About this listing
We call it 'l'île verte' (the green island) for its atmosphere, the green kitchen and bathroom tiles. With a very confortable bed , to the ground floorof our 50's house, a few minutes away from the gorgeous calanques, the old harbor and it's cafés.
The apartment is located a the main floor of a one storage house. We live upstairs, with our two girls. The place is a bit away from the street, surrounded by a small southern garden that gives it its character.
The kitchen has been redecorated last sumer to be closer to our 50's house atmosphere. Feel like cooking or just warm up some take aways, it's all there. We integrated a wash machine for those who just stay with us in between other trips, or just feel like dressing with the good smell from the open drying space in the garden.
The bedroom is confortable and takes its light from a window to the south: great for those naps in the afternoon. Its got is little dressing to put your stuff and a cute bathroom, revamped with nice green tiles picked to match the La Ciotat's soft atmosphere.
A cute little terrace on the apartment entrance side. Very cosy for a coffee, or break feast in the morning sun. There is another table and chairs under the pine tree, on the side of the house where you'll also find the drying cables.
Interaction with Guests
We love to share with our guests, be it a moment or a glass of vince, depending on everybody's availability. Isa splits her time between her craft shop in the garden's back, et her boutique on the harbor ... and the girl's activities and hers and the house and... (yes, yes, she can)
Marc commute on a more classical way between Marseille et the house during the week.
You'll always get to see one or the other... but you'll never know how long for :-)
The whole place is located at walking distance from pretty much everything people like La Ciotat for. The calanques are 5 (Figuerolle) or 10 (Mugel and its gorgeous park) minutes away by foot. the bread and croissants full boulangerie is up the street, little grocery store down the house, movie theater 7 minutes.
The 'old harbor' stands (floats?) 4 minutes down the street: close enough to just drop in the evening market from july to august, or every sunday morning... but far enough to be able to escape the crowd.
Cars park in the neighborhood free of charge. Buses go from the old harbor straight to Marseille (look it up, it's worth being there at least a few hours) in an hour or so, or will take you to the train station in 15 minutes.
Boats will take you to the 'green island', the island facing La Ciotat with it's pedestrians only paths, and it's unique restaurant on the shore.
By train, step down at La Ciotat train station and take the 20 ' bus ride bus (bus#10 or #40 or #200 on sundays and national days) to the terminus, 'la Gare routiere'. Quick hop to the 'office du tourisme' right there and then take the 10 min walk to the house. Basically, keep the harbour on your left until you reach the 'best western hotel'. Past the hotl take the narrow strret on your right (rue lapérouse) and follow it all the way up. When you're at the end of that street, look up, next to the small grocery store stands our house.
By car : Your car can be (usually) easily parked in the neighborhood free of charge.
By Bus : there'a bus going from Marseille to La Ciotat (#69). It'll take you directly to the 'gare routiere' in La Ciotat. Quick hop to the 'office du tourisme' right there and then take the 10 min walk to the house. Basically, keep the harbour on your left until you reach the 'best western hotel'. Past the hotel take the narrow street on your right (rue fernand Lapérouse) and follow it all the way up. When you're at the end of that street, look up, next to the small grocery store stands our house, with it's purple door to our garden.
Other Things to Note
You will have to pay on site the moderate local 'stay tax'. The city set it to 50 centsper person and per day. It is an extra cost, yes, but considering the quality of public equipment, we feel it is a reasonnable one. We do not collect it through airbnb payment system since we feel it would no be fair for you to be charged a transaction commission over a tax.
Non smoking apartment, however the petite terrace at the entrance of the apartment is a nice place to drink a coffee and smoke outside.
Point of attention for our guests:
The apartment is one of three standing at the main floor of our house and we live upstair. Therefore, we will see each other, and you will see the other tenants. If your dream is to live an intense life, day and night, according to criteria defined solely with yourself, and if you think that it could prevent others from sleeping or just from living their own dream, then our house is definitely not the right place for that project. :-)
