My wife and parents just spent the weekend at Catherine's country cottage. It was overall and incredible weekend...woke up to the sounds of roosters, her dog and ours got along great - taking both on a long walk up the country road for a few miles didn't even tire them out. Set a fire each morning and Catherine was kind enough to maintain it while we were gone throughout the day. The chefs kitchen was perfect for us to make a nice dinner one night and utilize the open concept of the home. The home was well maintained and in a perfect proximity to town, hiking, the coast and many wineries. We will definitely try and go back soon.
My boyfriend and I came here for a Valentine's getaway, and we couldn't have picked a more perfect place. Catherine was a really great host. The house was very clean with lots of room. Catherine also left us some fresh eggs, a loaf of bread, butter, and half and half, and helped us start the fire. Catherine was also very kind about letting us bring the telescope up to the balcony. We were able to see quite a bit of stars, and my boyfriend also managed to find the Andromeda galaxy from her balcony.
Her puppy, Sugar, was such a sweetie. She would visit us and keep us company (don't worry if you are not a dog lover, Catherine made it clear in the beginning that she will keep Sugar away if you are not a dog person)! It's such a treat if you love dogs.
We had a good time at our vacation. It was so quite and nice, and you could see all the stars in the night. Catherine was very nice host and made sure we were comfortable, she also brought us some fresh eggs, which were delicious. The only thing which we missed were curtains, we usually sleep in late and without curtains it was hard to sleep in morning. Also we are used to curtains for privacy, so did not feel too comfortable without them
Sorry you were inconvenienced by the French doors in the MB not having curtains. It does show this in my photos, and there are pull down shades on all the other windows in that room.
There are several curtains up around the house but I will look into putting more for future guests.
Thank you for your suggestion.
Catherine was a very nice host. The advertisement is accurate. We enjoyed our stay. The wood stove and fireplace are great. The master bed was comfortable. Bedding was nice. Catherine left eggs, bread, butter, and coffee, which was nice. The property is generally well-kept and picturesque. Some people might want drapes or blinds on the big french doors in the bedroom to keep out light in the morning. It rained while we were there after a long dry spell, and the frogs were chirping quite a lot most of the time when it was dark. Rooster next door and / or maybe others nearby like to crow between 3 and 7 AM quite a lot. You will be staying on a farm and surrounded by farms. These can be very endearing and charming factors.
"It was a true pleasure to host you both, I hope you enjoyed my boyfriends homemade wine~
Sorry for the frogs ..
The roosters don't normally start that early, especially now that we have just given away our more vocal guy. It's otherwise super peaceful here and I wish you a pleasant night sleep where ever you are."
What a great place to stay. Catherine was such a gracious host. The fresh eggs, bread, and cream were perfect for making my favorite breakfast, one eyed sailors. The propery is a beautiful 24 acres. The views are awesome. Deffianetly a must rent. We will bee coming back soon. Thanks again Catherine we really enjoyed our stay.
Catherine was a great host. She met us upon arrival with a basket of fresh eggs and brought cream and bread later. We loved the cabin with a romantic fire and found it very comfortable and relaxing. We would go back.
Our stay here was a lesson in expectations. My friends and I have been using airbnb for regular weekend getaways for a few years and always search for a cozy, relaxing atmosphere, a clean space that we can quickly settle into, and a great kitchen to cook in. We are looking to completely, connect and take a break from the chaos that is everyday life.
While we greatly appreciate Catherine’s gesture of fresh eggs, a loaf of bread and butter, for our comfort level there was something definitely lacking in the upkeep of the house, which caused us to never feel quite settled.
Though generally clean, the space, especially the kitchen, could have used a professional deep clean. The sponges and bath towels seem like they’d been around a very long while and we couldn’t find any back-ups. We would have preferred to bring our own.
If you are a cook and bring groceries to prepare your meals, the stove is great and the dining table by the fire is a cozy touch. Definitely bring all of your accoutrement: olive oil, and spices (salt and pepper was all that was on-hand).
A number of other reviews mention the flies; yes, even in the middle of a very cold winter there was a constant buzz of flies near the kitchen/dining area. Even though we kept the doors closed and cleaned up immediately after cooking and eating they just didn’t go away. A fly swatter was provided.
We were not aware of any other heat source besides the wood-burning fireplace in the two-story house, so we spent a lot of our time tending the fire just to keep the warm. Bring your favorite sweatshirt and your fuzzy socks if you visit in winter like we did.
We paid for three nights and though the area was a picturesque place to explore, we just didn’t feel comfortable enough to stay the third night, so we forfeited the price of the last night and came back to the East Bay a day early.
The pictures don’t lie; the house is a lovely space in a wonderful setting (a drive to Highway 1 and the Sonoma Coast State Park was well worth the trip). But, it is a bit sparse, so when visiting be sure to come prepared.
I live in Sebastopol in a house next to the one I rent. I am an artist. I like to paint plein air landscapes and people. I am an avid cook and prepare all my own organic, gluten/casein free meals for several years now. I love my chickens, I currently have only 11 including a rooster but hope to have many more soon. My other past times are gardening for vegetables, butterfly's and bees.
