Staying at Mayumi's house was such a wonderful experience. We talked a lot while I stayed, shared a lot of thoughts , experienced and ideas. It was about 5 hours trip by train from Chitose international airport to Kushiro station. Since her house is far from the station(well...of course! Because her house is actually in the Akan national park! Dah!) she gives Driving service for the guests. I used the service and her husband came to pick me up at Kushiro sta, we had an hour and half drive to the house which was such a great time to ask and hear about the area from him. I so much enjoyed great Hot spring time at night. They had this great Hot spring place near their house. She also took me for crane watching, which was on the way to Kushiro station. I would love to come back in warm season to explore more for Akan River and such a great nature surroundings.
It was great to get a ride from Mayumi and her husband from Abashiri to Lake Akan. After dropping my bags at her place she dropped me off in the town to look at the ice fishing and snowmobiling. She picked me up to bring me home for a delicious dinner. At night we saw a short but delightful firework show on the frozen lake and went to an onsen to enjoy a hot bath. The next day they drove me to see cranes at a bird center then on to Kushiro Airport for my flight. I had a great experience and recommend Mayumi positively.
Mayumi is a fabulous host! Friendly, helpful and attentive, she provided breakfast, recommended places to visit, picked me up from and dropped me to Kushiro station, drove me to see the cranes in three different locations and provided everything else I needed for a more than comfortable stay. The dinners she made where delicious, resturant quality. I am so grateful for her hospitality and I'd highly recommend it.
We spent two weeks with Mayumi and Nakagi. We felt like part of a Japanese family, and learned a lot about Japanese culture.
Mayumi and Nakagi always anticipated our needs, and were always ready to please.
Mayumi served us delightful home-cooked meals every-night.
They took us to a simple local onsen every night, we loved the nightly routine, we miss it.
They provided a driving service, up to 80km. They picked us up at Kushiro airport, and dropped us off at Memanbetsu airport. We had fun day trips to several places to see Japanese cranes (we visted in Winter), and several onsen, including rustic Nonako onsen near Mt. Meakan.
Akan village has a many nice places to visit (Ainu village, Eco museum), lots of hotels with Onsen (some on rooftops), lots of shops, cafes, restaurants.
Tremendous trip and amazing view under Mayumi and her husband's great hospitality. Mayumi pick us up since the first second when we arrived in JR Mashu station which surprise us. And the food she made worth trying if you have chance to been in Akan lake. Highly recommend Mayumi's house if you decide to visit Kushiro, definitely lots of fabulous memories will be recorded. Thanks so much for Mayumi and her husband's guide for the tour.
I had an amazing time in Akanko thanks to Mayumi and her husband ! They both are wonderful hosts and made me feel part of the family. So relax and easy going. We enjoy each other company. They were not short of ideas to make my stay an unforgotable one.... including fly-fishing ! Also, the offer for dinner was hard to resist. Mayumi is a wonderful cook ! The location is perfect and the room with a view !!! I brought back lovely memories and I can honestly say that my trip to Hokkaido would have not been the same without such hospitality ! Thanks again !
Our stay with Mayumi was wonderful. She and her husband welcomed us and made sure we had everything we needed. Mayumi provided us with great advice on what to see around Lake Akan. The room was very comfortable, both on the bed and the futon. Our highlights were a home cooked meal with Mayumi and a visit with them to the onsen. We would highly recommend staying here and making the effort to visit Akan.
