Mary was great, she communicated clearly and early how to access her house. The house was very cute. It had everything we needed, and very nicely appointed and updated. Was in a very quiet little neighborhood, even though close to Main streets for easy access to Dartmouth or to Halifax shopping center. Beds were comfy, beautiful backyard too, lots of plants hedges gay privacy. It was a perfect little place for us to spend the weekend
My parents, my sister and I had a mini family reunion in this lovely house. We really enjoyed our stay here. The location is on a quiet street with parking and is very central. If you don't have a car, don't worry, there are lots of buses on Connaught Ave and Chebucto, two nearby busy roads.
The house is indeed like another reviewer mentioned, the tardis. It open up inside to be a very decent sized place. The kitchen and living room are open plan and make for a very nice space for family to hang out. I wish we'd stayed longer as we didn't get to enjoy the garden as much as we would have liked. I personally think the best room in the house is the master bedroom. It has beautiful windows looking out to the back garden and we would just open the windows a little and listen to all the bird song. Loved it!
We called the delightful blue house the 'Tardis'. It looks small from the outside but inside its actually very spacious. The interior is beautifully laid out and the kitchen is just a dream! Every detail in the house has been carefully thought out and there are ample supplies of all you could possibly need, from kitchen to bedroom to bathroom. On top of all that, the house was spotless.
We arrived very late at night to find that Mary had left us a bottle of wine and a veggie tray and pastries; most welcome after sitting on a plane for over 8 hours.
This was our first experience with a vacation rental but definitely won't be our last. Mary's lovely house has set the bar high.
Thank you Mary for allowing us to stay in your house. We were 6 adults and 2 children and not once did we trip over one another or find the house too small.
It was simply wonderful.
We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable place in Halifax. Mary was very warm and hospitable. Her home is lovely - spacious and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed making delicious meals in her modern kitchen and slept soundly in the comfortable beds. We appreciated being well situated for exploring Halifax and close to major highways for day trips to the valley and south shore. Mary's home will definitely be our place to stay whenever we visit family in Halifax.
My husband and I loved our stay at Mary's cottage. She was always easy to communicate with and everything was as expected, or better. We love to cook and were able to host two friends for dinner. The kitchen had all the utensils and cookware we needed. Great neighbourhood. I would definitely stay again if fortunate enough to return to Halifax.
We very much enjoyed our stay in the Urban Cottage. The cozy cottage was clean, quiet, conveniently located, tastefully decorated, well appointed and comfortable. We had the option of cooking our meals in a nice kitchen or taking a short walk to some great restaurants. Our host, Mary, pays a lot of attention to small details, making it feel like a home away from home, which was very much appreciated. We would recommend your cottage with reservation and would stay there again in a heart beat. Thanks for being such a wonderful host. Best regards, Mike and Karen
This house in the west end of Halifax was a delight to stay in. Mary had everything ready for us, even a bottle of wine. The place was completely clean and very comfortable. The neighbourhood was quiet and safe. The house was in a central location for our purposes - groceries, downtown, west end malls, bayers lake, and the highway. It's not downtown and you'd need a car if you want to get around from this area. We loved staying here and would recommend it to anyone. We had 2 little children with us and it was perfect for them too (just bring your own high chair/play pen/potty). Mary was also in contact with us a few times even though she was away, and her sister was just around the corner if we needed her. Perfect stay and perfect host.
About the Host, Mary
I am retired from the government and recently bought a charming home for rental in the west end of the city. The house has been totally renovated and newly furnished. I enjoy the charm of the house, lovingly called my Urban Cottage. I love the privacy of the backyard, which has beautiful flowering shrubs in the summer and a pergola complete with Wisteria. You don't feel you are in the city yet only a short drive to downtown. A great place for walking.
