First experience using Airbnb. Trusted everything would work out and it did. I would stay here again.

My trip's focus was on rest and relaxation. So, having a very comfortable bed was key. And the bed was so comfortable, I was able to sleep about 10 hrs per night. The room was simple and exactly what I was looking for. And the facilities was perfectly suited for a long stay.

Things to know (that I wondered about before going):

    1) Electric outlets are the same as those used in US.
    2) Security is more than fine but keep your wits about you
    3) Wifi alternatives exist if you need it: a) Cafe Rio Negro & b) Casa del Pan both are located on the main road.
    4) Budget: $6-$10/day for bicycle rentals (exchange rule of thumb is $1 equals 500 Colones) and about the same for a cab ride.
    5) Cost of living is cheaper than in San Jose & Pacific Region.
    6) Not everyone charges a service charge (tip). So, pay attention to your bill.
    7) Cab ride from airport to San Carlos Bus Terminal (about 20minutes drive) was about $28, bus fair from San Carlos Terminal to Puerto Viejo (4hrs) was about $11, & cab fair from Puerto Viejo to Cocles (about 10mins) was about $8.
    8) Cash out of the Bank/ATM is the best deal.
    9) Most tour activities are around $49-$99. But there is a 3day/2night package to Panama for $299/person for couples that takes you to Bocas del Torro.
    10) Not as much mosquitoes as anticipated! Dry season and underbrush trimming were contributing factors.

Nivi, was very helpful in figuring out how to get to Puerto Viejo. And even with giving info about the area. Pablo was also very friendly & very helpful. We had some good conversations about the area -- among other things. Also, one time when the wifi went down, he helped me out by turning his cell into a hotspot and I was able to do my midterm exam online & got a 100%! Thanks again Pablo! The dogs are fine to get along with. And I could tell they were sad that I was leaving. I will see them again when I return for another visit -- hopefully within the year.

Everyone I met was friendly. I never met anyone that appeared to be menacing. In fact, after being there for about a week, I felt like I was living there. I felt at home here. Lots to do even in this small town. Go to Playa Punta Uva: the best beach in the area!

    Pura Vida!
