Great check-in experience
100% of recent guests gave the check-in process a 5-star rating.
Very unique wilderness retreat house set on a private conservation estate of 320 acres with its own creek and permanent waterholes. The house is an elevated tropical design with 100% off grid solar power.
Advice : Regular business is suspended 14/11/19 to March 2020 due to the wet season. Bookings for environmental special interests and intrepid travelers from afar are taken if accepting of seasonal constraints..

The space
This is not your average house or your average place. The house is a comfortable house which was relocated from Darwin and renovated on site. It is set in fenced natural bush conservation block (approx 1.5km x 1km) and blends into the landscape. The house has a very small environmental footprint, it creates its own power from solar and its water from rain and a sustainable bore. The house itself was relocated intact, re-use and recycle!

The solar power system provides enough energy to provide all ordinary needs and to air condition two bedrooms overnight as well as the living areas throughout the day and evening (if used as directed!).

The creek on the property is an exciting place for birdwatchers and has many beautiful views. There are several permanent waterholes in the creek, up to 50 metres or so across. They are home to freshwater crocodiles and occasionally saltwater crocodiles, they are not for swimming!

For the active, there are made tracks to help guide bushwalking, birdwatching and exploring. If you want to enjoy the nature in the comfort of aircon then that's OK too.

Guest access
Guests have the whole house to themselves while they stay. You can wander any of the 8km of walk tracks and may walk or drive the 5km of boundary firebreak track. Guests are not to go near the maintenance shed for safety reasons, and only drive where allowed. If you are inclined to leave the walk tracks please request first as it is easy to get (very) lost off the track!

Other things to note
Some things to consider to avoid disappointment.
- It is not easy to pop down to the shop, organise your food and supplies carefully or ask us for help.
- The power system is designed with sensible use of the air conditioners and appliances in mind. If you attempt to turn a room into an igloo the system will protect itself by shutting down non-essential power and it won't return until the sun is well up the next day.

Location

Blackmore, Northern Territory, Australia

The neighborhood is what is generally called 'the outback', but there is a small shop, fuel and pub approx 5km away. The pub does good Aussie pub meals and lunches at a fair price. A good safe fishing spot is about 4 km away.

We are near the Territory Wildlife Park and Berry Springs and about half way between Darwin and Wangi Falls in Litchfield National Park.

We are a couple in our mid-40's from Darwin. We like the relaxed lifestyle of Darwin and going to new places and see how different people live. Lisa works at Darwin's famous Deckchair cinema, Phil is learning to speak Mandarin but has a long way before he can catch up to Lisa. We are both quite well travelled but very new to Airbnb!
