Interaction with Guests
We are super fun, social and flexible hosts who welcome diversity and all kinds of lifestyles. We love getting to know new people and we are happy to help you however we can.
Because we are both actors, our schedules are sporadic. Joel is home during afternoons, Laura is home late evenings. Sometimes we will both be gone all day. We always make sure to share our schedules with each guest when they stay with us. When we are home, you will most likely see us in the kitchen cooking. Our bedroom is located on the opposite side of the apartment so you will have lots of privacy and space to yourself at night.
We welcome guests who are open to staying in an urban environment. Our neighborhood is one of the most racially diverse in the city offering a mixture of different languages, foods and cultures. During the day you will hear lots of city noises: dogs barking, kids playing. However at night, it is very quiet.
We live down the street from Humboldt Park, one of the most beautiful parks in Chicago. Filled with natural habitats and Chicago landmarks like the old horse stables and boathouse pavilion, it's beautiful to walk around any time of year. In the summer, there is a beach with a lifeguard! While walking through the neighborhood, you may spot murals that date back to the 1970s. These murals tell stories about the history of the community.
We are a 15 minute walk or 5 minute Bus Ride to Wicker Park 6 corners and Logan Square, the hippest neighborhoods in Chicago. They are great neighborhoods to go for restaurants, nightlife, art galleries, theaters, music venues and thrift shopping.
-15 minute walk to Blue Line, "Western" or "Damen" stop.
-5 minute bus ride to Blue Line, "Western" or "Damen" stop.
-O'Hare Airport: 40 minutes via Blue Line.
-Midway Airport: 1 hour 30 minutes via Orange Line and transfers to Red Line then North Avenue Bus
-Rental Bikes: Divvy Bike Station is a 5 minute walk. (Biking is so much fun in our neighborhood)
-Rental Cars: Zip Car Lot is a 5 minute walk.
Other Things to Note

Laura and Joel were great hosts. They were very communicative prior to our arrival, and while we were there. Their home is lovely and exactly as described. We felt at home during our stay and were able to use all common areas. It's in a perfect area for exploring, good food/beer and public transportation. It was a wonderful place to stay while on vacation in Chicago.
Joel and Laura were the best hosts we have ever experienced. When we entered we were stunned by the original atmosphere of the house. We felt like home from the very beginning. Being able to use the kitchen at any time, we were able to cook our own meals and eat from the fantastic oat meal. Joel and Laura would always have an open ear for any of our queries, whether theater or Chicago related. Thanks to their advice, we were able to immerse ourselves deeply into the Avant-garde theater scene in Chicago, we highly recommend seeing the unique monologues of enSolo, that Joel and Laura have brought into life.
People will feel extraordinaly safe in this house, since it is secured by one of the latest technology alarm systems.
We highly recommend Joel and Laura's residence to anyone coming to Chicago, they will make your stay a unique experience!
As a first time airbnb user I was very nervous at what the outcome would be like, but Joel and Laura were truly a godsend! They were very knowledgable on which places to go to make the most out of our time in the city which was incredibly helpful to us since we weren't familiar with Chicago at all (She even had a well put portfolio on all things to do in Chicago-- bravo!). I loved how their place is only 2 minutes walk from the bus to downtown! Super convenient!! I also drove to Chicago and I was worried about parking, but there are plenty of free parking spaces in front of their apt the entire week I was there! So for drivers out there- one less thing to worry about :-)
Overall, this is definitely a bargain for the price but what I love most about my stay here is how they went out of their way to make sure I was doing OK when I ran into some personal problems. I met them as hosts, but I left them as friends. :-)
Joel was very kind to meet us earlier than the usual check in time which was great as we weren't left stranded in Chicago's December weather. The place is exactly as described, beautiful apartment! We were allowed open access to their place and effectively had our own bathroom which was fantastic. It's only a 2 minute walk to the bus stop which takes you directly to Damen train station and services run very frequently so the location was never an issue. Joel and Laura were very welcoming and even left us a small gift as we were at their place on Christmas Day which was incredibly sweet. Superhost status is well deserved!
Everything is just as announced! The place is great and in a very nice place in Chicago. Very close to lots of shops, if you like shopping!!!
I didn't meet Laura and Joel, but I met their friends who were staying at the house and they were awesome!!! I had a great time and will come back to Laura and Joel's the next time I come to visit!
Laura and Joel were very nice, kind-hearted and accommodating hosts. Their home is so cozy and perfect for the chilly weather. We were free to use the kitchen and laze around the living room anytime. We felt safe in the neighborhood and loved that it was close to Puerto Rican restaurants. The train station and stores were not far of a walk.
I had an awesome stay at Laura and Joel's place! It's a very cozy and clean apartment (the place is exactly like in the pictures by the way) in a quiet neighborhood, just a few minutes walk from great bars and restaurantes. Laura and Joel are great hosts! Aways very respectful and friendly, and willing to give tips of the best places to visit. They threw a great Halloween party while I was there, and I was able to meet very nice people, it was awesome! I definitely recommend
Hi! We're Laura and Joel! Laura is from Miami, Florida and Joel is from Lansing, Michigan. We are both in our late 20s and moved to Chicago to be actors. We are always in a play or auditioning for our next gig. We met in school at Columbia College Chicago and got our degrees in Acting. During the day, Laura is a nanny and personal assistant and Joel is a licensed tour boat captain. At night, we are performing. We are almost always in rehearsal or performing in a play!
We are super friendly, fun and outgoing. We're social butterflies and we aboslutely love hosting! We really enjoy meeting new people and helping them experience our beautiful city. As actors we are really open-minded people and love being around a diverse crowd. Chicago is an exciting city to be an artist! We have a wonderfully supportive and talented community of friends. When we aren't hosting Air Bnb guests, we love to invite friends over to rehearse some theater or join us for a dinner party or BBQ!
We are year long bike riders, we love listening to Radiohead, enjoy cooking yummy vegan meals, and are totally obsessed with Breaking Bad and House of Cards!
