Go to the middle of no where, then keep going. Quiet, remote, scenic. If those are your boxes, this place will tick them. This is a remote small holding in a rural place. It's quite basic rather than luxurious but pretty much everything you might need..

I should add a note of caution, in summer the place is heavenly, it's 746 feet above sea level, in winter it can be bleak and sometimes our road is impassible to 4x4's! Even when other roads are open to cars.

The space
I could tell you this is some sort of palace with every conceivable extra known to humanity. But that would not be true.
Should you survive the 1/2 mile unmade drive (it's a bit lumpy) avoid being mugged by Kenny (the dog) Mau Mau (feline terrorist) or Da Man (three legged gangster) you will get to the bolt hole.
Part of our rambling old 18th century longhouse. Which is quite literally in the middle of no where.
We are Rhys and Tarne and have lived here for nearly 25 years so it's quite lived in. This is a new idea for us so there's a level of "work in progress" to it. We will be adding to whats here as more people pass through and we work out what people like. There is terrestrial television and there is broadband after a fashion, it's pretty slow compared to city centres. After first running the place a few years back, we took the bath out and put in a shower.
It says "no parties" meaning that if you want a 24H boom boom ravethon we might not be impressed, but if you want to let your hair down a bit and have a good time, that's cool.

Guest access
Plenty of parking, 6 acres of fields to wander round, a bit of garden, access to the footpath that goes into the nearest village or up the mountain where you can see all sorts of wildlife.
A bit of a patio out the back and you can borrow
one of our barbecues to use as a fire or even for some outside cooking. This is all work in progress and we will be looking to keep tidying up outside. There is a small cottage next door which is being renovated at the moment.
By prior arrangement you could pitch a couple of tents in one of our fields or have a camper outside. Plenty of room!!
We are pretty laid back, enjoy meeting new people and have a sense of humour

Other things to note
The bolt hole is pretty self contained, has it's own entrance door, small kitchen with fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, single hob, kettle sink etc.
It's own bathroom with toilet, electric shower and washbasin (no bath).

Penlan really is the middle of nowhere. Puncheston and Llanychaer are the nearest villages about 2 miles in either direction. Fishguard is about 5 miles. Thats the nearest shops, cashpoint, cinema and restaurants.

The house is heated by a huge solid fuel stove, some people fresh from towns with switch on heating can find this a bit difficult. The stove runs on fuel from sustainable sources.

Bit of a laid back old hippy. Live with Tarne (aka: the management) with grown up kids, passing through. Various animals share the place including a horse, sheep, dog and cats. Into history and politics, anything that runs on petrol or diesel, Rhys is restoring a vintage fire engine and wants another motor bike. We have an array of oldish Citroens (usually) a Discovery and a VW transporter Tarne is a bit of a gardner, and foodie loves reading and wishes she had more time. Rhys likes real ales and decent wines. Our background is working with people who need support so we are pretty unphased by disability. Coffee has to come from France usually Carte Noir. Rhys and Tarne spend as much time as they can in Brittany. We have two bic canoes that we like to take to sea. Rhys speaks Welsh English and French sometimes all at the same time.

We are generally around and can supply maps and local info. We try to help, so if you need to use the washing machine etc, just ask. Otherwise, we will leave you alone. There is a joining door from the bolt hole to the main house which can either be open or closed -it's up to you.
