Our host made us feel extremely welcome & went out of her way to try & converse with us in English. The meals she provided were delicious & she acted as an excellent tour guide showing us all the interesting sights around Akan.
I would highly recommend staying with Mayumi
The house was really easy to find. We were welcomed in a friendly manner. Mayumi made us feel at home and offered to take us to a hot spring / swimming pool on the roof of a hotel. The room was really cozy with a beautiful view of the surrounding forest. Breakfast was great and Mr. Nakamura made barista-quality coffee. Highly recommend staying here, we would have loved to stay longer!
My husband and I stayed with Mayumi for 2 nights. It was our first Airbnb experience and we will definately be using it again. She is a gracious and welcoming host. We arrived in a state of panic after realizing that we'd left our passports and liciences in safe of our last hotel...a 5 hour drive back... She rang the hotel for us and arranged delivery to her house by express post. We received it the next day. Immediate relief!!!
Mayumi cooked us a wonderful meal one night and could reccomend good restaurants for the other night. Great having this local knowledge...avoiding the tourist traps. She took us fly fishing up the Akan River.. a highlight of our holiday.. all donned up in the waders she lent us. She took us to her Onsen both nights. On a hotel rooftop. Sublime!
All in all a wonderful experience.
We were welcomed in a very friendly way. The lodging was very adequate and comfortable. Breakfast and dinners were well done.
Communication was enjoyable and interesting about their country.
Mayumi is one of the best! She mentioned she used to work in hospitality and it shows in the way she takes care of her home and her guests.
I was planning an overnight backpacking near Lake Akan and was overwhelmed with all the logistics and couldn't ask for a better host.
For a small fee (less expensive than buses/taxi especially if you travel with another person) she picked us up from the train station (2hours away), dropped us off at the trailhead, picked us up the following day, and treated me delicious home-cooked meals. Her immaculate house is situated in a quiet lot facing a beautiful wooded forest. I really enjoyed talking to Mayumi and her husband about fly fishing.
Akan Kohan is an excellent home base to visit the area. I highly recommend Mayumi to other travelers!
We had a touch of trouble trying to find Mayumi's house on our GPS, but luckily the town is small enough that the tourist centre knows where she lives! Mayumi was hospitable and offered to let us use her bicycles, even inviting us to join them at their club for onsen. Didn't realise it was a single bed but she had spare futons so it all worked out
I highly recommend Mayumi's warm and hospitable home if u r heading to Akan. It was a delightful home-away-from-home experience. I enjoy the many conversations we had, nightly onsen trips, sitting at the outdoor patio (when it wasn't raining) and of course the scenic rivers where I tried my hand at fishing. Mayumi and her husband r the perfect hosts - dedicating their time to their guests. I am also highly appreciative of their patience in teaching me fly fishing techniques especially to a noob. I look forward to returning again.
