mid century modern art filled one bedroom bungalow with private courtyard + fountain (and lots of other yumminess too)
This is a gorgeously bright (half of a duplex) luxury one bedroom bungalow with a beautiful eat in kitchen, old fashioned + charming full bathroom that includes a tub to relax in (and thirsty towels + bathrobes), a private brick courtyard that features a wine barrel fountain for dreamy weekday or weekend peacefulness, as well as table/chairs/umbrella, and a couple of Adirondack chairs for a chill afternoon or evening, and a gas bbq. It's perfect for that California al fresco meal--or lots of them!
There are two steps at the front door into the kitchen, and three steps at the back door out into the courtyard.
One of the walls of the brick courtyard is smothered in old fashioned white roses in summer, other walls are filled with bougainvillea and a princess tree and shrubs. It is a quiet + sunny private spot of heaven, perfect for working outdoors on your laptop if you need to get something done while you are here--and the wifi works great outside. Otherwise, the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine + a snack, or enjoy a bit of a bbq.
Top of the line super comfortable queen bed coupled with 600 thread count sheets + lots of down pillows + a duvet makes for an excellent nights sleep in the sunny bedroom. All of the closets and dressers are empty and available for your personal belongings.
Every imaginable chefs tool is found in the nicely set up kitchen for the traveller who likes to cook and is a little done with eating out every meal; several half barrels bursting with culinary herbs are scattered around outdoors, and citrus trees abound, mixed in with bougainvillea and princess trees, roses and a small lawn. We always plant tomatoes, so you may just be in town when they are ripe--if so help yourself! We make sure to stock the basics--ziplock, foil, a decent choice of condiments, s+p, spices, etc, in the kitchen.
Living room is a nice mix of mid century furniture with original art mixed in (check out the huge San Francisco lithograph behind the leather recliner) plus a couple of throws to cuddle up with while watching the 47" flat screen TV--or playing one of the board games stored in the hall closet. The comfortable couch turns into a super comfy double bed for extra overnight guests--extra linens and pillows and topper are in the hall closet. The lounge + footstool are amazingly comfortable and mid century classics--we arranged them perfectly for tv viewing as well as reading or working on your laptop. This beautiful bungalow boasts rugs + original art and comfortable everything, as well as lots of peace + quiet + privacy. We set it up to be (we hope!) the perfect short or long term retreat.
Wifi/high speed internet is (website hidden) is internet ready and also has Directv.
Laundry shared with the other half of the duplex.
Private off street parking for one car.
No smoking anywhere on the property, indoors or out.
Bikes are available for a deposit + a small fee.
We are rather clean freaks, and the bungalow is fully cleaned between guests. We have our cleaner come in, and we personally wash and change bedding and towels ourselves to make sure it is crisp and clean and just the way we would want it ourselves!
Our safe neighborhood is located in one of the old and beautiful areas in Alameda--lots of Victorians and Arts + Crafts homes, big trees, mature gardens.
We are five blocks from the beach (pretty much a perfect morning or evening walk) and also five blocks from Safeway / Trader Joe's / Walgreens / etc, coffee, restaurants (restaurant recommendations + bart/bus schedules, as well as other local recommendations + insider tips are in the binder you'll find on the kitchen table), yoga and pilates; 10 minutes by car to Oakland International Airport, 35 minutes to SFO via BART. The transbay bus that goes directly to the financial district in SF is three blocks (they say 20 minutes), as is the regular bus, and BART is close as well. The g+ bus picks up five blocks away.
Yes, we do rent our mid century bungalow by the week and month, and we accept long term rentals for several months as well. For long term rentals there is an additional security deposit.
1) We are dog friendly (for MOST dogs--please send us a message before booking to make sure your dog qualifies) so if you are bringing a pet along, please let us know as we have a pet kit that includes food + water bowls, a leash, etc, for your furry friends' comfort.
2) As well, there is a REQUIRED PET DEPOSIT of $395 to ensure your dogs good behavior and supervision by you during your stay, as well as cover any damage caused indoors or out. It is refunded after your stay if there is no damage. And be sure to read our Pet Policy and ask any questions you may have.
3) NO SMOKING indoors / outdoors or anywhere on the property.
4) CHECK IN is 4pm, CHECK OUT is 12pm. Please bring your photo ID as we will check it.
