About This Listing
Spacious 2 bedroom retro apartment in the heart of Tokyo. It is hidden in a leafy neighborhood 5-min walk from Hiroo station and 10-min walk from the vibrant night life in Roppongi.
Spacious 2 bedroom retro apartment in leafy and foreigner friendly Hiroo/Minami-Azabu area. Large living dining room, huge master bedroom and classical Japanese tatami floored guest room.
Washer/dryer, high speed internet, all kitchen amenities included. Towels and linens also provided.
The apartment is as centrally located as you can get in Tokyo, with most of the city’s attractions within walking distance or a short train ride. The city’s nightlife nerve center, Roppongi, is a ten minute walk away – so no concerns about cutting the night short to get the last train.
Located a 5 min walk from Hiroo station on the Hibiya line ((website hidden)), or 10 min walk to Azabu Juban on the Oedo line ((website hidden)) or Roppongi on the Hibiya line and Oedo line ((website hidden)). Well-serviced by Tokyo’s bus routes as well.
Across the street is the famous Arisugawa Memorial Park ((website hidden)), with its large pond, open fields, library, fountains, and baseball field/tennis courts.
Sadly, the experience in this case was not all positive. Although the apartment is listed under Marco, it seems to be administered by Toshi. Toshi was initially introduced as a friend but seems to be the owner of the property. Pretty much all communication was with Toshi. The booking was made start Feb for end of March.
First sign of trouble came when Toshi got in touch about 10 days prior to arrival date to say that there was 'minor renovations' and some scaffolding. I expected this to be quite limited redecoration and since most other places were booked at this point, decided to continue.
On arrival I was pretty shocked to find the entire building covered from top to bottom in scaffolding and white netting and actually pretty major renovation work in progress. The flat was quite dark and dingy as a result. Everything seemed to be covered in plastic sheeting.
However, things got much worse when work restarted. We had loud grinding noises from 9AM as workmen were grinding paint of railings and hammering.
Also frequent appearances of workman in the scaffold at the window meant we had little privacy during our stay.
Rather than disrupt the holiday further we decided to stick with the flat but it did cause stress and mar what would have otherwise been a perfect holiday.
In subsequent emails, it seems Toshi was aware this work might be a problem at the time we originally booked but didn't tell us. In this case the owner was not candid on the state of the property so I cannot really recommend it. I don't think this should have been listed on AirBNB in the state it is as it is not really suitable for anyone going on holiday. No compensation has been offered for the disruption we experienced.
Aside from these issues. Toshi was helpful in providing advice getting too and from the building. The flat is conveniently situated for transport and fairly spacious.
We were travelling in a group of 4 and arrived in 2 separate groups. We never actually met Marco or his friend Toshi who arranged our arrival but there were no issues with it at all.
The apartment was great, really large and close to a metro station, the place is even better than in the photos.
We felt very welcome at the apartment, there were instructions left and even a few things for us to use. It definitely felt like home for the 8 days we were there. Would highly recommend.
My host was reliable and even if he could not be there a friend of his, beautiful English, was ready to introduce into the details of the apartment and of the area.
The area in which the flat is located is a residential, classy place. Two minutes walking from a special park, 7 minutes walking from Hibiya Line Subway, Hiro-o station, shoppe and restaurants. One stop away from Roppongi entertainment area.
The flat is old style, silent. A little cold maybe in winter, but when I was there it was more than ok.
Marco is a great host. Even if we didn't meet because of his journalist activity, he was very helpful and he made everything possible to make our easy.
His flat has everything we could expect to visit Tokyo in good condition :
Central with metro : 5min walk to Hiro O station which is 1 station from JR Yamanote,
Quiet environment : embassies around and one park, 24h combini shop close with all you need for everyday life,
Big : 2 spacious rooms that make it perfect for 2 couples traveling together.
Convenient : bathroom, separate (japanese) toilet, washing and drying machine etc…
The traditional japanese room is the cherry on the cake ! So nice to sleep in it !
Marco was all the time very friendly and helpful. Although we did not meet him personally, he was always ready to help us immediately by email or phone. Therefore, it was easy for us to find his apartment and to move in Tokyo.
The apartment was in order and it is situated in an excellent place in Tokyo. Perhaps the standard of equipment of the kitchen has certain obvious shortcomings; for example, the coffee maker seemed to be out of order and we had some problems with the air conditioners, but otherwise everything functioned well.
Great accommodation option for Tokyo. Excellent location and HUGE by Tokyo standards! Older style building but very clean with everything you need. International supermarket just down the road, handy to the train station and opposite a beautiful park. Easy to get a taxi from the end of the road too. Marco was very helpful. Good value for money. Highly recommended.
Thanks Toyah!! I know.. will put up more pictures! :) It was a shame that I didn't get to meet you in person, let me know if you are town next time! I went to New Zealand two years ago for a running race called Kepler Challenge in Te Anau. Love the nature in Kiwi and am planning to do the race again end of this year..
