You can rent one ($75), two ($145) or three ($210) bedrooms in my elegant, comfortable, safe house just outside Nicoya. Access to a full kitchen, two bathrooms, dining area and living room, with a large patio and yard. 45 mins. from Samara beach.
The natural beauty of Costa Rica surrounds our house. There are sometimes howler monkeys within 100 yards of the house, there’s always a variety of birds, and there are undeveloped hills just above the house where you can hike. When the Ylang-Ylang trees are flowering, their fragrance wafts into the house. The house is far enough outside of town to feel like you are living in the countryside, but the grocery store and other services are only a few minutes away.
The house, built in 2009, is very comfortable, elegant and well-maintained. It's large enough to easily fit six people. You can lie in a hammock and enjoy the view, or drink cocktails on the large patio. The house would be a good fit for someone who wants to explore nearby beaches or national parks. Samara Beach is a 45 minute drive, Carillo Beach is 55 minutes away, and there lots of other great beaches within 90 minutes. If you like hiking, we are 30 minutes away from Parque Barra Honda and about an hour and one half from Rincon de La Vieja National Park.
The house has wireless, cable t.v., a fully equipped kitchen and two and one half baths available for guests. It is very safe, surrounded by a wall with an electric fence. There’s a great swimming pool only 3 minutes from the house by car where you can swim for $4. My close friend Cesar will be your host. He has lived in Nicoya all of his life, surfs, and knows all the best beaches. He can also arrange for horseback rides through our neighbor Paco, or fishing trips through Cesar’s brother, who owns a fishing boat.
Interaction with Guests
I probably won't be at the house while you are there, but Cesar will be there and available to help you out.
The neighborhood has a country feeling, with horses and cows often walking by the house, the sound of the birds chirping, the iguanas strolling around, the butterflies who invariably find their way into the house. The lot next door is used to grow corn, or for grazing horses or cattle.
Our house is about one hour from the airport in Liberia. You take a single road all the way from the airport to Nicoya. Our house is 300 yards off that road. I'll provide more detailed directions to the house when you make your reservation.
1. Have a great time.
2. Don't touch the electric fence on top of the wall.
3. Treat the house as if it were your house.
4. Clean up right after eating, to avoid insects in the kitchen.
Yes it is a beautiful house garded by two big dogs. Cesar is a really good host. He is living downstairs. In the small rooms upstairs you have a Veranda with chairs and hammock. You can use the fridge and the kitchen of TV if you want to. I suppose you can also sit in the garden, but we preferred the veranda aa I didnt know the dogs. It is very quiet in this location.
As described Richard's home was lovely and peaceful. It is very convenient to find once one you are in Nicoya. Also very convenient
to beaches north and west of Nicoya. We found Cesar and Karolina
very accomodating and friendly.
Nicoya is a wonderful Tico town. Definitely worth a visit. Stephen the owner of the home was a very good communicator and Cesar, the host, is a great guy. We were surprised that he made us a wonderful pasta dinner and made us breakfast the following morning. We only stayed 1 night, but it is a beautiful house in a good location.
We spent 2 nights in Steve's house. It is really modern, beautiful and we felt really good there. It is well located near Nicoya where the amazing july fiesta took place. Steve was not there but he organized everything very kindly in order to make that stay a nice experience. Cesar, a friend of Steve, kindly welcomed us and guided us in Nicoya for the fiesta.
Everything was perfect.
Thank you all
My parents and I stayed just one night here but it was a very nice place indeed. We were so happy to see Cesar who waited two hours because our bus was delayed. He not only waited for us but gave us a ride in the rain and made us dinner. The beds were comfortable and the house is decorated very nice. We didn't get to meet Stephen who was out of the country but maybe next time for sure.
Steve was extremely communicative and helpful. He reached out to make sure my trip was on schedule and provided succinct directions and useful tips regarding my trip to nearby Barra Honda National Park (which is only 20 minutes away by car if you want to do some spelunking).
The House itself was as advertised, if not better. The place was really beautiful, to say the least. And I definitely enjoyed hanging out with the 2 big friendly dogs on premises.
Last but not least, the caretaker of the house, Cesar, was absolutely great and insightful. His english is limited, so speaking Spanish is plus, but I was with two fluent friends who facilitated communication. He had answers to all of our questions and really helped us out with out brief stay in Nicoya. Truly can't say enough about him.
I’m a lawyer from Oakland, California. I first visited Costa Rica in 2006 and fell in love with the country, its people and culture. I ended up buying some land just outside Nicoya, Guanacaste the following year. I found a terrific contractor and wonderful architect, and in 2009 they designed and built the beautiful spacious house you can see in the pictures. I stay there two to three months a years. My close friend in Costa Rica, Cesar Briceño, who is just finishing up law school, lives in the downstairs the entire year and takes care of the house and garden for me. I’ve decided to rent the upstairs of the house to provide some extra income for Cesar and to help pay for upkeep. I’m new to AirBNB, but I’ll try my best to make your experience a great one!
