at Jabari's place. although we didn't meet hem (he had to go on a business trip) he made us feel at home and made our stay easy by giving good info, being available for help etc. Also his brother who lives near the appartment was available to meet us, and he's a very nice guy. The neighbourhood is safe and friendly and metro stations are nearby. The bed is comfortable and the room is fine. So we really recommend Jabari and his appartment!
This was by first Air B&B experience and it turned out to be extremely positive. Jabari was a great host and was very personable. Jabari was very welcoming and immediately made me feel right at home. I would highly recommend staying with Jabari.
I honestly was disappointed after reading all these amazing reviews. I expected to be welcome and find a nice person to talk to when I start my life in New York. But reality looks different: The apartment is very dark, it doesn't look as friendly as in the pictures. Yes, the room was very nice and the bed is comfortable, but the dresser was dusty and the AC unit in the window was not installed properly so a nice airflow came in all the time. Which sucks in winter. Especially when you have a very mood swingy heat that also likes to make random loud noises (apparently normal for old buildings in NYC). Jabari took care by providing me a space heater and extra blankets after 3 days, but the noise that you get from the streets is annoying especially with all the ongoing constructions (which is not his fault, but he could at least have warned me about it). Additionally, the space heater really challenged the electric outlets (I blew a fuse twice just by having the space heater plugged in and my laptop as well). And the list of not-as-great-as-advertised things goes on: the WIFI is not password protected and incredibly slow! Like you can't get a connection slow. For a couple of days I didn't even have any. When WIFI works, it's nice that you can use the Netflix, Hulu, and Pandora on the TV. But be aware that there are times you can hardly here anything because the upstairs neighbor is very loud. Also, the kitchen is equipped fine but you really don't feel comfortable using anything as it has not been used for centuries (that's at least how it looks like) and again, it's very dark. During my 5 weeks stay, a water pipe broke on the streets and we were out of water for more than 24 hours. Again, not Jabaris fault but he could just go to some friends to take a shower or use a bathroom. I was stuck and he didn't even offer help or compensation. Some other days, I didn't have warm water in the morning to shower, probably due to the constructions in the building (I wasn't informed about that either). Oh, and laundry. Yes, there is laundry in the building. But like 2 washers/dryrs for the 6 floor building and one was even broke and it was very dirty and dusty down there, not a place I want to get clean laundry. Speaking of clean, when I arrived, the apartment was quite clean and I was very happy. However, during my stay I felt like I was the only one cleaning all the time. Over all, the communication with Jabari during my 5 weeks basically happened over text messages. He never came out of his room or talked to me. The few times we spoke, he was friendly and nice, he even mailed a book I forgot after checking out, that was very helpful! To sum it up:...
I did everything a reasonable person could to address Tabea's litany of complaints and treated her with the same kindness, respect, and dignity I've afforded all of my guests. On her first day here, she and her boyfriend reported that the room was cold, that the bedding was thin, and told me that I needed to remove the room's air conditioning unit. I was surprised to hear this as no one has ever had this problem and the temperature readings in the room were never less than 70 degrees. Regardless, I purchased an additional blanket, comforter, space heater, and thermometer for Tabea so she could warm things up to her liking. It was with this spirit that I attempted to resolve all of her concerns over the course of our time together. Finally, while I didn't offer Tabea monetary compensation for the inconvenience of the water pipe break, her boyfriend did return and stay for a week as an additional guest free of charge.
I stayed at Jabari's for a month directly after moving to NYC and I couldn't have asked for a better first home in the city! Jabari was a wonderful host- hospitable, welcoming, and fun to talk to! The location is very convenient and a quick walk to the A,C, B and D trains. I loved the neighborhood as it was quiet, but with plenty of food/laundry/stores nearby. Thanks for having me Jabari!
Jabari is a nice host. He has a cosy apartment which is nicely furnished in a safe area. The people in the area are friendly. It's very close to the subway station to go almos anywhere in the city. The only downside to our stay was the amount of noise outside on certain nights when we were trying to sleep. Also, be aware that there is only one set of keys if you are staying as a couple. Other than this, highly recommended.
My trip from NY was wonderful. I love NY, and loved hosteling at Jabari's house! The house is like to pictures and near to subways, pharmacy and supermarket near of me. Was my first experience in Airbnb and was better thing I was ! This site is safe, easy, and true !! I will go in all my trips !!
A great stay and would highly recommend Jabari's place! The location is right by the C line less than a minute walk or a short stroll of 5-7 minutes to the A C B D drop. Neighborhood was nice and safe especially if you're traveling alone. Apartment itself is nice and spacious as was the room. Jabari was a kind and respectful host, not to mention an amazing human being. Thanks for everything Jabari!
