Beautiful area

This home is in a scenic location.
Some info has been automatically translated.
Bolara 60 is a traditional Istrian stone farmhouse near the medieval hilltop town of Grožnjan. The Kućica (cottage) is a self-contained, fully furnished house with its own kitchen and terrace. It's next door to our home and small guesthouse (the Kuća), and near a farm where our neighbours make olive oil and wine, but otherwise there are no houses around. It's very green and peaceful here, with views into the Mirna valley, and deer, birds and butterflies all around.

The space
The Kućica (cottage) is its own self-contained, semi-detached house. It's in a beautiful old stone building (about 250 years old), abandoned for about 30 years but now fully restored and furnished with vintage pieces. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and free-standing bath, and one which can have either two single beds or one superking - let us know which you'd like.

The cottage is self-catering, but we can provide you with breakfast baskets (including homemade sourdough bread, granola, yoghurt and jam, and eggs from our chickens), and when the main guesthouse is open (mid May to early November) we also offer snack boards, a drinks list, full breafasts and convivial three-course dinners. Our food is based on our own vegetable garden and local producers, and is therefore highly seasonal and vegetable-forward. Please book meals at least 2 days in advance.

Bolara is a short drive or a scenic walk from Grožnjan (with its famous summer jazz festival), and close to Motovun and other beautiful hilltop villages. We are surrounded by nature, olive groves and vineyards, and are only a 20 minute drive from the seaside.

We take our environmental impact seriously: with thick old stone walls and traditional shutters, the house doesn't need air-conditioning, and the heating and hot water come from solar panels and wood from the local forest. We use eco-friendly cleaning products, dry our laundry in the sun, save rainwater for the vegetable garden and avoid both single-use plastic and food waste.

Guest access
The Kućica has its own covered terrace with table, grill and sink. It faces on to the spacious garden, meadows, the forest and our neighbours' farm. There are lots of places to explore, and walking routes to follow, or simply sit and soak up the atmosphere.

Other things to note
You can book meals with us while you're here: During the main season (usually mid May to early November) we offer dinners on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, and breakfasts every morning. Please ask us for information. Meals must be booked at least 2 days in advance.
We have a travel cot available on request.
Smoking is not allowed in the house.
The rate is cheaper for longer stays :-)

Neighborhood highlights

Bolara is a tiny hamlet surrounded by green hills, olive groves and meadows. The neighbours make fantastic olive oil which we highly recommend! You can walk to Grožnjan (very pretty medieval hilltop town with a famous jazz festival) in less than an hour, and it's great for cycling as we're near the Parenzana trail. Within about 20 minutes drive you can go inland to the famously picturesque Motovun, to the seaside at Novigrad, north to the wineries around Buje and Momjan, and also reach a good selection of excellent village restaurants.
