The Space

Our spacious duplex apartment is one of the most unique spaces in Chicago. Before this was an apartment, it was a community center for the neighborhood! The upstairs (where your bedroom is located) is a spacious two- bedroom apartment with an open floor plan. Some features include a dramatic vintage built in mirror, comfy sectional couch, formal dining room and very high ceilings. Your cozy bedroom is at the back of the apartment and comfortably fits two guests. You are located right next to the kitchen, bathroom and washer and dryer. Downstairs is an artist's studio with an open floor plan with a bathroom and an office. We use this space for performances, parties, events and rehearsals.

Guest Access

Private room. Please note your room is on the small side (11'x8') big enough for a full size bed, bench with storage, small closet and nightstand. If you have huge luggage, we have storage outside your room to maximize comfort. This room is an ideal size for 1 or 2 travelers who are out all day and are looking for a cozy, comfy room to sleep in at night.

-Shared living room, kitchen and formal dining room. (Make yourself at home. Since your bedroom is on the small side, you are welcome to use the kitchen table for meals and the comfy couch in the living room to lounge. We might be home when you are - don't mind us!)
-Shared bathroom (Although we do use this bathroom, we also have a bathroom downstairs that we use often to give our guests more privacy)

-Free street parking
-Complimentary coffee, tea and fruit in the morning
-Smoke free environment
-Iron and board, blowdryer
-Fresh linens and towels
-In unit washer and dryer
-Free wifi
-Ask us about Complimentary Water Taxi Boat Rides on the Chicago River! (Available in the warmer season)
-Ask us about discounted theater tickets!

Interaction with Guests

We are super fun, social and flexible hosts who welcome diversity and all kinds of lifestyles. We truly embrace the Air Bnb experience - we love getting to know new people from all over the world! We've been known to hang out with our guests and we are still friends with many. We are also sensitive to guests who like privacy and are looking to keep to themselves. We are happy to be your guide to Chicago and welcome any questions!

Monday through Friday, we both work early mornings till 1pm and we are home between the hours of 1pm and 5pm. We are gone most nights. On weekends we're usually out and about but we've been known to stay in all day. We always make sure to share our schedules with each guest when they stay with us.

When we are home, you will most likely see us in the kitchen (right next to your bedroom) cooking or hanging out in the living room watching some Netflix. Our bedroom is located on the opposite side of the apartment so you will have lots of privacy and space to yourself at night.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is called Humboldt Park which is an up and coming area. Recently named the "WOW District", the real estate is booming and businesses are popping up like wildfire. Artists and young professionals are moving in and opening up art galleries and vintage inspired stores. The main street closest to our house is called "North Ave." There is a grocery store, several vintage shops for men and women, furniture stores, a coffee shop and art galleries.

We also live down the street from 2 of the coolest parks in Chicago. Humboldt Park is the most gorgeous place where you will see a boathouse from the late 1800s, wild life like ducks and geese and a nature preserve. It is one of our favorite parts of our neighborhood. We also live down the street from the 606, an elevated park that used to be a railroad! It's a super rad park that you can walk, bike or run east or west that has entrances and exits throughout.

We welcome guests who are open to staying in an urban environment. Our neighborhood is one of the most racially diverse in the city offering a mixture of different languages, foods and cultures. You WILL see trash on the street. During the day you will hear lots of city noises: dogs barking, kids playing. However at night, it is very quiet.

Our neighborhood is ideal for the traveler with an artistic sensibility who loves second hand shopping, small businesses and hidden gems. A traveler who wants to see a side of Chicago most people don't see if they stay downtown. A traveler who is totally cool staying 15 minutes away from the action instead of right in the middle of it.

Want to visit museums, Willis Tower, John Hancock, Millenium Park? Our neighborhood has the blue line train which takes you straight downtown. This train is available 24 hours a day. For instance, we both work downtown and it takes us 25 minutes via train, 15 minutes via uber, 15 -25 minutes via bike.

15 minute walk or 5 minute Bus Ride/Uber to Wicker Park (where Damen, North Ave. and Milwaukee intersect.) Wicker park is great for strolling - lots of high end boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants, second hand shops, vintage stores, record stores and some chains like Nike. Night life in Wicker Park is awesome - lots of bars to watch sports, go dancing or have a hand crafted cocktail.

Logan Square has become "the" place to hang out at night. There is a strip of bars on Milwaukee that are super fun - one of our favorites is Emporium, an arcade bar with live DJs, pool tables, air hockey and old school video games.

*Our good friend, Van Ferdinand, who married us, stays with us a couple days a week downstairs. He is a musician and wears tye dye everyday. He is the most charismatic person you will ever meet.

Hi! We're Laura and Joel! Laura is from Miami, Florida and Joel is from Lansing, Michigan. We are both in our late 20s and moved to Chicago to be actors. We are always in a play or auditioning for our next gig. We met in school at Columbia College Chicago and got our degrees in Acting. We got married in September, 2015.

During early mornings to afternoons Laura is an executive assistant for a recruitment firm and Joel is a licensed tour boat captain. At night, we are performing. We are almost always in rehearsal or performing in a play!

We are super friendly, fun and outgoing. We're social butterflies and we absolutely love hosting! We really enjoy meeting new people and helping them experience our beautiful city. As actors we are really open-minded people and love being around a diverse crowd. Chicago is an exciting city to be an artist! We have a wonderfully supportive and talented community of friends. When we aren't hosting Air Bnb guests, we love to invite friends over to rehearse some theater or join us for a dinner party or BBQ!

We are year long bike riders, we love listening to Radiohead, we enjoy cooking yummy vegan meals, and we are totally obsessed with Breaking Bad and House of Cards!