5) If you are considering a stay in our mid century bit of luxe coolness, please complete and verify your profile. We are more comfortable hosting new people in our place when we know more about you--so please tell us a little about yourself and the reason for your visit to the San Francisco Bay Area! Also, our mid century bungalow remains available until you or someone else reserves it with airbnb by submitting a formal reservation through the site. Thanks in advance, and we look forward to meeting you soon + sharing some of our fave discoveries in this great area!
PET POLICY: We travel quite often with our own dogs, and know just how hard it can be to find a perfect and beautiful place to stay that also welcomes our furry family members in addition to the human ones.
However, we also must keep things quite clean for our guests that don't have a pet along, and want to sit on furniture and not get covered in animal hair!
Therefore, we kindly request that you do NOT allow your dog on any of the furniture, including the bed.
Please understand that If it is allowed on any of the furniture, there is an additional $350.00 fee added to your stay so we can have the furniture steam cleaned before our next guest arrives.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation! We want to keep on allowing dogs to stay, and we appreciate very much your respecting our pet policy.
As well, please do not go off and leave your dog all by itself in the house or courtyard without a crate and bed. It is unkind to the dog, and frustrating for the neighbors to listen to a barkety barkhead all day or night!
If you are going to need doggie day care, we are delighted to point you in the right direction, or assist you ourselves for a separate fee. And if you have any questions or concerns about traveling with your dog, please ask!
SMOKING POLICY: no smoking anywhere on the premises--indoor or out.
CHECK IN: 4pm, please bring your photo ID as we will check it.
CHECK OUT by 12pm
This was our third time staying here and it seems to just keep getting better. I came back to the Bay Area for work and wouldn't have stayed anywhere else. In my opinion, this apartment is the best value in Alameda.
Tess and R.C. are truly airbnb rockstars! We couldn't have asked for better hosts, as they were always available and on top of any request.
The kitchen, as usual, was clean and well stocked. Those fluffy towels and the comfy bed keep us coming back and the group dinners spent in the back yard will be memories we hang on to once we head back to the frigid Boston winter. Sorry to leave but hopefully will get to return soon!
I booked this home for my family who came from New York for the holidays. They were immediately charmed, and absolutely loved everything about it. It was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Regas and Tess knew that my family wanted to cook a turkey for Christmas, and they went out of their way to make sure my family had everything they needed to do that. They were more than perfect hosts and I would absolutely recommend the place to anyone visiting the Bay Area.
Had a great stay in Alameda Tess and Regas were excellent host. Our duplex was even better than the description. We are already booked to come back and couldn't be happier. This is a nice, quiet, little get away. Highly recommend.
Regas and Tess are true hosts. They made us feel so welcome in their immaculate home and were available if we needed anything. They went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. I would not hesitate to stay with them again and I would happily recommend their property to anyone.
This was our 2nd stay with Tess and Regas and once again our experience was fabulous. The apartment was perfect for my husband and I as we visited Alameda for one month to welcome our first grandchild! The furnishings and amenities made us feel at home from day one, incl. the comfy bed, bedding, great selection of pots/pans, dishes, towels and a few surprise items in the fridge. The outdoor space was ideal for an afternoon dose of sunshine and a great space to store our bikes.
Our son/DIL and the baby came for dinner many-a-night and we had plenty of room for 4 to eat at the kitchen table, along with a nice sense of privacy since the unit is located away from the main house. Off street parking and an outdoor grill were a nice bonus. Did I mention clean? I would swear the place was renovated moments before we arrived.
The location was ideal, halfway between our kiddos place on Shoreline Dr and their business on Park St. We rode our bikes to breakfast most days, circled around Bay Farm Island and explored other far-reaching spots. There's so much to do, so much beauty to be had here.
Tess and Regas are perfect hosts, always available for help and advice. We hope to visit again soon!
Regas and Tess made us feel super comfortable. I loved the yard and being able to enjoy the beautiful sunshine during the day. I loved the comfy bed, lush towels, and all the homey touches. It's clear that Regas and Tess put a lot of thought into making people feel welcome, comfortable and at home. The location is terrific and we enjoyed taking long walks with our dogs and to different restaurants in the evening.

About the Host, Regas
I am a wedding and landscape photographer, as well as a pretty decent cook, and I live in an old Victorian house near the beach with my wife and family. We try to spend as much time outdoors as we can (national parks are a big destination), and we love meeting new people through hosting, as well as exploring other cultures. I was in the tech field for most of my professional life, and made the jump into photography about a decade ago.
