The Space

This is the SoBro Guest House Located in the South Bronx aka SoBro, New York, a hustling & bustling trendy and hip neighborhood. Just search SoBro Bronx, NY and you will see what the area has to offer. We are walking distance (1 Block) to the Antique District which boasts an assortment of Cafes, Lounges, Bars, Art Galleries and Antique shops. Alexander's Bar on Alexander Ave, The Piano Factory, Bruckner Bar and Grill, DJ EMBE just to name a few. You can walk to Manhattan over the Willis Ave Bridge which is located on the corner. Or jump on the # 6 Train and you are only one stop away from the City of NY! The # 6 train is located approximately 4 blocks away or a 5 minute walk. Yankee Stadium is about a half hour walk or 10 minute train ride. And if you don't feel like going to NYC you have lots of shopping right here in the neighborhood. The Guest House is easily accessible from JFK, Newark, and La Guardia Airports via the Metro so you do not have to waste money on taking a taxi.

We would advise that only the adventurous and more open minded stay here. This is not the Marriot or a central park west local, although we are very close. The neighborhood is considered very safe. It is jumping and unbelievably vibrant and once you step outside the Guest House you will be living amongst real New Yorker's... not tourists. This may be enticing to some but scary to others... so take it for what its worth. Highly recommend if you are looking for a true New York experience! Dont take our word for it... Just read the reviews and see for yourself!

The building itself is very safe and secure. Ray lives on premise and can deal with any issues should they arise. The room is private with your own lock and key. Fresh bed linens and towels are provided. Share 2 full baths and basic cooking facilities with the other guests. We have long term international students and tourists staying with us from all over the world. The room has a full size bed and is located on the 3rd Floor of a renovated Mott Haven Brownstone. There is a mini-fridge and 32" Plasma TV located inside the room. But your in New York... how much time do you plan to spend inside??

***Free WiFi is included***

***International Students and tourists looking for long term stays of 30 days or longer are welcome to stay with us.***

  • I enjoyed my stay here. The location is very convenient and only two stops from the edge of manhattan. It takes about 40mins to get downtown with the train. The place is very clean and it always smells nice in the bathroom. Ray is also very helpful and a good host. I would stay again!

  • I think that overall it was a great stay, my boyfriend and I got everything we needed and seriously for the price you can't complain much. If have to say one bad thing though it would be that it's pretty gross to have only one towel for the whole stay (which was 10 days). No need to change it every day but still ...

Otherwise the neighborhood was a little bit scary to me at first but then you realize that it's pretty quiet, there's mostly families and people just mind their own stuff so they don't even care about you lol.

I would say that it's a little bit more than 20 minutes to get to manhattan but that didn't bother me much.

Ok.. there's maybe other few things that I'd like to "complain" about but then I think, what for ? Even in the finest hotels there's always this little thing to complain about so why go on details ? Yes you get what you pay for and yes you can have a nice stay there, but just, lower your expectations.

  • I would like to thank Ray for the great stay we had at your guesthouse. Very quiet and did not feel threatened at any time by being in the Bronx, on the contrary! I felt like a New Yorker!

The guest is clean and has a nice warm bath, in 25 minutes you're in the subway times square, and if you are a fresher who is afraid of the Bronx, stay in Times Square NY and meet the tourists or stay in and meet Sobro NY of the new Yorkers! Thank you once again for peace I had in Sobro!

Gostaria de agradecer ao Ray pela excelente estadia que tive em sua guesthouse. Muito tranquilo e não me senti ameaçado em momento algum pelo fato de estar no Bronx, pelo contrario! Me senti um nova-yorkino!!

  • Second time staying at SoBro. The place is exactly as shown in the pictures. Bathrooms and kitchen are kept immaculate by Ray. Good WiFi connection. On this stay I asked for a room facing the back to avoid the noise from the Major Deegan Expressway that the rooms facing the street encounter. It was a good choice since this room was much quieter than in my previous stay. The one disadvantage of this particular room was that it was relatively small and there was no chest of drawers or table - just a comfortable bed, nightstand, refrigerator, and clothes rack. But I travel light so it was not really a problem. Other guests were considerate of others - no slamming doors or loud talking. Two bathrooms with showers and two kitchens on the third floor. The bathroom on the second floor has a bathtub/shower. SoBro is 4 1/2 blocks from the nearest subway stop - 3rd Ave/138th St. When exiting that stop go one block east to Willis Avenue and then three blocks south on Willis Avenue until you get to the Mobil station. Turn left a half block to get to SoBro. It's 20 minutes to Grand Central - take the 6 to 125th street and then an express 4 or 5 to Grand Central. Great place to stay at a good price.

  • Ray was a great host, the room was clean and very cheap. The next supermarket or Metro station is not far away. The metro took 20 minutes to get to the Grand Central Station.

  • My experience at SoBro was pretty awesome! Ray was a great host and I'd be happy to stay here again. The neighborhood is pretty safe, didn't have any problems here. In fact, Manhattan had more to worry about than the South Bronx. Overall, clean room..I believe Greg upgraded our room to the studio which was really nice! The traffic outside is loud at night, but after a long day filled with walking, you should fall right asleep! Thank you guys for making my trip to NYC a positive one!
